ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX] Deleting A LoadVars Object From Memory?

Mar 26, 2004

Is it possible to delete a LoadVars object from memory, as well as its contents? Say I load 20k of data into a LoadVars, and I delete the LoadVars Object, does it stop loading variables into memory, and does it delete the memory that it importing?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing SWF From Memory After Deleting From DOM

Sep 29, 2011

I'm having a problem where I load my SWF (Advertisement) into the dom after an event happens in a flash game.  After viewing the ad, the SWF is removed with JavaScript and users continues to play, this continues several times without ever reloading the page.

The problem I am running into is in IE 8 & 9 performance of the game drops and frame rate becomes choppy after several ads are shown.  Each advertisment has a timer built in and my thought is that the ad is not being fully removed from memory hence causing a slowdown.

Is there a way to ensure a full removal of the ad or at least a way to detect within the ad that it is no longer on the page & kill the timer?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Deleting/freeing Memory Of Sound/Audio Files?

Jul 27, 2010

I am trying to create a .dispose method for my Sound files, however it seems I am unable to deallocate/free memory for Sound files, no matter what I do!this doesnt work:

ActionScript Code:
var mySound:MySound= new MySound();
mySound = null;

and neither does this: (the 'delete' dynamic variable was suggested somewhere)

ActionScript Code:
var playerObject:Object = new Object();
playerObject.sound =new MySound();
playerObject.sound = null;
delete playerObject.sound;
playerObject = null;

it seems if there was a reference to the SoundFile in the code, the Memory cannot be re-allocated.however If I am loading an external file, interestingly, this does work:

ActionScript Code:
var mySound:Sound= new Sound(newURLRequest("sound.mp3"));
mySound= null;

it looks like you cannot Free memory of Sound Files that are Loaded from the Library, but you can free it if its external.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Deleting An Object Out Of An Array?

Mar 12, 2010

Actionscript Code:
var gameObjectArray:Array = new Array();var gameTimer:Timer = new Timer(25);gameTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, gameLoop);gameTimer.start();

[code].....

So every 25 milliseconds, a block is being created and it pushed into an array. The for loop cycles through the array and moves the x by 1 for each object in the array. If the x reaches past 300 pixels, then I want to delete the object from the game entirely. The way I'm doing it now yields an error, so what am I doing wrong and what should it look like inside of the "if (i.x > 300)" stuff?

Remove Listeners Before Deleting A Custom Object?

Aug 23, 2011

I load into an empty movieclip (via addChild) a library object (a movieclip of class MyObject that extends the MovieClip class). At some point, from the main I remove this custom movieclip from its parent and I set any reference to null to completely destroy it. The question: what if in the custom movieclip class there are eventListeners? Are them deleted when I destroy the object? Should I write a method to remove them before deleting the object?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Deleting An Object Reference Completely?

Jun 14, 2010

I'm having some trouble with fully deleting object references. My object (a displayObject) has an ENTER_FRAME eventListener with weakReference set to true. It simply traces "hello" every frame. Then in my document class I try to delete it as follows:

Code:
delete(removeChild(obj));

. Despite this, the eventListener keeps on printing "hello". And I don't believe I have any other references to the object lying around. But in case that is true, is it possible to print the number of references of the Object?

Actionscript 3 :: In Flash Does Extending An Object Use More Memory Even If The Object's Methods Aren't Used

Jul 20, 2011

I am creating an object pool to cache some recyclable objects in memory at the outset of my application in order to avoid (as much as possible) the performance issues caused by GC running; if possible I'd like to minimize the memory my object pool reserves, so I'm attempting to pool generic forms of the objects (with no methods) and then casting the generic variants to more specific and complex object types which extend the generic form when I actually want them on the stage.

The trouble is that to do this requires the generic variant class to import/extend MovieClip (because the more complicated objects are themselves MovieClips and make use of DisplayObject methods)-- does simply importing and/or extending a class add to the memory an object takes up when instantiated even if it never uses methods from the inherited class? It makes sense that it would, and some light profiling seems to suggest that it does, but I'm not 100% certain. About how large should an 'empty' MovieClip instance be in bytes?

car.model = 'Accord';

Can I send this object via Loadvars like this:

var send_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();send_lv.carobj = car;
send_lv.sendAndLoad("script goes here", result_lv, "POST");

Data Integration :: Adding Variables To LoadVars Object?

Apr 27, 2007

I have an application that reads a PHP script and populates the Flash applets using the following on frame 1:

[Code]...

A combobox (created with the returned data) is created on frame 61. When a selection is chosen in the combobox I need to add the value returned from the combobox to the variable catvar, add this variable to the LoadVars object and run the script again. It seems to set c.catvar initially but when I use the 'sendAndLoad command the second time c.catvar isn't included. Is it possible to add variables to a LoadVars object created
on frame 1 from frame 61?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Can't Access Variable From Outside Of The LoadVars Object's Scope

Feb 23, 2004

You will find enclosed a ".zip" file in wich there's a ".fla" file, a ".txt" file and 6 ".jpg" images. Frame 1 of the FLA only has a "Preload" class/constructor found on another site and works well. Frame 2 launches the graphic interface construction. The file "externalVar.txt" has one variable "maxVin" with a value of 6.

I would like to know WHY i can't acces this variable from outside of the loadVars object's scope (i would better say from outside of its ".onLoad" methode scope). In fact, when i trace my variable "maxVinNum" from outside of this function, flash player return "undefined". Even if i declare "maxVinNum" on the _root (_root.maxVinNum). For information, at the start of frame 2, i have let an instruction in comment: //var maxVinNum = 6; When we activate this instruction, then the variable is directely declared and everything works well. This test allow us to verify that scripts are not bugged. Here is the script of frame 2, some of you may understand quickly what's wrong :

ActionScript 2.0 :: Access That Array From A Function Using A LoadVars Object Called LoadDVDsText?

Feb 28, 2004

I'm using an onLoad function (importing variables from a text file) and I'm creating arrays within a for loop in the onLoad function.
I'm using something like this:

Code:
this["dvdAry" + i] = this[indexAry[i]].split("##");
So say the first array is called dvdAry0 .

How can I access that Array from a function? Please note the function, the onLoad function and the arrays are all being created on the same timeline.I've tried tracing the array dvdAry0 from the function after the array is created in the onLoad function, but it comes up as undefined. Is the array created on the object that I'm using onLoad on?I'm using a loadVars Object called loadDVDsText.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Object Not Deleted From Memory?

Oct 11, 2009

what I have is:

- listener added with weak refference, therefore it shouldn't keep the GC away

- object set to null

- trace of the object m shows null

- debugger shows the value of m as null

But the "frame" trace still keeps on appearing, so where exactly is that object and how to check for it, how to delete it and kill it. I know that listeners keep objects in the memory, but then how to find them, and at the end of the day also used weakReference=true while assigning it, so that should take care of it. What exactly is going on here?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Memory Management With An Object Pool

Sep 8, 2009

I've been trying to figure out how Flash does its memory management regarding object declarations but haven't found anything that describes declarations themselves. [code]Basically I want a pool of declared variables that get instantiated only when a certain type is set. I'd have logic in other functions that figures out what the type is and then does certain things to it, but for now I just wanted to know what kind of memory management Flash does with something like this. Does it do nothing until I actually instantiate it (= new Object()) or will space be set aside once I simply declare it (someObj:Object)?

Actionscript 3 :: Memory Gain Changing Alpha Value Of An Object?

Dec 30, 2011

for a periodic table tool I'm making, I've incorporated an effect that changes the alpha value whenever I hover over an element (pretty standard). I've noticed a mysterious gain in memory when hovering over my elements; using SYSTEM.TOTAL_MEMORY - there would be about 0.005MB increase in memory usage when I hover over an element, which isn't relinquished when I move my mouse off. However, if I move my mouse back on again, there isn't a second memory gain.

[Code]...

Does anyone know why this memory gain is happening when the alpha value is changed? And curiously why it only happens once? Some extra info: my Element class is a MovieClip, with a couple of TextFields, primitive variables and a MovieClip in it. It has had its mouseChildren property set to false (and buttonMode property set to true).
