i have a dynamically attached movie clip with a dynamic, html enabled text link. This all works fine.. what i want to know is how do i have the link update the content div (a separate div than the one the flash window is in) with a new php script?
I'm writing this post because it seems there is a lack of support and updates regarding Adobe Flash player for the Sony PS3 and also to show that there is a demand for such an update to be made.It appears the BBC is making an effort, even though PS3 users do not have the latest Flash Player, you can still catch up on all missed BBC shows on the new official BBC iPlayer support for the PS3. See the link below.

The current version of Flash Player for the PS3 is outdated (on the latest UK firmware v3.01 at the time of this post) and after spending an hour scouring the internet for news on a forthcoming update, with no success, I've decided to come hear and ask why that is? So why is the Sony PS3 always more than 12 months behind on these updates?
I'm a CS4 developer, working in Flash, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc. I love Adobe products, but I am getting pretty weary of Flash Player updates coming every other day, sometimes every day. I work on several computers, both at work and at home, so the inconvenience of having to stop and go through the update process is multiplied. I know it's not usually a time-consuming process, but still, why so frequent?
It might not be so bad if not for all the other self-updating applications on my systems, not the least of which are the various Windows updates. It's just a little obnoxious.
I have a PHP process that does a bunch of stuff and I want to send feedback to the Flash client that calls it, as the request is being processed. However, since I'm listening for the COMPLETED event, I don't get the feedback until the PHP completes execution (at which time all the buffered messages arrive at once).
I'm wondering if there is a better way to approach this than my current solution...
I have a list of items, I then retrieve another list of items. I need to compare the two lists and come up with a list of items that are existing (for update), a list that are not existing in the new list (for removal) and a list of items that are not existing in the old list (for adding).
Here is what I'm doing now - basically creating a lookup object for testing if an item exists.
I'm using Flash and AS3 to write an app for iOS and for Android and I'm saving XML-data using shared objects. Now it struck me that when I supply an update to the app store and the user updates the app, will the shared objects remain intact or will they be replaced? I'd very much like them to remain as they were.
I'm using the update function of Adobe Media Encoder and see that an update is available. I click on download and install it. Everything works fine and I get the message that the update was installed successfully. But when I start AME again it still shows 4.0.0.374 instead of 4.1.0 - what's wrong? I never had this problem before. I also tried to download and install the update by hand. Same result.especially when I see that the contact form of Adobe's customer support portal is offline.
Suppose all that happens initially in a client swf is a user clicks a hyperlink in a text object of the swf, so this requests a "page" from the server. In response the server just modifies that existing swf in the client browser, by for example (?) invoking public functions of it, and possibly passing in as parameters the name of image or data files which were also downloaded in response to the URL request. The crucial part is that all that can happen initially in the SWF is a URL "page" request. Is this commonly done and if so, how.
I just downloaded the Release and Debugger updates for the Mac CS5 Flash. However, the zip files only contained the Mac projector. Wouldn't I need to update the Windows EXE projectors as well? When I publish dual platform projectors I would like both to be up to date. How do I update the Windows EXE projectors on my CS5 Flash installation on my Mac?
My students have an ongoing keyboarding contest amongst the classes. So I have their keyboarding data in a spreadsheet that gets updated daily. I want to be able to pull the top 3 scores and names to create a type of Leaderboard and load them dynamically each day to my wesbite as an update instead of having to update my site manually each day. Is there a way for me to do this with AS3?
I am using uploadify in a project and I threw a console.log statement in my onProgress callback... It seems to only be executed when starting the upload, and when completing the upload. Even with a very large file upload, that is the behavior I get.The progress bar is based off of Flash sending data, not off of the server-side reporting back what it's received.[code]and then a big long pause while the file is uploading... Then onAllComplete gets hit.I am wondering if this is somehow related to me running my app in development mode on localhost, and if it were hosted on a real server if the result would be different.. But I have no way of knowing that.
I'm trying to get two different apps to communicate through a file. I would like app 1 to append some text to a file, and app 2 to notice, and read the new bytes (not the whole file). There is an event, ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, that is supposed to fire when new data is available on a FileStream, but it only fires when I first open the file. Basically, I would like to leave the FileStream open, listening like a socket on the end of that file for changes.
I have an ArrayCollection we'll call "Items". It is essentially a flat collection of hierarchical data (each item has Parent and Children properties). I want an AdvancedDataGrid to display the data in hierarchical form, so essentially I could just do this and it would display fine:
// Note: RootItems would be an ArrayCollection that is updated so only the // top level items are within (item.Parent == null). var hd:HierarchicalData = new HierarchicalData(model.RootItems);
I use Flash Professional CS5.5 with Gaia FrameWork in my project. movieclips in the project have extended classes and the problem is that when I give new functionality to my classes they doesn't work in an build project. for example function s cann't be found, trace doesn't work and so on. All the old functionality works. When I change class name then it works fine. but then it happens again. I made new project and coped all the content, but still it happens. I event rainstalled flash but nothing works.
I have created a simple method to retrieve XML output from an HTTPService and populate a database from it, but due to the async nature of Flex, the functions go through while its still retrieving data - hence causing the function to return a null value. find code below;
I am using Flex Builder 3, working on a PC. Everything was working as expected throughout my first day of code updates, but on day 2 Flex started behaving badly.The problem started when I removed a component, and then got an error that it couldn't find the specified component in some accompanying AS3 code. No problem, I updated the reference so it wouldn't look for the old missing component (a form item). When I compiled the project in debugger to check my work, it failed when it got to that part, and gave an error that it couldn't find the component I'd removed. However, my code had fixed the problem, and the error was referencing a line of code that wasn't there any more. I proceeded to change the file around greatly, and even resorted to creating a new file, changing the name of it, and then recompiling it. I did a clean compile as well, rebooted my machine, restarted Flex, but every time it gives an error referencing the bit of code that isn't even there any more. It's as if it's loading a cached project each time (both in debugger and run mode).
For reference, here's the error I'm getting: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property Winter Cost not found on views.PopupUsage and there is no default value.Well, the file "PopupUsage.mxml" doesn't even exist any more and is not referenced in my project at all, but it's still being referenced by Flex when I compile the files.What can I do to make Flex move on and look at my code?
I have a ProgressBar in MANUAL mode responding an URLLoader's progress events that seems to get drawn far less frequently than I would like. If I debug the app, I can see many events firing from the URLLoader yet it seems that the ProgressBar is being re-drawn at some random and slow rate.
Now if this was my own code (URLLoader is a black box), I would pause once in a while to let the UI update, say via loop with a timer. I presume that the URLLoader itself is blocking the main thread from processing drawing code. Adding validateNow() and invalidateDisplayList() does not seem to help much.
Now there are many TResources (just a class that can manage its data) being loaded in sequence, but the URLLoader is so greedy that it does not let the UI get updated more than a few times when loading & processing (parsing into XML objects) 50 or so 10KB files. So just counting which files loaded visually does not work either; I'm lucky to get 2-3 screen updates the entire time.
Loading a 700MB file looks much better, but again the progress bar updates are random and slow.
Additionally, I'd like to know if there is any way to influence or even control the rate at which ProgressEvents are fired by the URLLoader class. I have not been able to find at what rate it normally dispatches progress events either; is it at a fixed percentage per file or every x frames or milliseconds?
As these are local files, would I be better off not using the URLLoader class and instead switching to FileStream?
What I want is to have a horizontal menu with all my updates from right to left newest to oldest and have the first say 4 on the screen (or under the mask...?) and when you move to the right it moves right slowly and left does the same but the middle doesn`t move either way (you gotta be like 20px from the end to make it scroll I mean) and suggestions? like this one but this one doesn`t work so hot for me
I have 2 movie clips, one being loaded into a container MC via "loadMovie();"In the main movie there is a variable with no value, in the external movie there are 5 frames, each with a value to update the variable in the main movie.
IE: if on frame 1, global value = 1 / if on frame 2, global value = 2 / etc etc I'm familiar with passing variables INTO an external swf, but am stumped on how to do it the reverse way.
I have a silly question, how do you verify if your install of FMIS needs updating or security patches?I currently have FMIS ver 3.5.3 r824a.How the heck do you even verify if Adobe has a higher version? FMIS page just says FMIS 3.5
Sheesh, can Adobe make anything straight-forward?IT dept where I work says one of their security scans implied - that the FMIS install on one of our servers needs updates, what updates, who knows...
I want to download files from the server side to client side without prompting a window to the user to download when any updates happen at server side.Right now I am using urlstream class but first file is downloading completely rest of the files contents downloading partially.
editCode sample taken from other post. Warning: it's a huuuge chunk o'code.
