is it possible to get an "absolute" X and Y for _root.dropDown1MC.listMC.item?As is stands, I'm placing dropDown2MC on the stage using the following code:
[AS]_root.attachMovie("dropDown2", "dropDown2", 30, {_x:_xmouse, _y:_ymouse});[/AS]
and that gets it on the stage, but it doesn't function as I need it.In a perfect world, I'd like to place dropDown2MC at the X and Y of item, BUT, there is a mask to only show a certain area of listMC (it's how I'm making a scrollable dynamically populated list).So, is there a way to get some sort of absolute value, relative to root or something, of item's X and Y coordinates?

I am trying to remove all absolute references to "_root" from a game I am making. I have tried to avoid this kind of referencing where possible, but there seems to be some situations where I simply cannot make a reference by means of relative paths.

Which returns the mc that the tween was applied to. But using ".obj" only seems to work with Tween objects. Can anyone explain the idea behind using relative paths with objects that trace a data or class type when tracing "this".

I have setup a flash MovieClip with a scrollpane in it, and another MovieClip that run's a FOR loop to create a list of buttons dynamically. I have the script pull the dynamic MovieClip and load it as a source to the scrollPane but the scrollbars are not appearing. To make sure that the scrollpane was working, I added an event listener to the scrollpane that when I clicked it it will run scrollPane.invalidate() and the scrollbars will pop on.
So here's my problem/question: If I'm dynamically adding a listMC to this scrollPaneMC, how do I get listMC to throw the invalidate() to the parent scrollPaneMC? Here's another way to look at it: Root adds a child scrollPaneMC. ScrollPaneMC uses listMC as a source from the library. listMC run's its FOR loop and dynamically creates a list and appears in the scrollPaneMC, but no scrollbars.

In the code below i want to change the _root.broj and _root.logo variables inside the function which returns values from .php file. Inside the function everything works fine and all values are correct but when i trace var broj outside the function it's still 0.

I just recently began migrating from AS2 to AS3, and I have of course realized that I can no longer move the "_root" by changing the _x and _y positions of the _root (which no longer exists in AS3). How can I do this in AS3 (specifying _x, _y, _z possibly of the "_root")?

I'm creating a mobile app in which I need to show a calendar with months at the top. The months are part of a component that extends from SkinnableDataContainer (and has some custom scrolling/behaviour - which is why I did'nt use a spark list). I need the months to be shown as a 'trapezium' shaped tab and so I'm using a png image as a mask in the item renderer for the component.
When the mask is not applied, it all works well - the months render, the list/data container selection works when I click on a month and so on.When the mask is applied, it renders well, scrolling and everything else seems to work well - but when I click on a month, nothing happens visually. And from the trace statements in my code, it appears list item selection is not changing. Looks like mouse clicks are not working.

I have used states in my application.The thing is I have made the first item in my list to be selected. so I gave like this,
if(itemIndex == 0)
this.currentState="selected";
this works fine.The problem is when other item is selected the first item does not change its state,it remains in the selected state until its clicked.My code looks like this,

I want to be able to select an item from my list component and fire a function directly related to selecting that item. list is called "tidlist" function is "selecttid(n)" the "n" needs to be replaced with the index number... so if run my swf and the list component displays my items... when i select one (the third one for example)... i want to fire "selectTid(3)".... cant seem to grasp.

I have a problem that's driving me nuts. A real catch 22 it seems. I have a tutorial for creating a real cool mp3 player. The player shares url data ( allows others to embed the player among other things) so the addressing must be absolute. It works fine on my pc when I run from my local wamp server. Al my addresses are preceded with http://localhost. If I leave http://localhost in the url's it won't run on the server that I upload to and if I use the url from the server it won't compile. The addresses are in an xml file whiched is referenced in a class called PlayerDocumant the reference also uses an absolute address to reference the xml file.

Is there any way to rotate a 3D object in AS3 using absolute axes rather than the x, y and z axes of the object itself?For instance, increasing the value of rotationZ will make a movieclip rotate clockwise, but if the movieclip is first rotated 180 degrees around its y axis, increasing rotationZ will now rotate the movieclip counter-clockwise instead. Add rotation along the x axis, and things get really complicated.In my code, I simply want to flip a cube (consisting of four movieclip faces) 90 degrees around the default x and z axes, no matter what its current values of rotationX, rotationY and rotationZ are. My naive initial assumption was that it is only a matter of increasing rotationZ with 90 degrees to flip the cube left, or decrease rotationX to flip the cube "into" the screen

I looked around, and the latest reference I saw was from 2008 stating that the standard FileReference browser does not support retrieving the user's file's absolute local path unless it's an AIR app, and indeed there's nothing in the docs suggesting otherwise. The reasoning behind this is apparently some misguided security concern... I get it's not a great idea to let any Flash app know your directory structure, but if the user actually grants your app a file, I think it doesn't invalidate the security model to know just that file's absolute path.
I'm wondering if the state of things has changed at all with Flex 4 and there's a method of getting the local filename of anything. I need it because I'm making an application that when distributed runs locally in 99% of cases, so doing a full file upload just to save it somewhere else on the local machine seems silly. (Plus the standard file uploading method doesn't support SOAP, which is what I'm using for all my other services...)

I have been working on Flash AS3 project. I am designing a 3D system. Consider a MovieClip A which is at (0,0,0). A contains B which is at (10,10,10). If I rotate A by 10 degrees then the position of B with respect to A remains the same but position of B with respect to the system changes. To find Global X and Y of B, we have the function localToGlobal but it does not tell anything about the Z property. How to find that?

i was wondering if there is a method to get the width of an object that is a child of a child of a child ....n times, and is scaled.
the width im interested is the actual width of the object on the stage, not relative to its parent.
e.g. like there is a function "local to global" for objects coordinates
i know i can get objects actual width if i multiply its width * scaleX or scaleY
but does the scaleX and scaleY refer to absolute scaling or scaling relative to objects parent?

My stage contains an object that contains a child. The child sees it's x and y position in relation to it's parent, so when the object moves, the coordinates remain the same.
