ActionScript 2.0 :: Preload In Background And Replace The Current MC?

I want to preload external swfs into my main movie. The most common approach to this is to load the swf into a targetmc or a specific level. This makes the current info that you can see in the targetmc to be replaced by the new swf. While the new swf is loading it leaves the targetmc blank or is replaced by a preloader. The user expericence gets interrupted in my opinion.
Now, I want a preloader that first loads the new swf and then, only then, replaces the current info in the targetmc. This makes it possible to view the current info until the new swf is fully loaded. That way you have something to do while waiting. You should be able to see a preloader bar placed, say, at the lower end of the page.

i cannot seem to find any tutorial around this... when i click the next button, a new photo begins preloading (showing a loadbar or similar) *WHILE* the current photo is still in sight... after loading is complete loadbar and current photo fade out and the new photo fades-in in glorious color... something like the one used in [URL]

I'm looking at making some PHP Flash shortly to replace my current website, http://www.mathsnotes.com. I was thinking about allowing users to download a standalone version, i.e. the SWF file or an EXE file. My question is: Will the PHP still work, or is it parsed by another entity, e.g. the users browser?
Also, I wanted to add a live news feed - So is it possible to have flash check every frame ( like a _root.onEnterFrame() = Fucntion{ ... ) the mysql database to look for anything with a timestamp less than say, 5mins, and then display it? Or does PHP require a user to do something like "Update News"?

have a swf file calling an xml file w/ several images. I want the first image to load in the swf, then the additional images in the xml file to load invisibly in the cache while the viewer looks at the first image.he point is to create a seamless flow through a gallery, rather than having each iamge preload.

I'm having some real trouble getting .replace to actually replace something. Here's my code...

I can trace both newFiles[i] and keywords[i][whatever], but the replace doesn't replace anything. The regex is valid as well. I'm using regexr to test it, and it works perfectly there... but will not for me and I don't know why.

I've got a strange situation where I'm replacing the text in a string that I've taken from an XML, but the .replace function for the string keeps failing. I've tried running the example given on the Adobe site, so I know the value I'm trying to replace ("%20") isn't at fault - it's something about the string I have! I've included the code below, but it seems correct. Is there a particular tip I should know when taking XML values into AS3? I'm putting them in strings for this project.

As the title already states i have a (big) problem importing a PNG in a Flex 4 application.Created a PNG file in Photoshop with transparent background. I've designed a Flash site in CS3 using Action Script 2.0 that has a main flash movie sorta floating in space over a gradient background. I want the gradient background to re-size with the browser, so I thought that the easiest way to do this would be to delete the gradient background in Flash and instead recreate the background in Dreamweaver using the repeat background option and then make the Flash movie's background transparent. (I hope I'm making some amount of sense here).
I've found a few tutorials on how to do this, but so far I just get a white background instead of transparent. I've tried choosing "Transparent - Windowless" under Window Mode on the HTML tab in Publish Settings. And I've tried selecting the movie from within DW and clicking the parameter button and adding a "wmode" parameter with "transparent" as its value.

trying to print a movieclip with a white backgroundwhile keeping the stage background black.The movieclip,printResults_mc has a white rectangle in the bottom layer, 850pixels x 1100 pixels. The following function scales printResults_mcto the printers printable area but because isimpossible to predict the aspect ratio of the printable area someblack background always leaks out. I have converted a large background image (much larger than the stage) into a Movie Clip. I did this so I can make it scroll as the player traverses to the edge of the scene.This appears to make the player free to roam the entire background image.I have a tree symbol with a class attached to it that blocks player movement.Here is my problem:
When I drag and drop instances of the tree symbol onto the background, the trees are stationary and do not scroll with the background.I do not want to have to implement code to make the trees scroll when the background does.I was wondering if there was a way to simply attach the trees to the background so that if the background moves, the trees move with it and appear to be part of the background as if they were drawn into it.It is convenient for me to be able to drag and drop as many trees as i need to block certain routes on the background from the player.I tried writing code to make the trees move but it was only working for the very last tree that I added to the scene.

I really don't know much about flash or swf files but in updating my portfolio I came across Polaroid gallery. I have managed to update the background jpeg with my own picture and remove the fade effect. However in the original program the background was tileable so when seen in a full screen browser looked fine. As my picture is not tileable I would like to know if it is possible to scale the background or the whole swf object without tiling the background.

I am relatively new to Flash CS3 and i have been learning Action-script 3 over the past week. I have come quite a long way and i have made a site in flash but i just have a question.I have been using an image as my background and i am happy with the way flash automatically scales all the objects in my file but the background image does not scale. Is there a way to do this? I have found out things online which show me how to add auto-resizing to the background but this knocks off the flash auto scaling/resizing for everything else.

I have a series of background MCs, all different coloured gradients (pretty!), and a series of corresponding buttons elsewhere on the stage. On a press of each button I would like the corresponding background MC to come to the top of the pile of backgrounds, then fade in above the previous background. The background that was previously on top, needs to stay next-to-top.If the corresponding background is already at the top of the pile, then nothing needs to happen.
At the moment I am using swapDepths(1) which brings the target to the top no problem, but it may also send the previous top layer MC way down the pile.This is what I'm doing at the moment:

I have a site with several images on it. there is a main image with buttons on it, and each button load a series of images (simulating a zoom) What i want to know is if there is a way to preload the external swf (the ones each button loads) while the user is looking the main movie, so, when he presses a button, the external swf plays inmediately and there is no "loading" time. I try several ways and google it and find some tutorials but no one works.

In order to put some dynamic content into my flash site, I have used loadvariables in order to retrieve into variables some html content.I have also used dynamic text (renderred as html) in order to retrieve the values of those variables (using Var parameter).My problem is that whenever html indicates <img> tags, those images are loaded when the dynamic texts first appeared in screen.

I have all the graphics together,I have a .swf file that is to large it will not play at desired speed. The background images need to run 882 frames while the rest only needs 210 frames. I want all the layers to loop. I am trying to preload the 882 frames but don't know how to.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to call an XML tag itself (not the value of the tag). I have a program that reads data from specifically named tags. I.E the program understands the tag <image> and the xml file i'm loading has a similar reference but calls the tag <picture>.
How do I replace the <picture> tag with <image> so it understands it?
