ActionScript 2.0 :: Preloading Carousel Icons (SWF Movies)?

I am using a self modified version of Lee's carousel 3 tutorial on my website. A couple of my icons on the carousel are .swf movies that I have optimized. Is there any way to preload all of my swf movies that are being called up from the xml? I've seen the swf preloading tutorial but I'm not sure how to apply that towards the carousel or even if it's possible to do so since the preload is happening as the user first enters the site and not when a button is pushed, etc...

I am not new to html or flash but, some what new to XML. I created a carousel based off the tutorials and it works great on my computer but, when I create an html file and attach the .swf file the flash file loads but, the icon images or anything from the .xml file doesn't appear.This is what I use to load my .swf file :

Do I have to put a special script in the html document for it to be able to see the xml file?

I followed the tutorial for the 3D Carousel, tutorials 1 through 3. (Great tutorial by the way) The main thing that I want to change about the 3d carouosel is how it loads. If I simulate the download for say a 3d carousel, the icons come onto the stage kind of at random intervals depending on how quickly it downloads each external image file. I was hoping that some sort of preloader (whether it be the basic one or the advanced one in the tutorials) would work to load the movie without seeing the icons pop in slowly on load. But Neither of them seemed to work. I even tried the "load an external SWF" tutorial and that didn't work either.
So instead I decided to modify the 3D carousel to not pull external images into the movie by reading the xml file as it currently does but to just create individual item movie clips for each item. For some reason, when I edited the item movie clips I lost the masker effect. I can't seem to figure out how to get the masker effect to start working again. I tried tracing the bitmap for the icon, or breaking it apart but that didn't work.
What things or settings are needed in order for the masker to work correctly?Is there a smooth way to preload the 3D carousel without seeing the icons pop in one at a time as it loads the external images?

I am working on a site and am using a lot of different scrollpane components that use outside .swf movies as its content. What I would like to do is create a progress bar for each section that uses this scenario so my users know it is doing something.

apologies if this seems like a redundant question... i've been reading through all the turorials and forum threads i can find, and am just confused at to what exactly i need to do next.... my first time trying to use preloaders but am finding i need them in order to make my project run smoothly.... my situation: want to preload 5 swf files into my main movie, and have them at the ready to play when i want them to (either by an onEnterFrame or onPress).
i started working with some preload array script from Scotty i found on one of the threads, but elsewhere i've seen info about putting extra frames into the uploading swfs and am unsure what i need to do with this or how it would fit in with the below code. right now, when i try to play one of the uploaded swf files nothing is happening, and i'm guess my code is wrong there too, but don't know what to put....

I have several movies that will be loaded into a main movie. I am loading the movies when the user chooses to open each movie. The problem is that then the user has to wait until each movie loads. Is there any way to change this?

I got two questions in my mind. The first one is which is a better format for importing a movie? Should I use QUICKTIME or other formats?
Now the second one is a little bit confusing. Let's say I have successfully imported any movie to my FLA file, I was wondering if their is a way to PRELOAD half of the entire movie before actually playing it, that way, audience won't wait for a very long time if needed.

I have an intro.swf file that is basically a movie with sound that is exported for actionscript but not exported in the first frame. I just stuck it in a movie on my timeline and it works great and the preloader works because it doesn't load the sound before the preloader. I use :
musicSound = new Sound();
musicSound.attachSound("music");
musicSound.start();
to play the sound in intro.swf.
However, now this intro.swf gets loaded into an index.swf and everything works fine and the sound plays as long as I have the sound included in BOTH the intro.swf and the index.swf and the sound is exported on the first frame in the index.swf. I was hoping I could remove the sound entirely from my index.swf since it already loads into the intro but so far

I have been having trouble creating a movie clip with a reverse rollover effect within a movie which has a reverse rollover effect. that sounds confusing
In essence I wish to create a panel that rolls out on rollover and rolls back in reverse when the you rollout. I have done this using this script

However I wish to make movies within this movie that have the same effect on them. But when I create another movie or button within this movie it is not registering on rollover. I guess because the script on the main movie overrides it?

I am creating a calendar and only one part isnt work. That part is the movie (mc_nav). I have the mc_nav movie on each month's stage. The buttons are named correctly since I used normal modes reference thingy to double check the references. I am trying to have it move to the next frame in the movie, or back, or to the 3rd frame etc. The first section (NAVIGATION BUTTON LINKS) works fine. It is just when I try to navigate on the Scene 1 stage, from a movie within a movie, that the trouble arises. Each of the month movies (mc_sep, mc_oct, etc) have mc_nav placed on them. Then the month movies are placed in Scene 1 on each of their respective frames (mc_sep = 4, mc_oct = 5, etc). When testing the movie and I am sent to any month page, the navigation (mc_nav) wont work. The syntax according to the flash debugger is correct. The action script goes all the way through to the last frame (13) and the stop(); command is set to stop the movie at frame 3 (the splash page).

I have a project using 2 groups of radio buttons. Each group needs its own icon. I can skin the RadioButton Asset, but that affects ALL radio buttons. I guess U need to be able to change the icon property on an instance-by-instance basis.

there are two icons that become visible when a mc is selected, a small crosshair and a small circle. Sometimes they're in the same place, sometimes not. I understand the small crosshair is the origin, where all transforms originate from, but what's the circle, and what does it mean when the two icons are in different locations?

i have been making some little animated icons and I have gotten stuck on one in particular.I think I have attached an image of it here. What I want to do is start off with a solid red triangle and animate it being sucked or beamed up into the spaceship, as you see in the picture.I want it to look kind of like the triangle is dissolving into little particles which are being sucked into the spaceship

I've been looking at the following example for populating a PupUpMenuButton [URL] and would like to add icons to each menu. Ideally, I would specify the icon in the xml and assign it in a similar way to using labelFunction for the text. The only information I've found via google is to create a menu as follows
(seems I can't include more than one url, but it is an example that creates a menu object using the following function):

but I would really prefer to build it all from the XML file.

I'm trying to set my own icons for Air for Android using Flash CS5. I see the icon tab within the Air Android Settings panel, but it won't let me navigate to my icons. Also, I would add the path to my manifest.xml file, but it gets overwritten while publishing.

I can display the icon of a file that has been associated with that file in the native OS.
I have a tile list of a folder's contents. For images, I display the image, for everything else I display a generic image. However, it would be great if I could tap into the OS and just use the icon that the OS uses. For example, if I have installed Microsoft Word on my computer, then when I view a word document in the file system it will display the word icon that Microsoft created for word documents. For MP3's it might be an iTunes type sound icon, if I have iTunes installed and so on.
Basically, for all the files in my tile list I want to just show the same icon that Windows, or Mac OS would etc.
In addition to this, if the OS creates a thumbnail for the file (images, videos and PDFs for example) is it possible to tap into this OS generated thumb?

I'm working on a little navigation here where several icons will fly up to a certain height and then hover around, kinda like a flying insect might. Most of my actionscripting experience has been pretty basic so far, and i'm having a little trouble getting this thing to do exactly what i want.
these are things that i would like to happen: -- the icons fly up sequentially, instead of all at once -- the icons fly up to a less uniform height (more variance on the Y axis)these are things that really need to be fixed, but i can't figure out how: if you rollover the icons too fast, they go to a negative scale(which flips them over)also, i'm sure this code isn't the most efficient, and there are a few onEnterFrames that i could probably get rid of, but when i tried deleting any, it would break the code.

all this pages are in one movieclip called PAG with appropriate names to moviclip and frames. I am having problem with Home page i hv some icons which shld take user to links. but its not working . and same link works fine with training page.
