ActionScript 2.0 :: TextField.StyleSheet And TextFormat() Not Working Together?
Jun 5, 2007
I'm trying to put some leading on a body of text, however it doesn't seem to work after a stylesheet has been applied. Without the stylesheet it works..
I have a TextField which styleSheet i want to change at runtime.For testing I created a new .FLA put a Textfield on stage, set it to dynamic, named it mytxt and added some AS3:[code]Well nothing changed I still have a default black text when I publish the swf.My goals:
I am working on a large project that displays a fair amount of text.how to best handle the formatting of the text globally? what is the best way to handle the text formatting on a global level ? Through the TextFormat class, through style sheets, a combination of these two depending on the specific situation ?
Is it a best practice for large projects to use style sheets for all of the texts ? Implying that all texts must be written with tags.Using only style sheets seems like the best approach at this time to me but before going into coding this approach on a large scale in my project,
I am trying to attach a styleSheet to a textField. If I have a tag defined in the css file it will not show in the textField. all the other text is there just not the link (a {font-weight: bold;} is the only thing in my css file).
I tried adding a <p> tag to the text and the css - then all my text disappeared.I deleted everything out of the css file (while still attaching it to the textField in flash). and all my text showed including the link, which worked. But it naturally had no style.
I've just discovered that using a stylesheet on an input textfield renders it uneditable. Does anyone one know of a work-around? Trying to build a text editor for a backend project, but it seems to have crashed before takeoff.
i was trying to make a simple analog clock flash but when i try to make a new Date() line that pops: **Error** C:Documents and SettingsUserLocal SettingsApplication DataMacromediaFlash enConfigurationClassesFP8TextFieldStyleShee t.as: Line 7: The name of this class, 'TextField.StyleSheet', conflicts with the name of another class that was loaded, 'TextField.StyleSheet'.{Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 14 and i tried to make that the only action on a different project it still shows exactly the same thing
I'm trying to update some TextField's style, eg. color, fontSize, fontFamily. I'm creating field by:
var textField:TextField = new TextField(); var style:StyleSheet = new StyleSheet(); style.parseCSS("p{color: #000000; fontFamily: System; fontSize: 20px;}"); textField.styleSheet = style;
I have a problem where i want to remove the last character from a textfield (including linebreaks) that has multiple textformats without removing the formats.[code]...
i guess this doesn't remove linebreaks, and is very slow, seems to destroy my textformats.
or:
textfield.text = textfield.text.slice(0,-1);
this is faster but removes all textformats as well.
I'm trying to apply a format (specifically, green-colored text) to specific words in a TextField. I tried the below method, checking for words in an array "commands", and it works fine apart from a few issues below (see pic).
ActionScript Code: var commands:Array = ["green", "no"] // etc. function formatGreen(msg:TextField):void { for (var i in commands) {
I have a set of 5 TextFields that a user enters info into. Each has the same TextFormat applied. If the focus is set by clicking with the mouse, the TextFormat is applied and all is well. If the focus is set by tabbing, the TextFormat is not applied and a default style for the font is seen. Here's my code:
Code: var input1:TextField = new TextField(); addChild(input1)[code]...................
I have very little experience with text in flash. In a dynamic text field I know I can apply a TextFormat to the entire field but can I apply different fromatting to individual workd in the field if for example I wanted to make a word or a few words of text a hyperlink within a textfield. Can I do that or would I need to use html text?
Project: Simple Click Counter of two separate buttons.
Problem: Font size of clicks needs to be changed/increased.

Not sure where to place this code in the script below.(inserting it causes font to initially to be correct size of 20 but changes back to default when a mouse click is issued)[code]...
throught code i am trying to read GUI display objects. (don't ask why) My problem is that i can read individual properties of TextField object and TextFormat object, but not traverse those objects to gather all its contents at once.
See my code, individual traces are hapening ok, but those in for cicles are not, i don't get it.
Code: if (_target.getChildAt(i) is TextField) { var currentTextField:TextField = _target.getChildAt(i) as TextField; trace(currentTextField.embedFonts); //true
I have a TextField that is formatted with bold and blue. However, when I change TextField.text, the formatting of the textfield resets and I have to setTextFormat again. This is the code I use to set my TextField. myText is the variable for my TextField. (This is just part of my code; it is part of a function for my EventListener.)
This is a bit of code that lets the user click somewhere and type in some text. Everything in my code works except I can't seem to set the text format. It defaults to Times New Roman. Do I need to embed the fonts or something?
I have a form and everything is components: labels, comboBox button. I have applied a text format to all the elements. I want the user to select a font from the combo box drop down and then all fonts change. However, I can only get this to work when I don't apply any textFormats to my components initially. I know in as2 you had to setNewTextFormat, is it somewhat similar with this setStyle?
Here is my code:
PHP Code:
package { import flash.display.*;
[code]....
I should point out that the font of the comboBox does change because that doesn't have a text format applied to it.
I'm having a problem with a my TextFormat object in the Letter class I've created. Whenever I call a class function that alters the TextFormat object (formatText,sizeText,colorText), the next time that one of these functions is called on a different instance the common formatting is applied. I've read that you need to redefine objects or arrays within the class constructor in order to make them unique to instances. I think I've done here with this code but it is not working:
I'm using a non-window default font (installed on my PC) to show in a text field. This font is also present in my library with appropriate linkage name. Now if i use this font in the TexFormat the font does not show, instead the text is shown in default 'Times' font.But if i use "Arial" as TextFormat font then the textfield's text appear in arial font, although the arial font is not present in the library.
Code: var myformat:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); myformat.font = "MyradPro"; //"Arial" works fine.
I have a weird problem with my textfields.. They are not displaying at all. I've tried embedding/unembedding the fonts, removing all animations, but I can't see anything.What's weird is, a few days ago it was working fine. Then I changed some of the code a bit, then changed it back. AFAIK, my code now is just the same a few days ago.
The default value text displays, but when you click into them to type nothing appears.I've tried embedding fonts, making sure I use th Font class, even setting them to _sans and system font, but nothing. Totally at my ropes end before I wind up re-writing most of this thing.These really should be TextInputs, I know, but this is some other f*cker's crap work I'm cleaning up and I don't feel like refactoring the rest of his garbage.
I am trying to get setTextFormat working, but I can't seem to get it to work. The textfield appears and has the text I want, however, the font is just not changing.Here is my code:
package { import flash.display.MovieClip;import flash.text.TextField;import flash.text.TextFormat; public class Photograph extends MovieClip {
