ActionScript 2.0 :: TextFormat Object In Class Not Working?
Sep 6, 2007
I'm having a problem with a my TextFormat object in the Letter class I've created. Whenever I call a class function that alters the TextFormat object (formatText,sizeText,colorText), the next time that one of these functions is called on a different instance the common formatting is applied. I've read that you need to redefine objects or arrays within the class constructor in order to make them unique to instances. I think I've done here with this code but it is not working:
This is a bit of code that lets the user click somewhere and type in some text. Everything in my code works except I can't seem to set the text format. It defaults to Times New Roman. Do I need to embed the fonts or something?
I have a form and everything is components: labels, comboBox button. I have applied a text format to all the elements. I want the user to select a font from the combo box drop down and then all fonts change. However, I can only get this to work when I don't apply any textFormats to my components initially. I know in as2 you had to setNewTextFormat, is it somewhat similar with this setStyle?
Here is my code:
PHP Code:
package { import flash.display.*;
[code]....
I should point out that the font of the comboBox does change because that doesn't have a text format applied to it.
I'm trying to put some leading on a body of text, however it doesn't seem to work after a stylesheet has been applied. Without the stylesheet it works..
I'm using a non-window default font (installed on my PC) to show in a text field. This font is also present in my library with appropriate linkage name. Now if i use this font in the TexFormat the font does not show, instead the text is shown in default 'Times' font.But if i use "Arial" as TextFormat font then the textfield's text appear in arial font, although the arial font is not present in the library.
Code: var myformat:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); myformat.font = "MyradPro"; //"Arial" works fine.
I've recently started to learn/use AS 3.0 and am now exploring the use of external custom classes.I have an fla with a text field in place. I want to write an AS 3.0 class in an external .as file which sets a text format, and apply that format to the text field in the fla file - how do i so this?
According to the ActionScript 3.0 documentation, the TextFormat classes size property is an Object. Why is this? Clearly this is a number! When I check its type (using typeOf()), it returns Number. So whats the deal?
I'm trying to understand the properties of the TextFormat class.[code]In the code above I defined my variable sir of type TextFormat (sir is an instance of the class TextFormat). What I want to do is to experiment some of the properties for that class.In the example above I want to make the string of type textformat class arial , align him to right, block indent=10, style bold etc.I made a switch here because I understood that function but I don't know how to integrate this to my first 2 lines of code to complete understand all properties of class TextFormat.[code]
I'm struggling a bit to fully understand garbage collection. To be honest I don't understand why this just can't be taken care of automatically but hey - I'm not a programmer so what do I know... Now to my question - I have the following code:
Code: var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); format.letterSpacing = -3.5; huvud_txt.setTextFormat(format);
Is it enough to set format = null; to destroy the format object or is there some crossreference going on here so that I need to do something more? huvud_txt is a textfield on stage - it's not created with code...
I have created a textFormat object and applied to Dynamic text field, but I do not see the effect. Am I missing something? I have a section of the code belo. fields[h] is actually a dynamic text field in the case below. As you can see I have assigned the arial as a font and red color as its color. But when I run the movie, it has no effect at all. But if I trace the textFormat as below i can see arial and 0xff0000 (in decimal) in console.
conversion of htmlText ( which contains all the formatting info ) to an equivalent TextFormat object.. so that I can transfer the htmlText info ( with formatting ) to a TextFormat object and then apply them to any textfield..
You may wonder why this approach when it can be done directly using the htmlText? Cos I am trying to manipulate the text field by resizing it ( with a user-controlled handle )..It works fine when I use normal text, but when I use the html=true, the resize seems to go haywire... ( if any one has tried this earlier.. I would like to hear about getting around this )
I need to apply the formatting at the same time make it resizable ( by user ) as expected.. which could be done if the html formatting info can be applied as a TextFormat object to the text field.. rather than set the htmlText="someFormattedText".
In short, I am looking for a parser that would read the htmlText info and convert it to TextFormat object(s).
I'm having some troubles with the use of interface and inheritance in AS3. I've done lots of OOP in the past and what I'm trying to do seems obvious to me, but doesn't work in AS3. The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):
I have a class CoverPoint extends Pointwith some extra function.except for that ther is no difference. I would like to use the functions of Point with a return value of Point, to calculate those CoverPoints.Can i turn the return value into CoverPoint (since all the vars are the same, there shouldn't be a problem with that, right?), so that it can be stored in my var cP:CoverPoint;
I created an array in the var declarations with Code: var private eDrag:Array In a function that adds imported mcs to the stage, I also added code to push each to the array. Here is an example of a block of code loading the object with the part pushing the object to the array at the end:
public class Example { public function Example () { }[code]............
You can see that the two last classes extend the first one, and both have the 'variable' property. In case that I have an instance of Example and I am sure it is also an ExtendedExample OR AnotherExtendedExample instance, is there some way to access the 'variable' property? Something like
function functionThatReceivesAnExtendedExample (ex:Example):void { if(some condition that I may need) { ex.func()
Using Flash CS5 Professional I have created a symbol, dragged it onto the stage, and given it an instance name of GreenLight1. If I want to make this visible from the document class, I can simply do the GreenLight1.visible=true; and poof it's good to go when I test the file. As long as I stay in the document class I am good to go, but now I'm trying to move to another class and hitting ALL kinds of trouble just trying to get Flash to allow me to access this simple object. All I am looking to do is have this GreenLight1 go invisible (visible=false) when a certain condition occurs in this new class and Flash just won't let me access GreenLight1 at all. Things I've tried thus far:
stage is passed to the class and is referenced by _stage and is working just fine when I do _stage.addchild or anything like that. So I have tried "_stage.GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property GreenLight1 not found on flash.display.Stage and there is no default value." My document class extends Sprite, so I figured I'd try the root function. So I tried "Sprite(root).GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "1119: Access of possibly undefined property GreenLight1 through a reference with static type flash.display:Sprite." I tried to create the Resource class as described therein. To which I came across the same problem that I started with in that it doesn't know what GreenLight1 is to begin with so I got "1120: Access of undefined property GreenLight1." Here is my code for Resource.as (am I supposed to pass something to this class from the document class?)
I have question regarding removing instantiated objects. Let's say i have a main class in which i instantiate a custom video player (or whatever) class:
[Code]...
From my experience, if i don't destroy for example event listeners from my VideoPlayer class and just remove VideoPlayer class the way described they still get fired with null exception messages etc. This is something that's bugging me for a while so i would really like to know what's best thing to do here?
When I use MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT the target is [object MovieClip], but when I use MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT I get [object Bildspel] - and Bildspel is my class. The thing is that when I use ROLL_OUT I'm not able to delete the targets ENTER_FRAME event.
Ok. So heres what I am trying to do. I want one movie clip to follow another one that I move around with actions on the main timeline.The problem is that the follower clip is linked to a class file and I cannot find a way to find the players position.
I found myself loading a new XML file every day and so decided to create a small class that will load the xml file and return it.The class is loading the file but when i try to return it to a new xml object in the document class it doesnt load it.I think that it's something to with the return being in a nested function but i tried a few ways and non seems to work.
[DOCUMENT CLASS] loadXML:LoadXML = new LoadXML(); myXML:XML = new XML(loadXML.loadXMLFile("gallery.xml"));[code].....
I have created a class, call it Class1, that has various objects drawn on the stage (drawn in the IDE). It also has a function, called setColour, for changing the colour of those objects. The function works fine if I call it from within Class1.
Now I have another class, call it testClass1, that imports Class1 and calls the setColour function. First of all, none of the stage objects from Class1 are visible. Secondly, when setColour tries to modify the colour of an object, I get the error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
How can i cast a object to another type? in AS3 i tried putting (objectType) infront of the variable but it doesnt work, below i have added objects of fishes into the child, and i am getting the fishes back out when mouse down is triggered, and then calling the fishes what to do. however i cant call the method of the custom class fish because it is a displayobject.[code]...
The following is that long only because I gave examples of what I want to know, not because it is complex .I have three basic questions regarding AS 3.0 classes.
1. How can I make a class object interact with an object on stage?
For example, when I have a square (mc_Square) with class "square" attached to it and I want it to trace "Colliding!" and print the X and Y of the mc_Box on contact with an on-stage *hollow* box (mc_Box) that has no class attached to it.how to do it vice-versa would also be awesome .
2. How can I make a class object interact with the same class object? For example, when I have two squares (mc_Square) that both have the class "square" attached to it and when they collide, it prints the X and Y of both of them.
3. How can I make a class object interact with a different class object?
For example, when I have two squares mc_Square1 with class "square1 (that also has a variable Primary=true written in it)" and a mc_Square2 with class "square2"; When they collide, the one with Primary=true would be removed and it's X,Y position traced.
I have created an enemy object from document class. if my enemy score becomes zero, the enemy must get removed.Is there any way to remove that object by destroy the object from document class?.
