ActionScript 3.0 :: Garbage Collect Textformat Object?

Jul 13, 2010

I'm struggling a bit to fully understand garbage collection. To be honest I don't understand why this just can't be taken care of automatically but hey - I'm not a programmer so what do I know... Now to my question - I have the following code:

Code:
var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
format.letterSpacing = -3.5;
huvud_txt.setTextFormat(format);

Is it enough to set format = null; to destroy the format object or is there some crossreference going on here so that I need to do something more? huvud_txt is a textfield on stage - it's not created with code...

Actionscript 3 :: Large To Garbage Collect?

Sep 16, 2011

I'm working on a flash game that has developed an obvious memory leak. I do what I'm supposed to do with GC; remove all references to the object, nullify it, remove all listeners (or use weak listeners); but the leak is still present.

I've stumbled across this article: [URL].. It claims that objects that are too large will never be garbage collected. This theory fits well with my project since all of my game resides in a couple of huge MovieClips that are created and destroyed often.

Is there any merit to the claim that objects that are too large will never be garbage collected?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Applied Textformat Object No Effect?

I have created a textFormat object and applied to Dynamic text field, but I do not see the effect. Am I missing something? I have a section of the code belo. fields[h] is actually a dynamic text field in the case below. As you can see I have assigned the arial as a font and red color as its color. But when I run the movie, it has no effect at all. But if I trace the textFormat as below i can see arial and 0xff0000 (in decimal) in console.

ActionScript 2.0 :: TextFormat Object In Class Not Working?

Sep 6, 2007

I'm having a problem with a my TextFormat object in the Letter class I've created. Whenever I call a class function that alters the TextFormat object (formatText,sizeText,colorText), the next time that one of these functions is called on a different instance the common formatting is applied. I've read that you need to redefine objects or arrays within the class constructor in order to make them unique to instances. I think I've done here with this code but it is not working:

Code:
//Letter Constructor

ActionScript 2.0 :: Convert HtmlText Info To TextFormat Object?

May 26, 2010

conversion of htmlText ( which contains all the formatting info ) to an equivalent TextFormat object.. so that I can transfer the htmlText info ( with formatting ) to a TextFormat object and then apply them to any textfield..

You may wonder why this approach when it can be done directly using the htmlText? Cos I am trying to manipulate the text field by resizing it ( with a user-controlled handle )..It works fine when I use normal text, but when I use the html=true, the resize seems to go haywire... ( if any one has tried this earlier.. I would like to hear about getting around this )

I need to apply the formatting at the same time make it resizable ( by user ) as expected.. which could be done if the html formatting info can be applied as a TextFormat object to the text field.. rather than set the htmlText="someFormattedText".

In short, I am looking for a parser that would read the htmlText info and convert it to TextFormat object(s).

Working on AS2 - Flash 8.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Trace Object References For Garbage Collecting?

Oct 12, 2009

I'm trying to get my head around optimising AS3 code and clearing things out for garbage collection.

I understand that each time an item is referred to in the code it has its reference count increased by one, so I was wondering if there is a trace option I can use to see how many references each of my objects has?

I can then see where things are getting left behind (if they are) and where I can make optimise better.

I think it would help me work out several issues if I was able to do this

As I understand it "myVar" are the only references to each "SomeObject" object that gets instantiated. Shouldn't the fact that myVar is local mean that SomeObject should be available for garbage collection after each new page is loaded?

My question is, can I create one .swf for museum staff that uses an array to review each of the SO's created by the individual sections or will a flash file ONLY read in one SharedObject forcing me to create a separate app for each section for the museum staff?

Actionscript :: Collect Dependencies From Adobe Flex Files?

I'm looking for a way to collect the file dependencies from Flex ActionScript and MXML files. I was hoping that mxmlc could spit them out (like gcc's -M option), but its option list doesn't seem to have anything relevant. I could write a parser, but would prefer not to reinvent the wheel if it has already been done, particularly given the two very different languages involved. In particular, star imports and in-package implicit imports could be troublesome.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Collect Dynamic Variables In Flash To Send To .php File?

Jun 27, 2003

Let a qualified-user place a dot on a country map and this dot will be shown on the map. When other users come by they see dot's and those dot's trigger a image.

1 Create a map, duh

2 Use the mouse to get the coordinates (_x and _y position) onRelease will be the selected coordinates.

3 Create a preview-scene were the qualified user sees the placement of his dot.

4 If oke, a image upload scene is triggered (the selected _x and _y coordinates are hidden)

5 The qualified user selects a image on his computer.

6 Again a preview scene, now with the dot on the map and the selected image.

7 If oke the user sends the coordinates and image to the server (i will use php-files to upload the info and a mysql-db to store the info)

I am stuck with step 2. In the attach file you can see what i have so fare.The trace messages are the data i want to send to a php script. And think i must create an array in flash something like:

Code:
coords = new array();
for (i=0;i<=v;i++)[code]...

You gotta see the attach .fla to understand this. I have the values collected in "controller" movieClip.

Basically I need to find the name of the textformat, which when I created i named like this:

global.formatos[nombreFormato]=new TextFormat();

I have my formats in an xml file with name, attributes, etc. I can get the properties of the TextFormat but I dont know which TextFormat it actually is!!
