ActionScript 3.0 :: Class Is Loading The File But When Return It To A New Xml Object In The Document Class It Doesnt Load It?
Aug 18, 2009
I found myself loading a new XML file every day and so decided to create a small class that will load the xml file and return it.The class is loading the file but when i try to return it to a new xml object in the document class it doesnt load it.I think that it's something to with the return being in a nested function but i tried a few ways and non seems to work.
[DOCUMENT CLASS]
loadXML:LoadXML = new LoadXML();
myXML:XML = new XML(loadXML.loadXMLFile("gallery.xml"));[code].....
I'm having some troubles with the use of interface and inheritance in AS3. I've done lots of OOP in the past and what I'm trying to do seems obvious to me, but doesn't work in AS3. The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):
Using Flash CS5 Professional I have created a symbol, dragged it onto the stage, and given it an instance name of GreenLight1. If I want to make this visible from the document class, I can simply do the GreenLight1.visible=true; and poof it's good to go when I test the file. As long as I stay in the document class I am good to go, but now I'm trying to move to another class and hitting ALL kinds of trouble just trying to get Flash to allow me to access this simple object. All I am looking to do is have this GreenLight1 go invisible (visible=false) when a certain condition occurs in this new class and Flash just won't let me access GreenLight1 at all. Things I've tried thus far:
stage is passed to the class and is referenced by _stage and is working just fine when I do _stage.addchild or anything like that. So I have tried "_stage.GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property GreenLight1 not found on flash.display.Stage and there is no default value." My document class extends Sprite, so I figured I'd try the root function. So I tried "Sprite(root).GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "1119: Access of possibly undefined property GreenLight1 through a reference with static type flash.display:Sprite." I tried to create the Resource class as described therein. To which I came across the same problem that I started with in that it doesn't know what GreenLight1 is to begin with so I got "1120: Access of undefined property GreenLight1." Here is my code for Resource.as (am I supposed to pass something to this class from the document class?)
Is there a way to link to a class file from the timeline rather than using the Document Class? (I tried using the document class but it messed up because of the nested movie clips and stuff like that... so I need another way)
I have a FLA (say Main.FLA) document class with a child MovieClip on the stage: into the child MovieClip I load other swf files: each of the files contains its own Document Class (every swf is a somewhat independent application, say quizzes and so on).For some reason I must use the Main document class to store data (scores or so) from the child swfs loaded into the Main swf. HOW do I reference the Main class? I can't find a way.[code]and dispatch an Event this way from the loaded swf document class to the Main class:[code]Now, first of all I don't know if this could even work. Secondly, I tried to make it work by adding an event listener to my Main class but id did not work.
So I had a working .fla, with a document class package in the same directory. Everything was fine, until moving both to a new directory, now the fla cannot find the document class. WTF?
I have created an enemy object from document class. if my enemy score becomes zero, the enemy must get removed. Is there any way to remove that object by destroy the object from document class?.
I have a CSV reader class that parses a CSV file..... 1,11.15126526 2,11.28306635 3,10.78296071 4,10.79878325 The CSV reader class works and produces a Vector.<Point> ... However the container class (which includes an instance of the CSVFile class) needs to access the resultant Vector. Whenever I 'return' the Vector.<Point> to the container via a CSV method it is always empty...I don't know if its something to do with the size of the Vector<> or what?
I have a movie which is placed on the stage in the authoring environment, this movie is called LiftMovie. When the user clicks on a button in LiftMovie, it loads another movie into a placeholder called MallPlaceHolder and the LiftMovie has its visibility set to false. From the document class of the movie loaded into MallPlaceHolder, if the user clicks on the image of the Lift in the mall, I want it to make the LiftMovie visible again.
How do you return data from a custom class, and only when something in the custom class has completed something. For example, let's say I have this code in the custom class[code]...
This, of course, doesn't work. I need the whatever.getLoadedObject() method to wait until the loading has finished inside the custom class then do whatever with the image loaded.
Is there a way I can load a swf file but not automatically instantiate it's DocumentClass? Instead I want to do something like the following: protected function mainLoaded(e:Event = null):void { trace('mainLoaded'); var main:* = this.mainLoad.createClassByName('Main'); trace(main); } Where mainLoad is an instance of CasaLib's SwfLoad and createClassByName is the equivalent to loaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDefinition(); The thing is that when my swf finishes loading I can see it is created, because of some trace calls, although its obviously not added to the display list.
I have created a image gallery. it uses a document class and several supporting classes. It works great. I need to load that swf gallery.swf into a another movie. When I try to do this I get this error. TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at oxylus.rotator::Main()oxylus.rotator.Main is my document class for the gallery.swf that is being loaded into another flash movie.I don't get why it would cause errors as its a compiled swf and should not have references to that class.
So I have created the main class for the .fla file but I want a menu screen before my game starts playing. However, because of my doc class loads on the first frame, I dont know how to control when the document class will start loading.
I have two files, MenuButton and JerkChicken (my document class...don't ask).
MenuButton loads a font and then creates a textfield with a background rectangle that is inivisible (for a hit state).
In my document class (JerkChicken.as) I build a menu with the following function:
Code: private function buildMenu() { var labels:Array = new Array( "one",
[Code]....
Or something similar...basically I want to take the width of the menu button, add a bit of space and then place down the next menu button (to make a horizontal menu bar).
The problem I am having is menuButton.width is returning 0.
In the menuButton class when I try to trace the width (i.e. trace (_bgWidth)) I am getting the width but when the button is created in the document class, I am not retrieving the width.
I guess what I am looking for is to somehow send "_bgWidth" from the MenuButton class to the document class...but I don't know how to do this.
I cant load an image in the document class. Do I need to load all images from a class as I cant load images in a Document class directly?
With this code I get a Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Main/moveright() at Main/doSomething()
Code: // Class public class Main extends MovieClip { // Variables private var noLoaded:int; var myText:TextField = new TextField(); private var img1:Bitmap; [Code] .....
I am trying to load external classes into a document class and initialize the page by loading one of them (which loads xml and videos) I feel like I should be able to do this but have not found documentation on this. Below is the code i am using...
when you have a document class for something, how do you load the symbols?lets say you have a gallery and a few buttons for it, and you will load that gallery swf into main site.is it better to leave these symbols on the stage or load them from the library or something else?
Well the shiny new app is now 830K and needs to be preloaded. Simple eh? I've got a preloader that works nicely but I've been trying all day to find a reasonable way to load a swf that was compiled as a document class. My solution was to make a bare bones swf that would preload my main app swf:
This is simple, however I am having trouble. I am adding a swf to the stage in my Document class (Test.as) - it works. I am trying to add the same swf to the stage in a different class called Control.as, it doesn't work. Can someone please help and explain what I am doing wrong?
// Document class Test.as // Adding bg.swf to the stage - this works.... package ca.blah (
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at QuizApp/createStatusBox() at QuizApp()
That's the error message I get when it tries to play. What I have is an swf that loads another when its done, the new swf is blank but has a document class to an AS file. It seems the problem lies when a function is not properly being added to the stage.
The function is added like this.. Code: package{ public class QuizApp extends Sprite{ public function QuizApp(){ createButtons(); private function createButtons() { if (this.stage == null) { trace("STAGE IS NULL!!!"); } var yPosition:Number; addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, addedToStage); ...
I'm using the following code to arrange indexes of objects on the stage the only problem is I can't access an Object that has been made in a class in an external AS document. if i go into the document and trace I can see it but i can't access it from the document class and arrange its index anybody have any ideas?
If I have a Document class that extends MovieClip, and I want to use it as the basis for another Document class, is it possible to create a subclass that extends the main document class and use that for a different FLA?
For example,
fla1.fla has a document class of MyMainClass: public class MyMainClass extends MovieClip fla2.fla has a document class of MySubClass: public class MySubClass extends MyMainClass
I've tried, but now I'm getting errors that all of my variables that reference stage instances aren't being found.
while working with a server side script (php or aspx) which returns some data(from the database) can we call it in a sub-class or do we have to make the calls in the document class itself?
Say i need to send some data from AS 3.0 to a server-side script for it to do some actions. Can I do this in a sub-class called some where in a document class or should we always do it in a document class?
