View 1 RepliesI found myself loading a new XML file every day and so decided to create a small class that will load the xml file and return it.The class is loading the file but when i try to return it to a new xml object in the document class it doesnt load it.I think that it's something to with the return being in a nested function but i tried a few ways and non seems to work.

I'm trying to set up a website that uses the MovieClipLoader class to load external images & swfs. The loader is working but I can't seem to get the preloader text to work, ie the onLoadProgress. The Percent text just has jibberish when I test the movie. Could some tell me what I'm doing wrong. Attached is the test file that I'm working on

How do you return data from a custom class, and only when something in the custom class has completed something. For example, let's say I have this code in the custom class[code]...
This, of course, doesn't work. I need the whatever.getLoadedObject() method to wait until the loading has finished inside the custom class then do whatever with the image loaded.
I have a flash menu which is currently loading its contents via a ever-changing XML file... well this has always been a good thing and worked just fine... until the release of AOL 9.0, which for some reason causes the XML to stop loading.So I found a workaround for this... rather than calling "menu.xml" I have this sript called "proxy.asp" which loads the "menu.xml" file into it via some sort of crazy .asp tunneling and object creation. NOW...since I run in literally hundreds of websites I need it to be dynamic. Is there a way for me to use the sendAndLoad() in Flash to pass the "proxy.asp" file a couple variables that will return the XML as an XML Object back into Flash? I know it can return Strings, but I need to learn how to send 2 variables out - ID and progID - and then based on that I will have the "theURL" variable in the proxy.asp file load the appropriate menu.xml file. how do I setup a sendAndLoad() with the LoadVars() and return XML from the proxy.asp?
I'm having some troubles with the use of interface and inheritance in AS3. I've done lots of OOP in the past and what I'm trying to do seems obvious to me, but doesn't work in AS3. The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):

I've got a Gridcolumn in a Datagrid (Spark). The Column's dataprovider is a Number value that gets updated via Binding.Now, without an item renderer the cell displays the correct values.If I set an item renderer, I can't access the values in this renderer.My renderer looks like this, so nothing really do here (for now) but to trace the value, but the value is always NaN.

_listItems is an ArrayList with instances of a model class, which has (amongst others) a property called change of type Number.
I have an xml file (externally saved) that is similar to the following:

What I like to do is to get what's in [title] tag using HTTPservice, import it into Flex, and save it as array objects, and do the same thing for [content]. This way I can later refer the array object saying title[0] or content[2].
I know how to load an xml data into the stage by using one class from library However, rite now, I have 3 customer_mc with class for each:[code] how can i put three customer mc into the for loop? Do I put it in an array? Do you mind give me an example? I want to link the xml to each character classes,like char 1 is the first <customer> tag from the xml data. View 4 RepliesI have a movie clip that holds one bitmap image, some simple AS3 to change the image displayed, and a ton of bitmaps I've imported into my library.Currently, I swap the images by changing the bitmapData
holder.bitmapData = new test2(1,1);
but this requires me to check off 'Export for ActionScript' in every symbol. I'd rather not go through every bitmap in the library and do this, is there some way to reference them by their library name?
I apologize if this has been covered already, but I'm not sure where to start because I don't know the proper setup for this. I've been making Flash sites for a while and am pretty comfortable with it, including actionscripting, but I have a real estate client that wants to be able to update their site with new roperties themselves. Obviously a simple HTML page would be easiest, but I wanted to find out how this would be done in flash. Most of the examples I see are for linking to xml data tables and the like which doesn't seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. How would I go about making an "area" in flash in which they could load a new picture and a couple paragraphs? Would I have Flash look for a whole html page, or define a picture and paragraph objects that are individually replaced, protecting the formatting/design? Is this possible/a good way to go about it?

I am having newbie problems with sockets. Flash sends data to my php server script fine, and my telnet client(s) all get updated. When I make an entry into a telnet client, all of the other clients update immediately as expected. In Flash however, the only time I receive data is when I press a key within flash.
Example: Press 'a' within Flash, flash traces a, telnet outputs a Press b in telnet, telnet outputs b, nothing within flash Press c in Flash, flash traces b, c, telnet traces c

I have started the vhost setup. I have cpanel on the server and I added the domain and it resolves to
the hosting account just fine pull up www.domain.com and goes to server.
I added the www.domain.com vhost. I pointed the application dir to /home/domain/public_html/applications/
I copied live over to applications dir. I setup user and pass for the virtual host login.
I have a streaming server (for pushing data not video) setup with GraniteDS and it works great. I have to include multiple swf files in a web page. Each of these swf files has a data table which includes streaming data(this is a specific requirement - so I really cant combine all data tables into 1 huge data table/swf file). All the swf files however, connect to the same gravity channel/streaming endpoint.
How many connections are there from the web page to the streaming server? Does each swf file start a new streaming connection? Or do all them share the same connection since they are just connecting to a single channel?
how to properly setup binding between my Locale class and an mxml file.
My main mxml file contains:

I would like to display an empty string in the button's label until the locale file loads. Once the locale file loads I would like to display what is returned by getLocaleString('title').
I think that this is what Binding is intended for however I think that I am approaching it wrong.
I know that I am not allowed to bind on a function. So do I need to allow access (using a get function) to my _dictionary property? What is the standard way to setup Binding for something like this?

This code works perfectly the way I want it to. However, I am having a very difficult time splitting this code up. What I want to do is take the function PlantGrass and place it in another action script file [URL] to help organize my functions and classes. I tried putting the PlantGrass function in the second file, but I can never get it to work.

I'm trying to set up a preload system that can load multiple XML files and manage an overall progress bar but got immediately screwed by ProgressEvents not bubbling. My basic code set up is: Document Class
XMLManager extends EventDispatcher
XMLloader extends EventDispatcher
So document class up an array of xml paths and passes that to the XMLManager, that then iterates through the array and creates a new XMLloader for each path and stores those XMLloaders in another array. The XMLloader goes off and creates an URLLoader that loads the XML. It has listeners for Event.Complete, IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR and ProgressEvent.PROGRESS which is fine.
I'm getting the correct progress data in my progress handler but what I want to do is broadcast that progress data straight back up to the Document Class which I had thought would be where dispatchEvent would come in by doing something like this in the XMLloader class:

how to set up the URLRequest to load an external image to a movie clip that is being used in a Drag and Drop event.
I have successfully implemented the drag & drop code to my design but I would like to improve it by successfully loading external images to those objects that are being dragged around.
I am trying to communicate using this protocol. It works fine except when the socket has a lot of data to return. Right now I am checking if a packet ends with to determine if I have received all the packages. Problem is that sometimes a package can end with as a line break even if it is not the last package, so I can not use that.
I am using a command queue, because I want to wait for a complete response before sending the next command.

Is there a way to know the total amount of bytes/packets a socket will return? Or a way to detect EOF or that a package is the last?
I have an application that called a popup window. From this popup window is called the second window in which data is transmitted, such as an array of strings. In the second box, I can change the data in an array and return the modified data in the first popup window.I've tried:

but of course get an error, because the data send to the main app. how to transfer data in the first popup window from a second?
I have flat data in my app which I will need to group, summarize, and count as I normally would with a sql query. For this project though, it must be done in the flex app. I need to figure out how to group my data by day or month using a datatime field in my Arraycollection, then appropriately count or summarize data in other fields. I've used Groupingcollections before, but only when binding to hierarchical controls (like AdvancedDataGrid and Tree), but I need a resulting ArrayCollection with the grouped and summarized data. Basically, I'm trying to access my AC like a sql table (GROUP BY MONTH(datetime), COUNT, COUNT(DISTINCT(), etc.) and I'm unsure how to do it.
