ActionScript 3.0 :: Setup A Preload System That Can Load Multiple XML Files And Manage An Overall Progress Bar
Feb 5, 2010
I'm trying to set up a preload system that can load multiple XML files and manage an overall progress bar but got immediately screwed by ProgressEvents not bubbling. My basic code set up is: Document Class
So document class up an array of xml paths and passes that to the XMLManager, that then iterates through the array and creates a new XMLloader for each path and stores those XMLloaders in another array. The XMLloader goes off and creates an URLLoader that loads the XML. It has listeners for Event.Complete, IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR and ProgressEvent.PROGRESS which is fine.
I'm getting the correct progress data in my progress handler but what I want to do is broadcast that progress data straight back up to the Document Class which I had thought would be where dispatchEvent would come in by doing something like this in the XMLloader class:
I need to preload 12 images and 12 mp3 files, and the xml file for my text, at the beginning of my swf file.
Is there any fairly easy way to do this? I've searches for tutorials/examples, but can't find anything helpful. Is there a way to preload a folder, where I can keep these files? Or some way to get all files preloaded in the same preload progress?
What I'm trying to do is get the total bytes of all the files I want to load and display the percentage loaded of total bytes and bytes loaded of all the files. Its a slideshow so i want all the files loaded and then it will play. I've looked at bulk-loader but it wasn't what I needed. The image are loaded from an xml file. I think I would need to create an Array and then find out the total bytes but I don't know how to reference the loader in the progress.
I know how to do this for one XML file, but I'm interested in preloading multiple XML files (My data + config settings).
I thought of 2 ways, but I don't think they're very nice programming:
1. Preload the first XML and do another XML.load within the XML.onload. But that way, you get a lot of nested functions if you want to preload more than 2 files.
2. Preload both the XML files at the same time, and use a counter to check if all the XML.onload are executed.

this is how im trying to preload external swf files:
[code]...
i am loading first four swf files from swf directory (page1.swf, page2.swf, page3.swf, page4.swf) - However, I WOULD LIKE THEM TO BE INVISIBLE WHEN THEY ARE PRELOADED TO THE STAGE.. how should i do that.. "fileLoad._visible = false;" does not work
I have an external SWF which i load into my main SWF with URLloader.... that external SWF includes several FLV-movies. I´m not sure how they have been imported to that SWF, probably with FLV component.... but I´m not sure and I don´t have any idea of possible instance names either.....
My question is that can I still create a preloader that would load all used FLV-files into a cache, my goal is that user could start watching videos directly after pushing play button, without need to wait any buffering...
I know all the names and URLs of those FLV-files if that helps..I´m looking for actionscript 3 solution for my main SWF but if someone knows the way to do it with html-wrapper, that would do as well (I´m using SWFobject for html-wrapper)
I'm in the middle of something that's somewhat perplexing. Brief synopsis: It's a full screen kiosk type application with only touch screen control. Sometimes, administrators need to extract large chunks of data onto a USB memory stick to take offsite.
there's a folder on the filesystem with permissions set so that the user that is the web server can access and control it. There are around 100 directories in this folder, each containing around 40 megs of data split into around 10 different files. It's this directory structure I am copying to the USB stick.
Right now, I'm using AS3 to trigger AMFPHP which successfully executes the copy, but it takes about 5 minutes to complete the action, so obviously it needs a progress bar to show state of the copy.
I am trying to eliminate the Loader component from a project. Run locally, the Loader is sufficient to load-up the voiceover swf files that exist on many of the frames in the parent file. On the web, the short download delays at runtime due to the Loader are causing timing issues. I'm not sure if there is a way to preload multiple swfs into specific frames of a parent file so that they are available before runtime.
why the preloader script below might not be working correctly in all browsers? It definitely loads the files properly, but the progress bar does not show in firefox. It just shows a blank screen until the files are 100% loaded, then the enter site logo appears.
I have tried the following things:
1. Using relative vs absolute file paths for the external swfs makes no difference to the behaviour.
2. Changed publish settings to export AS classes in other than the first frame - didn't have any anyway. No change.
3. Unchecked "export in first frame" for absolutely everything. Tried both checking and unchecking this for the actual loader_mc. No change.
I'd post my fla instead of code, but I'm using Flash 8 and can't save any earlier than MX2004 and people don't really seem to look at them that much when I post them. If anyone would like to see, I will upload.

I am trying to make a progress bar to show the my application loading status. I google a lot but it only shows how to use progress bar for elements (ex: images, datagrid). I need to know the progress bar setup for the entire application.
I'm making a dialogue based flash game. When a player clicks the right response I want them to gain/lose points. What is the best way to accomplish this?I'm in need of correct code/script because the way I'm doing things now doesn't work.
The buttons that allow for a gain/loss of points are inside of movie clips and are also on different layers, so I thought using a global variable would allow for editing it anywhere, but when I click the buttons that //should// make the player lose or win points, the value does not change, either that or I get a "NaN" in my dynamic text box.
some code that preloads XML with a progress bar / percentage and once it has done that, reads from the XML file - Because atm, I have a progress bar and it loads etc etc, but then if I do a "preview with certain internet speed" it doesn't load the XML properly?Heres my code:Frame1
In the process of making a pinball game, i wanted to set up a system where a ball would bounce on an object, and eventually come to rest on it. Everything works fine, but eventually the ball just goes through it instead of coming to rest on top of it. I do not understand why this happens, and would like to know if there is anything i can do to fix this. The .fla is attatched.
I have a ranking system set up, and its functional. The movie clips "a"-"d" displays the rank. While the dynamic text box "one" is changing for future reference.
However, I realized that if you got a rank of B, and you replayed the level, and your rank went down, you'd want your better rank to stay in place. So how can I keep the highest rank in the dynamic text box "one", so it doesn't change if you later get a lower rank?
I have a login system set up in flash where people enter an email and password. Hence, there's two text fields and a submit button. This submit button responds to the Enter key on the keyboard. The problem is that if I define those two textfields with tabIndex, the submit button does not respond to the enter key anymore. Do I need to use listeners to fix this somehow?
Never had any problem with loading and monitoring loading progress of external files. Having some problems on monitoring progress of downloading of the main swf file...
In document class constructor: I add listeners to loaderInfo of document class...
I have installed the development media server, played arround with some of the demos and now i'm looking for the possibilty to manage my VOD video files. But i can't find any tool, or informations delivered by the server how much video files are in the vod directory.
im making a little flash game and im wondering if this is possible.. I want to (just because) create one file which contains all the data that i want to load into my flash movie.
say i place all the files/sounds/external swf's in one folder and sort them how i like.. Then i zip that folder and place it on my webbserver.
is it now possible to load in that zip file and retrieve the contents of it using only flash?
it offcourse does not have to be zip format.. i just want that general concept.
I'm new to the group and to Flash coding. I'm working on a proof of concept for work and I am completely stumped. With my limited knowledge and a lot of questions I have been able to get my template working but now the tricky part, it loads from 1 XML file just fine, but I need to cycle through 3-4 files that are identical in format, just different feeds.[CODE]...
I have an array filled with xml files locations. I want to load each one in and then attach the result to a variable, which describes its content, e.g. contact, home, support etc.Is there a wau of doing this with a loop? Also I would like to know the total size of all the files and how much is loaded whilst loading, for the preloader.
I been trying to get a remove child function to it seems to work sometimes at least according to the output window. But the majority of times when ghost hits a flame the flame doesn't disappear.
I have used AS2 for a long time, and have decided it is time to start working with AS3. When attaching multiple movieclips with instance names I would normally do this (AS2)[code]...
