i have set up a data validation file in fmx and when the data is valid i want it to go and play the "preview" frame, but if it is not valid i want it to stay on that frame until the person edits it to be valid. i attached the file and can't figure out why my code is not working.

We are using Hibernate, BlazeDS and Flash Builder 4.0 for Application development. We have a problem in Data validation submitted by User. We have a Employee table. We need to enter the EmployeeId and Name in the form. We need to have two levels of validation. One is to check the user entered proper text which can done by validator components. The Second one is to check whether the Entered Id is already existing or not.
After checking the validation we will insert in the Database Table. For the second one, We have created a method in Hibernate and referring through BlazeDS. Now our problem is, In our Action Script we are passing the entered data into the Method and getting the return value. Depending on this we are inserting. The subsequent code is getting executing before getting the return value. Our code as follows:

I've created a custom textInput componenet that handles it's own validation using a private validator. The validation is enabled depending on the state of the component i.e. validation is enable when the components state is "edit".However, when the state changes from edit the internal validator is set to not enabled but the validation errors on the textbox do not clear - the textInput still has the red border and on mouseover the validation errors come up. What I want to happen is that when a validator is disabled the error formatting and error messages clear from the text input control.
Does anyone have any idea how to do this I tried setting the internal validator instance to enabled = false and dispatching a new focusOutEvent as below but the validation error formatting is still applied to the textInput contrl.

I have a Flash MX Form that sends data to a MySQL DB. I want to be able to validate the field type on input. When someone enters a phone number and trys to use a text chr I want it to display an error.

To make things look nice I decided to use an XML web template as a background to his template. The problem starts from there.The XML web template allows us to add our own SWF files, so I decided to add the swf file of my friend's template.
The swf file was set to "noscale" and when I imported it into the web template it didn't fit properly. So I took the "noscale" off from the actionscript and imported it again. Even then the scaling of the swf file was not correct.As soon as you load the file, it scales towards the left and not center.My question is how can I write a code within the fla file so that when the swf file is loaded it automatically centers itself?2nd question is how can I setup the dimensions of the file as in terms of height and width of the file without getting it cropped. I tried to set it up from 840x610 to 650x430 however the swf content got chopped off (even with noscale off).

I've been making Flash sites for a while and am pretty comfortable with it, including actionscripting, but I have a real estate client that wants to be able to update their site with new roperties themselves. Obviously a simple HTML page would be easiest, but I wanted to find out how this would be done in flash. Most of the examples I see are for linking to xml data tables and the like which doesn't seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. How would I go about making an "area" in flash in which they could load a new picture and a couple paragraphs? Would I have Flash look for a whole html page, or define a picture and paragraph objects that are individually replaced, protecting the formatting/design? Is this possible/a good way to go about it?

I have a single button with the actionscript below but it's not working. If I leave the input field blank it passes, if I put a correct or incorrect code in the input box it fails.

I have a Flash web app which displays user submitted PNG files. Files are uploaded to the server via some API prior to being displayed. I'd like to make sure no "bad" files are served to Flash, where "bad" is entirely unspecific. Is there a way to validate PNG files against the PNG specs (this would catch corrupted files)? Or any best pratice on dealing with untrusted image files? I only need to handle PNG, so JPG, GIF etc. support is necessary. Language mostly does not matter, though I'd prefer Python solutions. This is on a Unix webserver.
View 1 RepliesI am having newbie problems with sockets. Flash sends data to my php server script fine, and my telnet client(s) all get updated. When I make an entry into a telnet client, all of the other clients update immediately as expected. In Flash however, the only time I receive data is when I press a key within flash.
Example: Press 'a' within Flash, flash traces a, telnet outputs a Press b in telnet, telnet outputs b, nothing within flash Press c in Flash, flash traces b, c, telnet traces c

I have started the vhost setup. I have cpanel on the server and I added the domain and it resolves to
the hosting account just fine pull up www.domain.com and goes to server.
I added the www.domain.com vhost. I pointed the application dir to /home/domain/public_html/applications/
I copied live over to applications dir. I setup user and pass for the virtual host login.
I have a streaming server (for pushing data not video) setup with GraniteDS and it works great. I have to include multiple swf files in a web page. Each of these swf files has a data table which includes streaming data(this is a specific requirement - so I really cant combine all data tables into 1 huge data table/swf file). All the swf files however, connect to the same gravity channel/streaming endpoint.
How many connections are there from the web page to the streaming server? Does each swf file start a new streaming connection? Or do all them share the same connection since they are just connecting to a single channel?
How can I install flash player plugin (version 8) in browser without downloading setup or redirecting to macromedia site if flash plugin is not available in browser.

This code works perfectly the way I want it to. However, I am having a very difficult time splitting this code up. What I want to do is take the function PlantGrass and place it in another action script file [URL] to help organize my functions and classes. I tried putting the PlantGrass function in the second file, but I can never get it to work.
for some reason the hitTest I have setup in the attached file seems to work in relation with the blue box's that surround objects and not with the actually objects. Anyways I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the border.

I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

I am developing a online game with flash mx , MS SQL 2000 and asp. The problem is I send the data using sendAndLoad method to asp file and get data back from asp file. But when the internet connection is not good there is a problem like jam or lost packets. How can I prevent the lost of packets. Some of the data are important. Is there any way to solve this?

What I like to do is to get what's in [title] tag using HTTPservice, import it into Flex, and save it as array objects, and do the same thing for [content]. This way I can later refer the array object saying title[0] or content[2].

Is it possible to pull questions from a data file into flash without having to create new frames for every question. This would be a multiple choice test. We currently hand type the questions into multiple frames and grade at the end.

I am seeing repeated comments on this discussion forum that it's not possible to save data from Flash into a locally stored XML file . . . but there must be a way to do this. Why is you can read data from a locally stored XML file but not update or add data to it. how absurd a design would that be, it simply wouldn't be logical!
