ActionScript 2.0 :: Three Main Keyframes - How To Control Loop Function

I have a flash piece with 3 main keyframes/story ("story1", "story2" & "story 3") that cycles (and loops) from story to story, and 3 buttons that stop the cycle and take you to one of the stories

So on my first frame I have:
_root.mainMC.playing = "true";
function playOn(frame) {
/gotoAndPlay(frame);
}

Then on each keyframe I have:
stop();
setTimeout(this,'playOn',2000,"whatever the next frame is")

Then on button I have:
on (press) {
_root.mainMC.playing = "false";
gotoAndStop("story3");
}

I think somehow I have to have the button clear the function because for example, if I am viewing story 1 during the cycle and click 3, it goes to 3 and then quickly goes back to 2 and then stops on 3.

I have multiple movie clips on 4 labeled frames of my movie. The keyframes are as follows : People, Place, Portfolio, Possibilities

The buttons to go to each of these keyframes work, although because I have a movie (different for each keyframe) I cannot get the previous movie's audio to stop when I click to another keyframe.

Also, I cannot get the other movie to work once I am on the next page.

The movieclips are named- Btn2 -which is the movieclip that plays once clicked on the homepage. Btn3- which is the movieclip that is supposed to play once clicked (on the people page).

give it some time to load- then click the doorbell- let the movie play for a little bit then click on people...the door closes, but the sound continues.

i know i've done this before! i have a swf. 4 labels. a stopat frame 1. i embedd this into my main timeline. i have 4 butons inan MC in my main project, going to specific labels in my maintimeline, where i have the following code, attempting to load theswf and jump to that label:

this.container_shell.loadMovie("interact01.swf");
interact_shellb.gotoAndStop("label1");

its not working. the swf loads, but i can't jump to thelabel

ive figured out timeline transitions, and timeline based preloaders......so now i have a problem.....i have my MAIN swf file that i load all my pages in externally ( external swf files )....when i click a button ( for example ) my "about us" button - the transition begins....i have a keyframe with the following code on frame 40 ( inside a movie clip named "pages" in my main SWF where all the buttons/transitions are ):

I will try to explain this as easily as i can.

I have a holder swf called holder.swf

Within this i am loading in external swf files. Each externally loaded swf is put into each frame of the loader page.

I have created a string to navigate through the timeline when either next_btn or prev_btn is pressed.

The probelm im having is that in one swf file there are two buttons which determin which way the story goes (eg. with pressing yes_btn goes to section2 with no_btn go to section2a)

How do i communicate from this externally loaded swf to affect the main timeline of my holder swf.

I'm trying to control my main.swf through a loaded .swf.

My goals are. 1. load the external swf into main.swf and have a movieclip in the external swf play. (the movie clip in the external swf should play without any code, however, when the external swf loads, the movie clip goes to the last frame of itself for some reason)

2. I have an "X" button on the loaded.swf itself that should dismiss the loaded swf and cause my navigation on my main.swf to reappear.

Here is my loader code in main.swf:

As of now, my navigation in main.swf does reappear when the "X" in the loaded.swf is clicked, but I need a way to unload the currently loaded swf when the "X" button is clicked..

I've tried remove child, checking to see if the loaded child is not null, but that didn't work either...

Variables Within Movieclips That Control Main Timeline?

I built my website on the main timeline with a fade in animation...stop(on the page) and a fade out animation. At the end of this fade out animation i would like it to call upon a variable to know what page to go to next.I am trying to tell my main timeline to gotoAndPlay a frame based off of a variable within a movieclip(about_mc this movieclip contains another movieclip which acts like a button(factsheet_mc)) that i have set in my main timeline.I set the variable with:

var buttonFrame; in the first frame of the main timeline

then within my movieclip i have another movieclip which tells my main timeline to play the out fade and remember a variable:

this.onRelease = function(){ --------"this" meaning the movieclip factsheet_mc------------ [code]........

I have a mc with thumbnail images ('thumbs_mc'). Within 'thumbs_mc,' I have mc instances that change alpha on rollon and rollout. When clicked, these mc instances also control the main timeline. That's all good and working fine.Now, however, I want something over each thumbnail to indicate which of them is currently active. (I thought about using the same mc for both the mouseover and current marker, but it's problematic since rolling off the mc sets the alpha to 0, destroying the current marker.)

So I figured that I could use another mc (one instance is 'mark_red_btn') and just control its visibility, based upon the where the playhead is in the main timeline.This is what I have in the first frame of the mc that contains the thumbs the mouseovers and the current markers:

mark_red_btn._visible=false;
if (_root._currentframe == "red") {
mark_red_btn._visible = true;
};

Unfortunately, it is not working. The mc 'mark_red_btn' stays invisible even when the main timeline is on the frame labeled 'red.'

I want to have a hidden menu so I have put some buttons in a MC and added it to the main stage but I am having trouble controlling the stage with the buttons in the movie clip. I think I need to reference the main stage some how... parent or something like that but I'm not really sure and don't know where to put the code.

I'm an ActionScript noob so I'll try as best I can to explain what I need to do. I have a project where I need to have a floating window that controls a main timeline. The idea is to have a floating window that can be seen only by the operator. This window would control the main timeline or content on a separate screen viewable to the audience. So I'll be using a dual monitor setup. The controller window would have about 40 buttons on it that would turn items on or off on the main timeline. This seems like a relatively simple thing to do but being the noob that I am I'm not sure how to go about it. I essentially need one flash file, the controller, to talk to the other one, the content.

here is a description of the flash movie.I have a map of the world on the main timeline that is a movie. The map is compiled of buttons that navigate the main timeline to named frames. -Ex. If you click Africa from the world map you are taken to the �Africa� named frame on the main timeline. This works perfectly.At the Africa named frame on the main timeline I have replaced the world map with a large map of just Africa. This large Africa map is a movieclip instance that has script on it to be draggable. This works perfectly.

The Africa map contains little movieclips that blink. I would like the little blinking movieclips to control the alpha of a movieclip (when rolled over/off) that is on the main stage and timeline.

I have a main SWF that is comprised of scenes. I have buttons that go between those scenes at the bottom (prevscene, nextscene). This works well. On the last scene, I have it loadmovienum and it loads an SWF that has a few scenes in it. It also has the buttons to go between those scenes, which works well.My issue is the first scene of that SWF that is loaded in the main SWF needs to have a button that will send the main SWF to the previous scene in it. Of, conversely, I need the buttons in the main SWF to tell the loaded SWF to go nextscene/prevscene.
