How do I call a custom component's public function from the main app. For example, I've got a timer component, MyTimer.In the main app, I want to call startTimer() or stopTimer().In the main app, I've got:

How do I get "close" button to run runFunction() from within component to outside declaration? FxGlobals.topLevelApplication doesn't seem to be working for this.

Kindly check [url]... it is a flash based website, there on main flash file which have all the navigations (menu tab), when user click on any tab its load a external swf according to that tab, that swf has flv player which take videos dynamically, If user click on the trailers tab its load trailers.swf which have the player and the playlist when the user click on the video of the play list its player that video but the problem is that if the video is still in loading process and the user click on another tab so the main.swf load the swf according to that tab but the audio of the previous video is running...
thats i m trying to make a function in the child.swf(trailers.swf) which will pause the video so i will call that function the other tabs, so if the trailers.swf is loading and user click on comedy so that function will pause the video of trailers.swf and play the comedy.swf, So kindly tell me how i will access the function of [url]...

in asp.net, i usually use mc_rect.sequenct,mc_rect.setSequence(data), mc_rect.addSequence() to achieve my goals......btw, can function in mc_rect return out result to main stage?

View 3 RepliesMy first experience is build an aquarium with a lot of fish swimming, and they can be clicked. When one of them is clicked we should receive a trace message saying ("I�m a Fish!"). To do this, I thought that the best way will be:
1- create a document class, named Main.as
2- create a base class, named Clicked.as
2- create a movie clip with a fish.
3- export the movieclip to actionscript. In the mc properties set Class as "fish" and Base Class as "Clicked".
i have a game that i want to put load screen on, which i created a separate class for. first the main class is initialized and in the constructor function, it does an addChild(loadScreen) which places an instance of the loadScreen MC on the stage. within the loadScreen is a "Play Button" that when a user presses this button i want it to continue startGame in the Main class. the way i tried it was Main.startGame from the loadScreen class, but that obviously does not work. is it possible to call a function from a different class.i have three files:

I have been working on a Flex Mobile application using Flash Builder 4.6. I have 2 mxml 'views' in my project. In one mxml file, i have a function that grabs xml data. In my other mxml file, I have a refresh button that when depressed is suppsosed to call the function in the first mxml file in order to once again grab the xml data. I dont know how to call that function from outside the mxml file it is housed in. [UPDATE #2]* I thought I should share some more details about my issue.

I Have a flashmovie thats almost done and will soon hit the internet, but I want to add some animations into the website it�s two gears that I�m about to put at the bottom of the page and when a button releases in the main flashmovie the two bottom gears will turn a few frames and just stand still.These three movies are all separate (main movie, first gear and second gear).
It's a homepage designed in HTML and flash that has this "main flashmovie" in the middle of the screen, the size is about 1500(width)X800(height). And the gears is about 800wX200h placed at the left and right side bottom of the page. Dont worry the site is easy to apply to any screen resolution.I have been looking everywhere for any soul out there who suffering from the same problem but no success. Is it possible to script a button in the main movie to launch two separate movies in their own contents?
I added a website preloader in a separate scene to the main frame of my website and scripted it to go to and Play the main scene or frame of the website when finished loading. I then put a command in the first frame of the main scene for the movie to stop (); at that point. The problem is that now the buttons on the main page don't respond to any behaviour commands to go to and stop at other frames in the main scene. I'm not sure if this is a conflict between the stop(); command in the main scene and the button behaviour command to go to and stop at another frame or an error with the way I'm identifying the scene and frame.

View 11 RepliesI have a site that I'm working on that I am loading an external swf page into a main one. The main one is based on a totally liquid state and stretches the background to fill the browser and the components are relatively position based on browser window dimensions.
Now inside of the main swf I load an external swf through the loader command. This swf has a set dimension and stays centered in the stage.
I am trying to make a button in this swf that loads yet another swf that is stretches the full browser. However I do not know how to access the properties of a main swf from this external one, or if this is even possible.

The problem I am having is that I have a movie clip that uses several main timeline variables, but when I instantiate it, it throws a 1009 type error (cannot access property of null object reference). My understanding of whats going on (and please correct me if I am wrong) is that when instantiated it runs the code on the first frame of the movieclip. However, it is not added to display list yet, so it does not have a root. Thus, all the MovieClip(root).myVar lines do not have a root to look at. Does anyone know of a way around this?

i have a main timeline [one scene] that has multiple movies, one after each other, in different frames. i need the buttons that are placed in a layer below the movies to access various movies in the scene. was really simple in AS2.
it appears that i can get my button to go to the frame, but the movie contained in the frame will not load and or play. [i have 2 frames dedicated to each movie, the second frame, in the actions layer has a stop command]. the following is the actionscript and the errors i am getting.
