I found this news reader on [URL]. [URL] web_appl...s_xml_easybit/ It does pretty much what I want, but I need to be able to add url links in the main text. Anyone know how I can go about doing this?

I want to implement an XML news reader with images and video links( youtube for example) in as3. Does anyone know where i could find and example or at least, how to read video links from an XML file in as3?

I'm using Fuse and wanted to target the dynamic text and or background portions of the headline section.
However, this movie clip is attached to the menu_mc so I'm stumped as to what I should exactly target for the fuse sequence (or any mx.transition/zigo engine based code-tweening process for that matter).

I am trying to make a very simple rss reader to display news feeds. All I really want to do is have a text box display the first item of the feed, wait for a moment, then display the next one. I've been searching around and can't find any decent tutorials on the subject.

As you can see there is a MovieClip in the Library: NEWS_item. The Clip has a textfield and a Imag field(a MovieClip). While the text is passed in the text fields of the NEWS_item Clip there should be afterwords the photos be placed with addChild(imgLoader). But online the last Image appears. What is wrong here?Does someone have experience with xml readers an images ?

I followed Lee's video tutorial titled "ActionScript 3 XML Basics" to create a RSS Reader.It's awesome but I'd like to be able to have a button that uses the links from the XML to go to a site and read the whole story from the feed. If the Text Area component can be used to link to the whole story I'm ok with that too. I just can't figure out what code I need to use. Obviously it's AS3 and I'm using CS3.Here's the code that I have (it's straight from Lee's Video):

I've got the text loading into the .swf just fine, but I have no idea how I can make the news pieces hot to a dynamically changing link that will be changed by them
I am looking to create a horizontal news scroller. In fact I once found one on the web but failed to bookmark it now I can't find it again. I have attached an image of what it needs to look like. It will load text from an external source and have links to the full news story.

i created a flash slideshow with pictures of events and link each picture with its own event (ie. each pictures has its own links to the website). I created the fade in and fade out effect using the class motion tween. With the link, I created a layer with a button that has alpha= 0 (so the user don't see it) and then I used code snippet to make another layer with the action script "click to go to url."
When the slideshow goes to the last picture I made it fade out and the first picture of the slideshow would show up and then the slideshow would replay itself (by default?). My goal is to make a continuous slideshow.
When I tested the swf file, the first time it runs, everything is right. The urls and the pictures are in correct order. However when the slideshow replays itself automatically, I notice that the links are incorrect. In the first play, when I click the picture of the event it would open the url of that event.However when the sldieshow replays, clicking the pictures would only open the url of the first event picture. When I click on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.pictures the browser opens only the link of the first picture of the slideshow.

I've got a PHP script that searches for links in a block of text and converts them to HTML values. The $message variable is then entered into my database using a simple INSERT. So far, so good. Then I have Flash parse the message using XML:

The problem, however, is that my links don't work. The rollover works from the CSS styling, but the links don't actually go anywhere. When I rollover the links, the hand cursor doesn't appear, and clicking only serves to change the color back to the non-hover value.
I'm writing some code in Flash MX 2004 and everything works fine except for the last button (4DSystemsProducts).According to the coding if none of the drop down buttons work it should go to products.php, but for some reason it goes to 4DSystemsProducts.php. All of the other menus are coded the same way and work fine, if I take out that button it works fine,or if I take out button 7 and switch 4DSystems to button 7 everything works.Here is the code to clear up this explanation. I'm almost certain that this is impossible, but I had to ask. One of my clients wants to know if I can build something that can read the text in Flash, kind of like an HTML reader for the visually impaired. The user would be required to have speakers.
It wouldn't have to read all of the text in the movie, just certain dynamic text fields that are in the SWF.
is there a way, anyway, to save a flash file to reader?

It works if I view the website remotely by hitting F12, but it doesn't work if I view it through the website on the server. Why is that? Is it an issue with the server? I also have a guestbook and contact forms on the website, and it takes at least 20 minutes before the guestbook updates with the new entry or I receive the email from the contact form.

Creating a CD to hand out with a pdf on it. i'd like to check for Adobe version or if reader is installed in flash menu (exe) before they're allowed to open it. then have them download latest from [URL] if not installed. seems fairly simple, just not finding anywhere that will give guidance.
View 1 RepliesI needed a personalized rss reader for this site i m building, but i m not familiar with Flash so i used an online tutorial. The resulting file plays nice when i preview it in Flash, but it wont return anything when i preview it in html or save it and open it as a file.The flash itself is made mainly of two white blocks. The first one shows a list of the news on the rss feed, if one of them is clicked, the second panel retrieves the info for that news article and previews it.As i said it works nice previewed on flash but not if saved in html nor uploaded to the server as part of a page.

I created a Twitter Feed reader using a tut fromBy itself, it works GREAT! However when I try to incoroporate it into my fla for compiling into my ipa it doesn't work in my swf. I know that if I compile the twitter reader at runtime with my main fla that it won't work in my ipa because my swf has a class as running in it. But when I try putting my twitter reader directly into my main fla I get nothing! My scene loads but it pulls down no data. Here is my class code that I am using:

Do you know any good solutions for converting a HTML rich text to a paginated book ? I used a CKEditor to let the user input the desired text. Now I am trying to display the content in a Book like environment. Preferably a Javascript/CSS one but Flash is OK too. Thought about jPaginate , jquery plugin. The text can be formatted with 2-3 text styles and can contain images.

UPDATE: I get the impression my question wasn't clear enough so,I am developing a website using asp.NET and I have a requirement to display a pdf file to the user so he could read the file and paging between files.I am looking for an open source plugin that I can integrate in the website. I don't really mind the technology of the component - but I prefer something in flash or flex.My problem is that the web application will run on a computer without an internet so I need something I can download and use without internet connection.
i'm interested to write barcode scaner with flash which would work for any platform that has built-in camera and while scanning wich automatically uses the camera for barcode reading . how to accomplish this or have a guide for this?
