I have a button called thumb01, and it is within a movieclip called allthumbs_mc. Thumb01 is also a movieclip with an image referenced into it. I've done it before where i have added code within the root actionscript, using the method of: allthumbs_mc.thumb01.onRelease = function() {}
But this time it is not working. here is the code. The actual function is a bit wacky i know, but i have tested it with other buttons on the root menu not within another movieclip. I know the function works, that is not the problem so just ignore that. My problem is that the button will not do anything on release. As an interesting side note, i have attached a rollOver and rollOut event to thumb01 which works perfectly even though nothing will work onRelease.
On the about page of my Flash website, I wanted 7 buttons to navigate to various labels. I just finished the first button. I made it while I was inside the about_mc. It worked well but would NOT navigate. I took the button OUT of the Movie clip and made a separate layer on the about page for buttons and pasted it there and it worked perfect. When I made it inside the mc, is there some different code I should have used other than the standard code for making a button navigate to a frame. I built an addeventlistener and a function. BUT they only worked when the button was "ON TOP" of the mc NOT when it was INSIDE the mc. I have a transition tween on the about_mc and therefore the button does not tween when it is on TOP of the mc only when it is inside the mc.

I have a button instanced "howto_weblink_btn" which is located inside a MC instanced "HowTo_maininfo_mc". I would like to write a code allowing me to access this button from the main navigation menu. Here is what I come up with:

It was then that I thought maybe swapDepths only works on movie clips.And so I converted the button into a movie clip. I modified the instance names, etc, and almost everything worked. Everything, including swapDepths, but one thing: the gotoAndStop command.For some reason, when I tested the movie clip (containing a button) out, it removed the splat+score and finger_mc movie clips, as well as stoped the background music from playing. However, it did not go to the next scene and frame as specified by the gotoAndStop command. "s1a2" is the next scene, and "gameplays1a2" is its frame.

I have a very simple problem but I can't find the very simple solution to it. I've create an animated menu with animated movie clips inside to work as buttons. All the main buttons work perfectely but I've got just on button with a sub-menu. On this sub-menu I've placed an invisible hitarea button in order to place some gotoAndStop action. The thing is, it seems to me like this submenu hitarea are underneath something else (even though is the seccond layers right about the actions layers). I've placed a simple trace action whenever the mouse rolls over this area but I get nothing... Am I doing something really wrong? I'm losing all my hair already.

each page is also a movie clip and on release of a button its played. the problem is that when i press another button to play another movie clip 'page' the old content is still there.
Is there a way of reversing the page transition i have used to bring out the movie clip and then bring in the next movie clip.
What action script would i need to make a button in one movie clip goto and play a frame in another movie clip? Im not very good at flash but i've been trying my usual codes but it dont work..

I am trying to move a movie clip containing content via AS3 tween with a button outside of the movie clip. I have achieved this effect on another project by using the following code:

I'm trying to create a movie clip on my my main timeline that has a movie clip button within it that pops up a box in the middle of the site that contains text and links. On Frame 1 I have the Up state, frame 2 the roll over state, and frame 3 my Down State (where Box appears).

I am making an interactive map of the US.When you hover over a state it zooms in and cities pop up.When you click the city it should a page, for now just google.I have the basics for the first state, California.The zoom works and the cities pop_up.However, when you click the city the link doesn't work. The cities are instances of a movie clip, city.I placed them inside the CA movie clip in their approx locations and named them SF_mc, LA_mc, SD_mc respectively.Here is the code.i added some comments.the FLA is attached in zip as well.It is CS5 file but I'm more familar with AS2 so yea.This is the first frame of the CA movie clip, actions layer

In the first frame the cities are not on the stage yet. They are add later when the state is zoomed. SO i thought maybe that is why it not working so i tried duplicating the code on the frame after the zoom where i add the cities and it is still not working...
how to make input text work when within a movie clip? I have a scroll with text and on the bottom i have my input fields, but when i view it it appears that you can type in it but nothing happens... the field from comes through fine though.

The problem I am having is: I have transitions between my pages and my movie clip will animate when it is in the page swf, but not when it is in the main file.
View 0 RepliesI followed a tutorial to have a movie clip work as an animated menu for a website. One of the functions is set up as follows:

So the animated menu is going to a specific frame in the movie clip while the site is going to the appropriate page. What I can't figure out is how to freeze the menu in the state that it goes to with this function so that it doesn't revert back once the mouse rolls out of the hit area. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
okay so what i cant figure out is...(still earning as3)i have these 2 buttons that are nested inside of movie clip........i havent added any code to em yet or nothing....ALL I LITERALLY did was, i have MC-a and went inside it, created 2 button symbols, and tested movie just to see how it'd look but when i rolled over the buttons they didnt work. they dont have roll over/out/press/hit states at all...it acts like its a regular graphic.i took the same buttons, copy/cut/paste on the main stage and work just fine.

I have made a simple site with some simple transitions. each button on my site loads in an external swf file into an empty movie clip.
One of these swf files is a guestbook which works when i dont load it into the empty clip and test it alone on my server (sending in the guestbook swf, html, php, and empty text file)
Now then, when i load in the guestbook into the main swf, nothing happens on the server when I test it - I am lost and now come to you people for advice. It obviously has something to do with being loaded into an empty movie clip that is causing conflict.
