View 8 RepliesI have a content area with dynamic text (title and detail) that changes depending what button a user is rolling over, and i want this text to load from an external file. I have 26 buttons total, so i need 26 different titles and 26 different details to load.
I have looked around and the only solution with the loadvars technique involves creating 26 separate .txt files and loading them all in, then calling them as needed. This seems like a big waste of CPU cycles and time creating each file.
Is there an easier way to go about tackling this? Ideal would be having all the text in 1 file, and calling each identified title and detail as needed.
I'm trying to get an external text file to load into my movie. I read the tutorial about the scrollbar w/ external text file but it's not really clear and it seems somewhat out dated... I'm anxiously awaiting ASDG2 coming out on December 19th. What would the code look like to load a text file called "theText.txt" into a text field called "theField_mc" created with AS itself attached to a mc called "theMC_mc" created with createEmptyMovieClip(); ? I'm trying to do this %100 AS, no instance manually put on the stage.
View 6 RepliesI have slide text (or rolling news) on our news page in flash, it loads data from simple xml file. The problem is caching of data in every browser. It has to be flash news, and the time reader can see a new post is counted in hours, days.how to update the text when page reloads, or better - just after change in xml, without need of reloading?

View 1 RepliesI often use white text which is nearly impossible to see with the default white background for the text editing box. There must be a way to change it, but i have spent many hours looking for it.
View 1 RepliesI have a flash file that I'm trying to change backgrounds for each page. The background itself changes nicely but I'm having a problem getting the background to scale to the stage size. I'm using Greensock's Liquid Area to try and handle it and it does well with a single background but as soon as I introduced more my code choked..

Is there a way to have Dynamic Text non-selectable and not have a white background? Such as a transparent background?
I'm looking to dynamically change text over a colored background.
I am looking for a way to change the background color in a text field, except not change the background color of the whole textfield, just the color behind the characters.
View 9 RepliesI'd like to be able to click on each of the buttons and have the background color change and also have its color name loaded in the dynamic text field. E.g. Clicking the white square would change the background color to white and should also display the text ''white'' in the dynamic text box. I've sorted out the colour changing part with the following code:

I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.

I am colorblind.I need to change either the color of the background or the color of the text on the layers section on the Timeline.I simply cannot read/see what is currently showing.It is a very light blue background with white text and white dots for seeing, locking, or setting the outline color.I need to either change the text color and dots to black so I can see them, or try to change the background color to a dark blue so I can read the white text.Changing the text color would really be my preference. Adobe hasn't been very concerned about colorblindness when developing these products. I can barely make out all the light grey/grey/dark grey/grey stuff.

View 14 Repliesi have a dynamic text field that loads a variable into it (just a simple text file). this text file will be updated on occasion. i also have a movie clip to be positioned below the text field, however i want the movie clip to change position depending on how much text is in the text field so there isnt a large gap and so they dont overlap. is this possible? i tried the following actionscript to adjust the size of the text field depending on the amount of text. textField2.autosize = "center"; however i have no idea how to get the y position of the movie clip to adjust accordingly.
View 10 RepliesStructure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
View 4 RepliesI want to populate a series of buttons from and external text file but unsure of how to do so. Lets say I have 5 buttons. Each one with a Var (Target1, Target2, Target3, etc.). How do I change the text on those buttons from and external text file?
View 1 RepliesI have a dynamic text field being fed html formatted text from an external text file, and is set to autosize vertically (left), works no problem. I have an animated movie clip behind the text field for a background, so the text looks like it's inside a (animated) colored box. How do I make the background movie clip autosize (vertically) along with the text box above it?
View 2 RepliesThis is probably super easy, but it's kind of hard to search for...Basically, I'm working on a site... http:[url]....
index.swf is the navigation, which by default calls forth index2.swf in the movie clip
var l = new Loader(); page.addChild(l); l.load(new URLRequest("index2.swf"));
I want to be able change what external swf is loaded in the movie clip via the URL.So index.swf?url=media would load index.swf with media.swf in the movie clip.
I want to change the color of a movie clip, and I've succeeded with the following code:
var my_color:Color = new Color(mc);
my_color.setRGB(0xFF0000); // mc turns red
Now, this is only the start. What I really want is that the color is changed via an external textfile (or similar).
I've gathered that this is possible with the LoadVariables function, but I can't seem to get it right. Does anyone have a solution for this? I'd also like to know how I should format the textfile code (should it be something like this: "&mc=0xFF0000"?)...
