I have a container with several movieclips in. I added an eventlistener to the container and on roll over i trace the e.target.name. The problem is when i roll over the e.target.name is the name of the container, while when i click the e.target.name is the target of the object inside the container. Anyone know how to solve this?

Flex :: Making MXML Component Report Target Of Click?

Jan 24, 2011

I have a component based on canvas, and within that component I have two images. I have the component listen for a click and when that event occurs one image goes transparent and the other becomes visible. This part works perfect. Now, on clicking that component, I also want to do something to the parent canvas, I already have this working for more basic types (image, canvas, text, etc) but the problem with my component is that the click event has the internal image as the target, so what I want to happen to the outside canvas is happening to the canvas of the component. How do I make my component as a whole the target of any clicks on it?

ActionScript 1/2 :: Click And Drag Any Of The Objects (black Circles In Case) To Their Target

Nov 30, 2009

I am working on a simple "Drag and Drop" deal and I have encountered an interesting bug that I can't seem to track down. When testing the movie, the FIRST TIME you click and drag any of the objects (black circles in this case) to their target (the big rectangle), all is well. However upon dragging them OUT of the target area, the object appears to "fight back" against being dragged. I am fairly new to Actionscript and can't seem to find the answer for this one elsewhere. I'm going to apologize in advance for the messy script.

targetPath(this.movie2);
play();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Defining Target When Typecasting Mouse Events?

Jul 30, 2009

Is it possible to define the target of a MouseOver event being sent to a method if it is being triggered by code and not an actual mouse event? By typecasting a string as a mouse event the receiving function is sent an acceptable value required by it to run. It will then go about executing it's tasks but if it has references to the target property an error is thrown because only the event type was sent to the function and none of it's properties.

ActionScript Code:
private function myFunction(event:MouseEvent):void {
trace(event.target.name);
} myFunction(new MouseEvent("mouseOver"));

Resulting error:
Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
Is there a way to send the target information along with the event when triggering a method in this way?

1. this.ball_mc.gotoAndPlay();
2. _level.ball_mc.gotoAndPlay();
3. _global.ball_mc.gotoAndPlay();
4. _root.ball_mc.gotoandPlay();

However these codes dun work. Is there other way to resolve this besides this code "gotoAndPlay(2)"?

Can't Click The Mouse In New Windows

Sep 20, 2009

how to use flash, which is a daunting task.  To make matters worse, my mouse will not click whenever a new window opens.  For example, the dropdown windows that pop up when you click the corner of some of the tools.  (like the tool to draw a rectangle or oval, etc.)  Icons will highlight when I move my mouse over them, but clicking does nothing at all.  I have the Adobe Post Production Suite, and it does this for all of the programs I have tried so far.  For example, when recording in Soundbooth I can't click the record button or the stop button.  Thus far I have been using the enter button and shortcut keys to get by, but this doesn't work all the time because some features don't have shortcuts. My laptop is a Dell Studio XPS.  It's a little over a month old, and I've never had this kind of problem before.  I tried running the programs while using a Wacom tablet to see if my mouse had gone bad, but nothing changed.  I've searched the forums and haven't found anyone with similar problems.  This really has me stumped. Another problem that I think is related: I can't change the colors of objects in flash.  Whenever I open the color palette and put my mouse over a color, it shows up as gray.  (All the colors show as the same shade of gray.) I've used lots of programs since I've had this computer, and never had anything like this happen.  The only thing I can think of that might cause a problem is that my computer is a widescreen.  This sometimes causes a problem with certain applications because the windows are too tall.
