I've got a text field pulling XML and its CSS. The XML has a few long lines of text it uses as links. The links are long enough to word-wrap in the text field. Now, if you were to select the text, it would only select the words. However, the blank area to the right of the wrapping link is still an active hotspot for the link somehow. I wouldn't consider this a problem if clicking the blank area didn't return the text field to the top (it is scrolling text). It gets very distracting and hard to track where you are in the text.

What i need is to add a "label" before each textfield on the stage. For instance i'm pulling a city name from the XML file,i want to insert the word, "Location" on the stage before the textfield with the city's name in it. Here's a snippet from my code where i'm loading one of the variables into one of the dynamic textfields.

I have text from an RSS feed parsed using AS3 and displayed on the stage in a few dynamic text fields. Some of the text is too long and I would like to limit the text in the field to "x" amount of characters and insert an ellipses (...) character when that
limit is reached. Cannot seem to find any mention of it in the Adobe. Is there such a method or class that will do this?

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... It had a much better text editing ability then the properties panel, seeing as the properties panel does not even bother to allow me to underline text or to highlight and edit a single word in a whole text box. But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.
View 3 RepliesI am working on a file that has a rotating dial, and I'd like the dial to reveal contents of a text field (a link) as the dial points in the direction of the text field. I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.
View 5 RepliesWhen I create a TLF text area that is editable at runtime (which means that it can get a user input at runtime) I set the text direction to the 'right-to-left' definition in both the 'container and flow' and the 'paragraph' sections and set the language for Arabic or Hebrew at the 'locale' setting. I also set the text alignment to the 'align to start' mode. Now at runtime there's a stange thing. When I try to click with the mouse cursor on the editable TLF text-box, it's not displaying the text icon cursor and don't allow me to insert text inside.
But when I move my mouse cursor over the right side of the editable TLF text box, it change his appearance to the familiar text cursor which indicate that if you click here you will be able to insert text input inside. So my problem is how can I make it that only when I will hover over the TLF text box itself, the mouse cursor will be changed to text cursor icon and when I will hover beside its right side, it will remain at the normal cursor mode.
I want to programmatically insert formatted text at the current cursor position in a Flex 4 (Spark) RichEditableText control. I could just modify the .text property But that doesn't allow me to insert formatted text. So I believe I need to interact with either .textFlow or .textFlow.interactionManager somehow? However, TLF is quite complex and I can't find a simple way to do what I want.

Is there a way to test for the word AFTER the keystroke has become part of WriteInOneText.text, without adding a separate button or anything? Here's the code:

View 8 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is to write something in an input field and then it should show up in a dinamic field. I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.
View 11 RepliesI've created a dynamic text field - mediaImportName001 (created , and populated it with the name of a file that I choose to import using a browse button (as3 and AIR).This works fine - I can import the file, and the name appears in the field.
I'd now like to pass the contents of the text field to another text field. But I can't get the contents. If I try to trace the contents of the textField trace("mediaImportName"+thisNum).text - Flash returns "undefined" (even though I'm asking it to trace after the field has been populated).
I use the following code to check that the field really is there and named correctly (the code returns the children):

returns undefined (thisNum represents an increment I use to name multiple clips and text fields, and in this case trace(thisNum); returns 001)
After installing Adobe Flash CS4 and saved some of my files in that application they suddenly can't open anymore!
I've tried to re-install both CS3 and CS4 and none of them will open my .fla anymore :-(
I've even tried to format my entire computer, installed it again but still no luck.
Therefor I have re-coded my entire web-site from scratch once again (pheww!) but I need all the text which is saved in my .fla (or .swf).
We've got a client who wants to update an existing flash course and they want to move all the text from the existing static text field into xml.Is there any way to have flash somehow export all that text?I suppose I could write a function that executes on every frame and traces out the html text of every field on each frame and then just copy and paste that and wrap the xml tags around it...Also, the client wants to be able to make updates without having to know any html. Is the best way to do that to create a little RTE exe that they can use to "page" through the nodes, make their updates and use something like SWF Studio to write a new xml file?

I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this:

What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.
