View 12 RepliesI have a SFW embedded in a PHP page. There is also a div on the page with id="target".I want to access the content of that div (ie: the characters inside it) and hold them as a String variable in AS3. How can I do this?My attempt so far
import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
var myDivContent = ExternalInterface.call("function(){ return document.GetElementById('target');}");
[code].....
Can you extract text from a regular text field and place it in another like:
textfield1.text = textfield2.text.line[3].char[3..5] or word[3..5]
what is the syntax to do that?
After installing Adobe Flash CS4 and saved some of my files in that application they suddenly can't open anymore!
I've tried to re-install both CS3 and CS4 and none of them will open my .fla anymore :-(
I've even tried to format my entire computer, installed it again but still no luck.
Therefor I have re-coded my entire web-site from scratch once again (pheww!) but I need all the text which is saved in my .fla (or .swf).
We've got a client who wants to update an existing flash course and they want to move all the text from the existing static text field into xml.Is there any way to have flash somehow export all that text?I suppose I could write a function that executes on every frame and traces out the html text of every field on each frame and then just copy and paste that and wrap the xml tags around it...Also, the client wants to be able to make updates without having to know any html. Is the best way to do that to create a little RTE exe that they can use to "page" through the nodes, make their updates and use something like SWF Studio to write a new xml file?

View 1 RepliesI'm using an auto complete component and a labelFunction so that user have the ability to search by their name or id. Once the search is completed I'd like to extract the data to a query.
The only problem is that I only need the name or id for the query not both, so I'd like to pull from just the id variable...
Currently if the user types - Joe or if they type - 13
Both would return a result of Joe - 13 via the auto complete component.
I'm using a dash - To separate the results visually. So I'd like to know if theres a way to extract text from a text field up to a certain character in this case a dash.
I have a text box with text in.
how I extract X number of lines?
I am designing a web application in Flex 4 and currently facing an issue rendering advanced HTML tags and entities in Flex 4. All I want to do is basically render an HTML text coming to me something like the one given below:-
[Code]....
I'm developing an application in Flex 3.5 for video tutorials, which uses a lot of Captivate 4 (AS3) videos (>200). In the front end, the user can navigate thorough the videos in a menu structure. In the administration part, the admins can upload more videos and organize them into the menu structure. Since we have more than 200 Captivate videos, we wanted to build in a search functionality into the fronted, which would be based on the text contents of the Captivate videos. The idea is: every time the admin uploads a new Captivate video into the system, an index will be created based on the contents of the video.
My question: how can I extract the text captions of a Captivate video using Flex or rather ActionScrip 3? (I know, there is an Export/Import function of Captivate, but I would like to access those texts dynamically from Flex.)
Is there a way in actionscript to search through a block of text and extract certain sentences for example or pieces of information that match a certain criteria. What im thinking of doing is loading in some data from an XML file and searching through to see if it contains a link and/or an URL

View 1 RepliesI have created a textArea element but cannot display my HTML content. If I just display regular text it works or if I change the textArea element to a RichEditableText element it works fine. Since this is for a mobile app I would prefer to use the textArea element as recommended by Adobe.Here is the MXML code for the textArea. All I get is the border and no content displayed.
<s:TextArea id="myHelp" editable="false" width="100%" height="100%">

I have a text field component that I am dynamically populating with text. The words appear one letter at a time in a teleprinter style fashion. I also have rendered certain words with HTML to make style changes within the text.Now all this works fine, except because the HTML text is larger than the body of the other text, I am losing theteleprintereffect at the bottom of the text field. In other words, after a set amount has been printed, users are not seeing the letters printed out one at a time, but instead just get a printed line of text appear from beneath the visible section of the text window.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to use a dynamic text field to pull in html text that contains a bulleted list. Easy enough, that works. But the bullets dont take on the color assigned to the field. I've tried putting it in the html text and also using NewTextFormat and neither work. Can someone help me. This should be a simple fix, but I can't find it... I just want my text and bullets to both be white.
Simple code below. Using html text inside the flash document and having a dynamic field on the screen named txt. Code should turn text and bullets green, but it doesn't work, only text turns green
this.txt.html = true;
var my_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();my_fmt.color = 0x00FF00; // hex value for green
this.txt.htmlText = "<P> This is the first paragraph</P><BR><UL><LI>Bullet 1</LI><LI><BR>Bullet 2</LI><LI><BR>Bullet 3</LI><LI><BR>Bullet 4</LI><LI><BR>Bullet 5</LI></UL>";this.txt.setTextFormat(my_fmt);
I am trying to implement htmlText for a text component as the returned string is in html format (with the html tags etc). If I put a text=.... i get the full text, but with the tags (which i want converted to html). So i use htmlText=.... and it formats it fine, but cuts half the text from the variable. The text im supposed to get back has tons of html tags, and maybe its cutting it somewhere because of the tag its not able to escape... How do i fix this?
View 1 RepliesI am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

i am working in a flex application, i have an mx text control or I can use whatever control I need to do display the text value, but what I am trying to accomplish is to be able to format that text value with html 'before' it gets bound to the text control.<mx:Text text="{data.combinedCriteria}" width="99%">In the .as file that manipulates the combinedCriteria property of data,
View 1 RepliesIs there any way I can embed HTML in flash? I know I can do this with text boxes but is there any other way I can do it? If not I know theres is the load feature where I can load text from a text file. With the html text box editing, Can i link that to the text file?. As in when you edit the text box with html could i have the textbox's instance name equal to the text file? With this my issue is with the <a href> in one textbox, I would like when i click those it open another text file in a different text box.
Clarification: I have two text boxes in my flash file.One has current products. And the other is the description of the product they select. I would like a way to edit and change the products in the first text box without having to keep using the FLA file. Which is why i am using this code
var myTextLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); myTextLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaded);
function onLoaded(e:Event):void {trace(e.target.data);}
myTextLoader.load(new URLRequest("myText.txt"));
The contents of myText.txt are <a href=(not sure what to put here)> Product 1 </a> But all that does is put it in the text output section in flash.It does not show it in flash. I need help getting it to show up in a text box.That is the first part But the main problem is im not sure how to code the a href correctly so that when i click it, another text file opens in the second text box.So that when a user clicks on a product ,like "Product 1" It opens the correct description text file in the second text box.
It's what this image describes:For some reason, I cannot use bold tags to set the TLF text to bold, even though both the regular and bold fonts are embedded.so that the webpage that embeds this movie can call its function (otherwise the movie itself will be wrapped by TLF).his is not exactly a question since there is an obvious solution to this. Just set the htmlText as something like "<font face='Myriad Web Pro'><b>BOLD</b></font>" and you're done.hs issue is, why does it not render the bold text without the font tag in the first place, if I have already set the font of the TLF text in the PI?
View 2 RepliesI am using html in xml for some names in actionscript and there is ;quot;

var field:TextField = currItem.createH3Black(0, 0, 180, 10, h3Size, h3Leading, font, "Left", _root.white, currItem.name.toUpperCase(), "textItem");
How do I make actionscript treadt the currItem.name.toUpperCase() as html? So that the name shows as HTM with "" . Instead of showing ;quot;

I'm building this flash site for a friend and he wants to be able to edit the contents and maintain the site by himself later on. So naturally, I used a dynamic text field that uses URLloader to link to an external html, dandy. Problem is, my friend wants to use dreamweaver to edit the contents of html (or even just a word document exported as html) and it's just driving him nuts because the text look nothing like that way it did in DW when it's loaded into the dynamic text field (extra spacing and line break popping up randomly everywhere). Is there an alternative solution other then telling him to just edit it in notepad? What if I switch over to XML?

eventClips[i].createTextField("url_txt",9,0,0,250,30);
eventClips[i].url_txt.htmlText = "<a href=""+child.attributes.url+""></a>";
I can't get the text fields that I am creating dynamically to accept html,I have tried .html = true;Am I really going to have to create my own button and use getURL?I am using flash 8, as2.
