ActionScript 2.0 :: Search Through A Block Of Text And Extract Certain Sentences
Sep 7, 2005
Is there a way in actionscript to search through a block of text and extract certain sentences for example or pieces of information that match a certain criteria. What im thinking of doing is loading in some data from an XML file and searching through to see if it contains a link and/or an URL
I have a list of twenty sentences (white characters) that I want to fade in from black, hold for (n) seconds, then fade out to black. I can do this by tweening but can it be done in AS2 in one frame? 1) Sentence one (n=3 seconds) 2) Sentence two (n=3 seconds) 3) Sentence three is slightly longer and would take longer to read (n=10 seconds) 4) ...etc
I'm trying to extract relevant information from an xml in AS3 using text and not a node name as the filter, and I'm not quite getting it. Here's a sample xml:
I would like a search function that would give me to a list of the paragraphs where "Jane", or "Janet" or any other supplied word appears within the xml.
I am working a flash app that will display a block of text into a dynamic text field when a checkbox is clicked on. I have been looking around for this kind of thing but to no avail. I currently have the checkbox nested within two movieclips and need it to display the block of text upon click event in a dynamic text field that is found on the main timeline in its own layer. Ideally I would like the block of text to appear where the text curser is currently in the dynamic text field. I plan to have a lot of checkboxes each containing their own block of text to display.
I have a search and results page that I would like to highlight the keywords that were searched for, in the text of the results. It was suggested that I use TextLine for this, but I am having trouble figuring out how to make it work. I started a simple, compilable dummy application and was hoping someone could give me some tips on how to continue:
A few days ago I manage to modify a code I get from a post here. The file was from tommywizbang[URL]It works fine, but at the end I have the idea of use HTML format to load images on the text block. The idea works fine with static text, but in this code is not working and I'm not sure if it is because of the original AS2...
I am new to AS3 and trying to figure out how to do something. I want to have a block of text that displays a discrete name as one mouses over several buttons. EG: As one mouses over button 1 the text box displays the text "Button One" and goes blank on RollOut. On rolling over Button 2 that same text box displays "Button Two" etc.
I am a noob and really don't even know what tutorials to search for to do this, 'cause I don't know what to call this function.
im tryin to develop a game, and i wanna make a flash and in that i wanna make my letter to have typwriter kinda animation. Like you know in RPG when NPC are talking the letter are going one by one.and also how do you make it so that when any button are pressed then its going to go to the next thing.
I'm using htmlText property for some text, what I'm doing is 3 images aligned to the left, one under the other, and allow each line of text to be next to one image. Here is the html used:
<img src="image1.png" width="50px" height="50px"/><p>First line to be next to image 1</p> <img src="image2.png" width="50px" height="50px"/><p>Second line to be next to image 2</p> <img src="image3.png" width="50px" height="50px"/><p>Third line to be next to image 3</p>
I expect each line to appear right next to the image, but instead of that, when I use the string with textField.htmlText = myString; I get all the sentences next to my image1.png, not each next to their own image. I've tried anything, adding style and putting a height to the p tag, no effect. I'm running out of ideas. This seems rather elementary to achieve, however, it seems very complicate with AS3.
I need the user to type something into a text block anything at all they just have to type something. If they wright something into the text block then the button should be able to play. Here is what I have but it does not work.
on(release) { if(_root.text == " ") { stop// if the text box is just a space // do nothing } else { this.gotoAndPlay("37");} }
We've got a client who wants to update an existing flash course and they want to move all the text from the existing static text field into xml.Is there any way to have flash somehow export all that text?I suppose I could write a function that executes on every frame and traces out the html text of every field on each frame and then just copy and paste that and wrap the xml tags around it...Also, the client wants to be able to make updates without having to know any html. Is the best way to do that to create a little RTE exe that they can use to "page" through the nodes, make their updates and use something like SWF Studio to write a new xml file?
This will parse child elements of the <text-block> but will not work with <ul> as it has its own child elements <li>. I guess this could be accomplished with yet another loop but I wanted to check to see if there was another simpler way.
client decided on a different font (after we finished everything), so i had to go change the font. in one page, whenever i change the font in one text block, the XML-driven lists stop being rendered. they load, according to the trace statements, but nothing actually renders. when i change it back to the original font, boink! everything is just fine. if i delete the text and create a new field... same thing. i finally had to hide the thing and make a new text block in it's place.
I'm using an auto complete component and a labelFunction so that user have the ability to search by their name or id. Once the search is completed I'd like to extract the data to a query.
The only problem is that I only need the name or id for the query not both, so I'd like to pull from just the id variable...
Currently if the user types - Joe or if they type - 13
Both would return a result of Joe - 13 via the auto complete component.
I'm using a dash - To separate the results visually. So I'd like to know if theres a way to extract text from a text field up to a certain character in this case a dash.
I'm developing an application in Flex 3.5 for video tutorials, which uses a lot of Captivate 4 (AS3) videos (>200). In the front end, the user can navigate thorough the videos in a menu structure. In the administration part, the admins can upload more videos and organize them into the menu structure. Since we have more than 200 Captivate videos, we wanted to build in a search functionality into the fronted, which would be based on the text contents of the Captivate videos. The idea is: every time the admin uploads a new Captivate video into the system, an index will be created based on the contents of the video.
My question: how can I extract the text captions of a Captivate video using Flex or rather ActionScrip 3? (I know, there is an Export/Import function of Captivate, but I would like to access those texts dynamically from Flex.)
I have an image file, in *.tif format, that looks like this: As you can see it contains an image along with a lot of text. Is there any way to read my .tif image and extract the text content into a String ?
is there a way i can extract a MC and a text field from flash and insert into MS word? i have to insert it as a picture and text seperately. is there a way to do it?
I've just tried senocular's xml tutorials. [URL] The search query seems case sensitive. How to make it accept upper and lower case characters. Actually i'm trying to make a search by myself by using the same code.
I am trying to create a search field in AS3 to search keywords in a dynamic text field of the same flash movie, where the text is loaded from an XML file.
