I have my text in an xml file, using html text/CDATA, and in my flash file I have this code:

The links are working fine. But when I try to make sentences within a <h1> tag in xml, nothing happens. What do I do wrong??
im tryin to develop a game, and i wanna make a flash and in that i wanna make my letter to have typwriter kinda animation. Like you know in RPG when NPC are talking the letter are going one by one.and also how do you make it so that when any button are pressed then its going to go to the next thing.

I know I can tween it, but I wanted to do it via actionscript. I got it to animate in and come out but i couldn't figure out how to have it hold for a few sec. View 1 RepliesI'm using htmlText property for some text, what I'm doing is 3 images aligned to the left, one under the other, and allow each line of text to be next to one image.Here is the html used:

I expect each line to appear right next to the image, but instead of that, when I use the string with textField.htmlText = myString; I get all the sentences next to my image1.png, not each next to their own image. I've tried anything, adding style and putting a height to the p tag, no effect. I'm running out of ideas. This seems rather elementary to achieve, however, it seems very complicate with AS3.
I have a list of twenty sentences (white characters) that I want to fade in from black, hold for (n) seconds, then fade out to black. I can do this by tweening but can it be done in AS2 in one frame?
1) Sentence one (n=3 seconds)
2) Sentence two (n=3 seconds)
3) Sentence three is slightly longer and would take longer to read (n=10 seconds)
4) ...etc
Is there a way in actionscript to search through a block of text and extract certain sentences for example or pieces of information that match a certain criteria. What im thinking of doing is loading in some data from an XML file and searching through to see if it contains a link and/or an URL

i've list-based components. when i no longer require them, i just use removeChild() method. i've applied setStyle() method to them. i'm a bit consufed, do i really need to use clearStyle() method or without doing it, flash will take them in garbage collection?

how to use setStyle() for style attributes defined for a CSS class, but how can I change compound styles via actionscript? For example, my TabBar uses the following CSS style as part of the selected tab definition:

Most examples of BindingUtils shows how to bind a property (either a public variable or a getter/setter) of an object at runtime.
But how do I go about to bind a property, such as "top" of a component, when it's only accessible via the setStyle("top", value); at runtime?
Should I just create a custom pair of getters/setters to affect the style properties of the UIComponent in question? Seems a bit unnecessary.

I have an issue working with the setStyle() on the modalTransprancyColor property. The module did not run on different variations of hexadecimal code, only one that seems to work is 0xDDDDDD. Anything else, this line of code will crash Flash.

View 8 RepliesI'm trying to make a preloader for a little flash project that involves re-assembling a load of rectangles to make up a pattern.Idea is that instead of the usual load bar i wanted to make use of this pattern that is relevant to the project and have it rebuild it self with these rectangles flying in from the side. So far I have got the tweening sorted using the tween class and staggered the 42 (yes took a little while, probably an easier way so let me know on that also) rectangles using 'setTimeout' so it releases each 100milliseconds after the one one before it. This probably the wrong way to do it but i wanted to check how it looked and this was the one way i knew how to do it.
I want to make it so that these rectangles fly in a complete the pattern once the loading has finished, but on a fast connection I don't want it to rush the animation but for a slow connection I obviously want it to adjust the release time and maybe even the travel speed to compensate.
I had an idea of maybe working out the percentage loaded divided by 42 and then run an if statement to see if that percentage for that segment had been reached before 100millseconds had passed, if 100 had passed then release the rectangle, if not then hold the rectangle until 100 m/s had passed. Not sure if that is the best way to do but that's why I'm looking for some suggestions from more experienced developers.

View 3 RepliesWe are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.
So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?
I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.
I am new to flash and trying to make a simple flash website video intro in Flash CS5 Pro.I have a flv viedo on the stage, under an image with a trasnparent center.I have the video on the bottom layer, the overlay image on the middle layer, and the top layer is my AS layer (AS3).
The video is currently autoplaying when i export.All i want is for it to open my website in the same window as the intro played when the video ends.I dont need a "skip intro button" or anything.I just want it to play the intro when you go to my site, and then bring up the index page of my site after it plays.
