Some Flash components have the method setStyle(style:String, value:Object). I wonder where/if I can find a list of the styles that are possible to use here? I want to change the background alpha of a TextInput-component, but can't find the style-name for it.

What I want to do is the following:
eliminate the default "divisions" between list items; change the rollover color;
Most examples of BindingUtils shows how to bind a property (either a public variable or a getter/setter) of an object at runtime.
But how do I go about to bind a property, such as "top" of a component, when it's only accessible via the setStyle("top", value); at runtime?
Should I just create a custom pair of getters/setters to affect the style properties of the UIComponent in question? Seems a bit unnecessary.
According to the Flash 8 Actionscript Bible, it is possible to set a style that will affect all instances of a certain component class by typing the following code:

A disclaimer says that "[this style technique] will work with almost all of the component classes. However, the following classes will not allow you to set a class style object: List, DataGrid, Tree, and Menu." (ch 29, pg 644)
So why does the following do nothing:

how to change the look of an MX 2004 List component? It took me 3 hours just to learn how to change the colors of the list, but I see no way to change the look of the scrollers or drag bar. I'm loading the XML into a text field as htmlText. The StyleSheet class in Flash only supports a subset of CSS1 which debuted in 1996! and doesn't support list-style-type or list-style-image. I'd specifically like to substitute an image instead of the default disc for an unordered list. If you've had success implementing a work-around, I'd love to hear about it!

I need to know the best method to find an item inside a list (Vector, Array, Dictionary, whatever is faster) of complex type (extensions of Objects and Sprites). I've used "Needle in Haystack" method, but it seems that it isn't fast enough.
E.g. Suppose that I have a collection of Sprites (a pool, in fact). Each sprite will be added to the stage and perform some action. After that, it will die. I don't want to pay the cost to dispose it (garbage collect) and create another (new) one every time so I'll keep the dead sprites in a collection.
Sometimes times I'll call a method that will add a sprite to the stage. This sprite can be a old one, if it is already dead, or a new one, if the pool don't have any free sprite.
One of the scenarios that pushed me to this question was a Particle System. A "head" particle leaving a "trail" of particles every frame and exploding into a flashy multitude of particles... Every frame...
Some times this counts up to 50.000 PNGs with motion, rotation, alpha, event dispatching, scale, etc... But, this is JUST ONE scenario...
At the moment I'm trying to use a Object Pool with a Linked List... Hopes that it will be faster that running a whole Array/Vector or create new instances every frame an let them dye with Garbage Collection.
In a spark list I could use the change event to find out which item has been selected or deselected. The dispatched IndexChangeEvent object has the properties newIndex and oldIndex holding this information.
But with multiple selection allowed this doesn't work anymore because newIndex and oldIndex could refer to indices of still selected elements.
A solution would be to copy the selectedIndices vector to another variable and compare this variable with selectedIndices after a change in selection, but this seems to be somewhat complex.
Does anyone know if there is an easy way two get the index/item a user is deselecting while other elements are still selected?

I am trying to add CSS styles into a XML document which is loaded in flash.So, I am loading the CSS in actionscript, and applying a stylesheet in my textfield.
Now, what tag do I need to use in order to apply the classes of the CSS in different parts of my XML document? I tried using the span class but it didn't work.
I'm very close to finishing the creation of a Flash Event Calendar app but I am having trouble with something I feel should be very easy. I'm adding text to a textbox dynamically based on how many events are on the selected day.
For some reason though the styles are only being applied to the last set of text being added. for example, if there are three events on a certain day, i will list the three events but only the 3rd event will have the styling. If there's 2 events that day, the 2nd event will have styling, if there's 10 events, the 10th event will have the styling. Why are they not all being styled and only the last one?
I'm converting an old Captivate 4, Actionscript 2 GoToSlide widget to Captivate 5 and Actionscript 3.The FLA file of the old widget when opened in Flash has Actionscript 2 code including the following extract sitting at top level of the file timeline. never get called even if I have the component in the stage manually or via AS, but if I add a listener to MouseOver it works, why the ADDED_TO_STAGE event don't work, also I have a problem with the textFormat style if I use
