how to change the look of an MX 2004 List component? It took me 3 hours just to learn how to change the colors of the list, but I see no way to change the look of the scrollers or drag bar. View 2 RepliesI have a custom item renderer which I use for my DataGrid. The DataGrid has specified selectionColor, rollOverColor and themeColor. The Problem is that the custom item renderer, does ignore those colors, and doesn't give any Feedback...
I tried to add the lines:

But with no effect...
Some Flash components have the method setStyle(style:String, value:Object). I wonder where/if I can find a list of the styles that are possible to use here? I want to change the background alpha of a TextInput-component, but can't find the style-name for it.

I have two problems with this code.this.styleSheet is always null when I create an instance of the class. If this.styleSheet is initialized to new StyleSheet() to avoid this issue, then the TextArea instance does not seem to recognize any of the HTML tags that can be used with the htmlText property.
I made a custom LabelItemRenderer, inside it I want to give some additional style to a StyleableTextField. How can I do it without losing inherited styles? I tried different things, but always got an error saying antiAliasType must be set.

I'm trying to extend the mx:Box container so that two buttons sit on the outside of the container to cycle through it's contents (similar to a scrollbar).
I've made a custom component that looks basically
like "mx:HBox->mx:Button mx:Box mx:Button" where the buttons and box are children of the hbox.
How do I offer the user access to the box (say its dataProvider and itemRenderer) through my custom component?
So they just need to write 'local:MyCustomComponent dataProvider="rar" itemRenderer="rar"/>' and my box inside that component can use it?

Is there a way to make a bulleted list in flash with custom bullets? If so, can this be used from within a TextArea in Flex (mx.controls.TextArea) when setting htmlText?
For example:

The list above will render fine when set into a TextArea using htmlText (versus just setting the text property). The rendered text will have standard vanilla bullets. Is there a way to style these bullets with custom images, like you can in standard HTML/CSS?
I want to create a custom list in Flex for an interface prototype. The list is supposed to have an image and 3 text fields. This is what I have done so far, the control displayed is what I want. But, when I click on one of the items, the item does not appear (visually) to be selected. I was not sure how I would implement this.

The code below sets up a List object in the main controller class that uses a custom cell renderer (CustomListCell class). the CustomListCell class creates a Button object for the cell that will be used to delete itself from the List's DataProvider. How can I properly access the parent List object from its custom cell renderer?

I'm trying to make a simple flash application providing interface for taking tests as a high school assignment. One of the requirements is to use an XML file as data source.Now, having a List component bound to the XML file with questions consisting of data such as question body, question type (ie. single choice, multiple choice, open, image etc.) and possible answers (where applicable), I was wondering if I could add some additional data (and what is the best possible way to do so) to each question upon its transfer to the List component.
I am trying to achieve two main goals with this: firstly, to mark the questions to which an answer has already been given, like with such code in ItemRenderer class:

Where data.color would be set whenever the user gives an answer to a question.
Secondly, while at it, I thought of such possibility as a great way to store answers given to particular questions. In this case, the Class of the answer object would have been Object, since there has to be many type of questions (where the answer could also be a Bitmap for example).
I've created a component which is basically a meter (extends skinnable container). The skin to the component contains two rectangles (background and the actual meter). This component receives an arraycollection with the following fields value, max and min(the arraycollection I am passing is Bindable). When I initialize and pass the data to be used to draw It works great (keep in mind - only works the first time). I've created a button that changes the data array and shows the current meter value. Apparently the meter's value is changing everytime I modify the ArrayCollection I've set to be used for rendering.(dont want to say "dataProvider" because it is not a Flex dataprovider, just a variable )... here is the code...

I am using several instances of the same custom component on the same SWF. The component is essentially just a textfield with special sizing requirements. I also have another "wrapper" component that deals with the info from the textfield components. I was initially planning on using the stage index to associate the data with the textfield component it came from. This became more complicated than I anticipated. When I trace from the wrapper i can't get the index of the textfield components. So I got it in the component code and sent it with the info to the wrapper via a custom event. The problem there is that i can't tell which component is which because they are indexed identically. I can also see the component shim as well as the textfield.I'm just really confused about how programmatic components work on the display list.
My main Question. Is there a better way to associate the info with the proper component? I guess that's my only question. Please point me in the right direction.
EDIT2: I created a dummy place-holder component that just draws a rectangle then at runtime replaces it with programmatically generated textfield component.
I have a Spark list with a customItemRenderer that is taking a good 3 seconds to initialize with just 50 items.
I'm using Flex 4.5, my ItemRenderer is already very optimized, using as little nesting as possible, fxg and so on.
Is anyone having similar issues? I've tried almost everything in the book bar going back to mx.
I created a custom layout for a list, to be used on a mobile (android). I used this as example : [URL], using virtualization. Now the problem I have is with scrolling : when scrolling to the bottom of the list, there seems to be always a "bounce back", as if the list would have reached and as if the bounce/pull effect is taking place. But in fact the list has not reached the end at all, in fact I can not even scroll to the last element in the list. When going back from bottom to top, there's no problem at all.
I trace the top and bottom of the Scrolling Rectangle (Rectangle.getScrollRect) and there I can see that when scrolling down, the top and bottom parameters increase, but when releasing the touchscreen, all of a sudden the parameters decrease again with a certain amount, and so never reaching the end of the list. I need to create a scrollable list of buttons. Only vertical scrolling is enough. The main thing is that, the buttons and scroll bar should be custom drawn. One and two dimension of button layout support is needed.

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

I'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.
The language reference says "Name of CSS style declaration that specifies styles for the tabs. The default value is undefined." But, what is the "type" of style that is being used? That is, what style properties can I put in that style definition.
For example, I wish to set the disabledColor of the text on the tab. I couldnt seem to do it. Worse, I haven't been able to find out what I can do!

I am trying to get my Trebuchet font working for several different styles in a single fla. I am using Flash CS5 and AS3, but I mustpublish it in flash player 9, so TLF-text is out. I am really confused and irritated by this.The fields are placed on the stage manually and must be able to handle htmlText.I embed all 3 fonts in the library but it doesnt work. If I only use one of the fields, and therefore only one style, it works great.
