Sep 29, 2010is it possible to create a plain text file with AS3 or AIR?
example: i would like to create a plain text file named "MyTextFile.txt", have it contain text that reads "This is my text file." and save it to my desktop.
another option would be to have the file already exist in a directory, so i would only have to rewrite its contents - assuming that would be easier.
all of which should happen as a background process, without any save dialoge panel appearing.

Sep 25, 2009I have a Flash movie that loads variables from an external plain text file, that a client updates themselves (from a web site which generates the file). A problem occurred when they used an ampersand symbol in the text field. Is there a way around this? I haven't seen a way to escape it that works.

Now I want to display the first part of that text in a data grid. To do so it seems it might be easiest to get the plain text version.

Jul 30, 2009I've been playing with an xml feed for a semi-useful class (which I'll post when it's done)....but I've run into a small problem.The XML feed doesn't send me HTML content, it only sends text. So a node that should read.Url...So I need to work out some way of recreating these links from a text only feed. Before I give myself a headache and attempt to create a class that searches each line of text for "http://" and then searches for the next space in the text, does anyone know if this has already been done? Is there a class out there that can look at normal text and convert bits that are web addresses into links? If not, can anyone think of a more efficient way to do it than searching the text for "http://" and then looking for the next space?

Jan 4, 2011I have a very simple flash program code in AS3, inside this program there is a dynamic textfield html capable. Also i have a database were i will put some information.Each element in the database can be linked to other. For example, this database will contain tourist spots, and they can be related with others in the same database.This interesting spot is near <link to="ramdo2">ramdom place2</link>. And so, so so..The information in the database is retrived by the flash application and it shows the text on the dynamic textfield. I need somehow to tell my flash application that have to be a link to other part of the database, so when the user click the link a function in flash call this new data.The database is a simple Mysql server, and the data is not yet in there, waiting for your suggestions of how to format it and develop the solution.Im a php developer too, so i can make a gateway in PHP to read the MySQL and then retrive some format to flash, an XML for example.

I'm using NoChumps zip library to extract files from a zip. In this library the entire IDataStream is loaded into memory and after that you can extract file entries easily. In cases where the zip is 5 to 10MB there are no problems. But when the zip is 80MB, which many are, 80MB is loaded into memory. This causes the app to crash and run slow on mobile devices. According to the zip specification,
"A ZIP file is identified by the presence of a central directory located at the end of the file, this allows appending of new files. The directory stores a list of the names of the entries (files or directories) stored in the ZIP file, along with other metadata about the entry, and an offset into the ZIP file, pointing to the actual entry data."
Also, I do not have control of the size of zip files but most average is 60 to 100MB. Files inside are ~4MB.

I noticed that every time I click on "Next image", an images is requested from sever. Sample URL is [URL]
So, this URL is exactly what I need, but I don't know how to extract all these URLs from the .swf file I have. I don't have any experience with flash, but I think that URLs should be in the .swf file. I tried "grep '110206os_o_003_T1C1_2pw26' adspage_slider-2.swf", but didn't get any result :(((

Feb 24, 2009After installing Adobe Flash CS4 and saved some of my files in that application they suddenly can't open anymore!
I've tried to re-install both CS3 and CS4 and none of them will open my .fla anymore :-(
I've even tried to format my entire computer, installed it again but still no luck.
Therefor I have re-coded my entire web-site from scratch once again (pheww!) but I need all the text which is saved in my .fla (or .swf).

Dec 18, 2010I want to extract a video from an swf file and make from it a video to load to youtube(I lost the origianl videos).
The swf was created with flash 5-8(not sure which. how can I check if it is importent?).
When I looked at the source(I don't have the fla) with Sothink SWF Quicker I could export the sound but not the video.
What I did see was that the video was without sound(wierd but true).

Nov 3, 2009We've got a client who wants to update an existing flash course and they want to move all the text from the existing static text field into xml.Is there any way to have flash somehow export all that text?I suppose I could write a function that executes on every frame and traces out the html text of every field on each frame and then just copy and paste that and wrap the xml tags around it...Also, the client wants to be able to make updates without having to know any html. Is the best way to do that to create a little RTE exe that they can use to "page" through the nodes, make their updates and use something like SWF Studio to write a new xml file?
