View 1 RepliesI'm building this flash site for a friend and he wants to be able to edit the contents and maintain the site by himself later on. So naturally, I used a dynamic text field that uses URLloader to link to an external html, dandy. Problem is, my friend wants to use dreamweaver to edit the contents of html (or even just a word document exported as html) and it's just driving him nuts because the text look nothing like that way it did in DW when it's loaded into the dynamic text field (extra spacing and line break popping up randomly everywhere). Is there an alternative solution other then telling him to just edit it in notepad? What if I switch over to XML?

I'm loading data from an XML file with html specific tags so I can put all the formatting of the text field in the XML file, my XML looks something like this:

to use string function splice etc. to replace tags with the one which text fields can understand but is it too complex and processing over head is there that reduces the efficiency but i have max control to do changes what i needed. parsing the html to xml and then use this as the text input to text field what about the efficiency and control need to know about from this question. regular expressions .
If you're creating a htmlText field via the createTextField method, is there a way to get html formatting like <b></b> to show up if you are also embedding a font? I'm guessing not, since you can only embed a single font in a TextFormat, and you would have to embed both italic and bold variants too to make it work. Is this true?Maybe I'm better off creating a generic text field on the stage with both bold and italics embedded, and use the attachMovie method instead?This is my code:

I made a scrollbar, but now I have a problem, need to read the number of lines of Dynamic text field and if it is greater than x show the scrollbar and hide if is less. Like this:

I have a site that externally loads several txt files that are formatted with html. They work fine until I go to a certain section within my site, then try to go back to another section and the headlines of the text disapear. Check out my site to see what I mean. Go to home, then news, then press. In the text boxes you will be orange headlines but then go to contact and try to go back to home, news or press....and all the orange headlines have disappeared. View 1 RepliesI'm trying to load an external txt document into a flash CS3 movie, I also have two buttons in order to controll the scrolling feature, I also want to change the size, font and color of the text dynamically as it comes into flash, I have added the variables and such, but when I test the movie, I get no errors, but the text has not changed in terms of color, font, or size, it just stays the same...the code is below

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. View 1 RepliesI'm making a calculator using Flash MX that works the same way as the basic calculator found on windows (not the scientific one). But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.
View 3 RepliesI'm using Flash 8 Pro (if I don't finish today, I'll switch to CS4 Pro/AS2), and I have a dynamic text box and used actionscript to make it scroll. I need to insert images into that text box, but I can't figure out how. I don't know how to get HTML to work in conjunction with it either. I'm afraid that if I change too much, the AS will stop working.This is the code I'm using to make it scroll:

It might be a bit messy, I've only been using Flash for two months, and got back from a one month break just last week, but at least it works. how I can make this work without destroying the scrolling, or will I have to improvise something else? I'm on a bit of a time crunch and just want to get this site finished.
I've set up a dynamic text field and am importing html files into it. The text is visible on publishing, but the images are not, even though if I view html page on its own in a browser, the images are there... so the question is, how can I make my images show up? My research indicates that Flash Player does support <img> tags.

What i'm wondering is, is it possible to load images into this same textfield so they are easily added and updated (like the text is) and so they scroll with the text as if it were all one part?

View 2 RepliesI am working on a file that has a rotating dial, and I'd like the dial to reveal contents of a text field (a link) as the dial points in the direction of the text field. I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.

I'm trying to pull a variable from an ASP page that's pulling it's info from a database. The ASP page has a response.write that outputs &ScrollText = text that comes from the database. The ASP page works fine, but when I try to pull in the variable in Flash, it takes in all the html URL escapes, i.e.: %20 for a space %22 for a ", etc. I've tried using Server.URLEncode in my ASP page, but that didn't help any. I'm displaying this text in a dynamic text box with a scroll bar.
