This is a small banner in an HTML page and I want it to open in the same window instead of opening a new window. I have tried using _self) instead of _blank) but it still opens a new window.

May 26, 2009I am creating a website with a flash menu on each page. I am using getUrl code to target each page but I can't seem to get the pages to open in the same window. If I use '_new' or '_blank' the pages open in a new window as they should but if I use '_self' or '_top' nothing happens.

Sep 19, 2007I am creating a standalone Flash projector in which the user will be able to click a button to view a PDF file, I am using the getURL method to open the PDF file and it opens in my default Internet browser instead of Acrobat Reader, which is kind of expected. Is there anyway to 'launch' to open in Acrobat Reader instead?

Oct 7, 2007I have a menu that navigates my webpage. Say, for instance, I click on the "Home" button, it should take me to the homepage.I want the home page to open in the same window, not another window or tab. So I used this code:

Yet the homepage opens in a new window instead of the same window. Should I be using the "_self" parameter, or something different?

Jul 31, 2003I have a strange getURL Problem under some windows installations. I autostart a Flash-projector from a CDROM. This file contains some buttons with getURL. When clicking on the buttons, the browser starts and shows a HTML-file from the CDROM.But under some circumstances this won't work. We have found some Windows-installations where we are not able to start the browser by calling getURL.I know, this seems not to be a Flash problem. It looks like a problem in the interaction from a Flash projector and Windows.

Sep 20, 2007I have a Flash form sending variables to an ASP script (bono.asp) in order to print a discount bonus. The bonus grafic is then shown in a new window for the user to print with his/her data on it. (name, address, etc). Well, the problem is that it not only opens a new window with the bonus (without the data ), it also opens the bonus in the current window (with the data), forcing the user to "go back" to the flash website and loading the entire animation again. Dec 21, 2006Is there a work around to the getURL Firefox issue? I am having trouble getting Firefox to open my file from my exe when FF is set to my default browser. If FF is already open, the getURL functions fine. If FF is closed, I have to click on my button twice in order to open the file (ie, click once opens a blank window, click again and the file opens) I have FF 2.0.0.1, Flash MX 2004 Prof. I have tried setting an interval to have the getURL fire again but I can't seem to get it to work.

May 26, 2010I would like to open a separate swf file from with in flash, but by default, it opens the swf in a browser. I would like this file to open in a stand alone player not in the browser.How can I achive this? Right now I'm using the getURL() action. Professional :: Flash CS4 Can't Open .fla Files Or Lose Files/graphics?
Mar 20, 2010I installed Flash CS4 Professional trial version for school use. It wouldn't install successfully. I deleted the font files the troubleshooting guide said to, tried again, but gave up. (I'm afraid to run regedit and mess up everything else I have loaded.) (I previously had the Fireworks CS4 trial version loaded, then uninstalled it.) My problem is this- I have it running, but it saves files and then they can't be opened, even if I use the save function often- it's worse when I create the file, test the movie and then save.If I try to open it again, it says "cannot open file." Once it opened a copy I had saved, and it appeared blank, even though it was 544 kb file size. I only need it for a few more days, one more assignment and I'm afraid my previous files are corrupt. I have Windows Vista Home Edition.

Oct 26, 2007I developed a portable video player thats similar to YouTube's video player where you pass a video's info and the video loads and plays. The player can
also be embedded on your own personal site using the embed tags. My problem is this, everything with playing / loading the video works fine. But I've got a link on the Flash thats hard coded to a url and links off using getUrl like so:
getUrl('http://www.site.com', '_self')
Now this works if the HTML and SWF are in the same location (ie both local, or both on the hosting server) but for some reason it doesn't work in the embed mode when the player swf is located on one server and the HTML that's loading the SWF is on another server. XML loads fine, videos load, images load, but the gerUrl does not work...doesn't go anywhere. Also, I've got my crossdomain xml file setup to accept all domains using the * option.

Oct 14, 2009I have an _Xslide gallery that I need to make each photo link to an absolute URL. Works fine on IE but FireFox dosnt function at all. I can get it to work if I "_blank" but then it is applied to both browsers. The requirement is that the gallery function in the same window for all browsers.This swf is hosted in an "included" html file...where the swf does not live in the same directory...although I have tried that also but to no avail.

Jul 30, 2010Been banging my head against this forever. Running a SWF banner running AS2.0. If you view the banner's page with www before it, it works fine. If you visit the url WITHOUT the www the geturl script doesnt work at all.URL...I've tried changing the allow access setting from domain only to always and I changed the actionscript to be document relative instead of a full link and none of that has fixed the problem.

I haven't done anything but switch it to a vertical menu, but the problem is that I put a button in the menu, the 2nd grey box, with a getURL that just goes to google. Mar 17, 2008why a getURL isn't working on a movieclip? The exact same code works fine when on a normal button but not on a MovieClip. Both were on the top timeline and were not embedded within anything. Actionscripting 1 in Flash CS3.

But earlier when I was using Windows XP, this code would open a new browser window (in firefox) and automatically prompt me to log into Gmail account, and after I log into gmail I will have this 'userEmail' successfully inserted in the "To:" field (inside gmail)

Dec 22, 2009I am a Noob to ActionScripting and am having problems getting some movieclips to link to different URLs on release. I am able to get them to animate, and I am able to get them to link to an html page in the same folder, but I can�t get both functionalities to work at the same time and it is driving me crazy!! I've tried putting the actionscript in the instance object, in the action layer, and other things and nothing seems to work!?I believe that the actionscripting needs to be done in the "baners" movieclip, but it could also be the "Symbol 3" movieclip
