I am using the getURL function in response to a button event. I need it to open the URL (absolute) in a new browser window, but I need the new browser window to open on top of the current browser window. Right now it's opening behind the current browser window. Below is my code:

This is a small banner in an HTML page and I want it to open in the same window instead of opening a new window. I have tried using _self) instead of _blank) but it still opens a new window.
I am creating a website with a flash menu on each page. I am using getUrl code to target each page but I can't seem to get the pages to open in the same window. If I use '_new' or '_blank' the pages open in a new window as they should but if I use '_self' or '_top' nothing happens.

I am creating a standalone Flash projector in which the user will be able to click a button to view a PDF file, I am using the getURL method to open the PDF file and it opens in my default Internet browser instead of Acrobat Reader, which is kind of expected. Is there anyway to 'launch' to open in Acrobat Reader instead?

I have a strange getURL Problem under some windows installations. I autostart a Flash-projector from a CDROM. This file contains some buttons with getURL. When clicking on the buttons, the browser starts and shows a HTML-file from the CDROM.But under some circumstances this won't work. We have found some Windows-installations where we are not able to start the browser by calling getURL.I know, this seems not to be a Flash problem. It looks like a problem in the interaction from a Flash projector and Windows.

If FF is already open, the getURL functions fine. I'm working on a kind of coverflow layout and I'm using an XML file to house my links and information about those links. in my ActionScript, I'm using getURL to point to the link the user clicks and open the link in a new window using the following script:
getURL(infostruc[current - 1].artLink, "_blank");
I need to have the new window open up to a specific size (1014x714), but I'm not sure how to write the AS for this kind of action since I'm calling the link from an external file.
I'm trying to open an url when in fullscreen mode, but when using getURL firefox3 is blocking the url..
when I exit the fullscreen mode the links are working,

They are now opening behind and unless the viewer is smart enough to think of it and see the tab they think it didn't open. I use the recommended code. on (release) {getURL ("nameofURL.html", "_blank" );}I'm pretty sure this used to open a browser window that appeared in front of the current one, but now it never seems to although once in a while it may (that was with a file with an htm extension.)

To combat this, I replaced the original files with super-simple .swf files that redirected back to my own websites -- thus stealing back the traffic that they were stealing from me.
The problem came later when something changed with the new Flash player, and new windows no longer opened. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get new windows to open. I've tried a few different approaches, but nothing appears to work.
So what I'm wondering is, can this even be done anymore -- where I can switch out a .swf that's being leeched with one that opens a window to my own site?

I am building a kiosk app in flash and need to open browser windows whenever there is a URL link. The problem is that when the browser window opens, the fullscreen flash becomes a resizable window and the user has to close the window and open the flash app again to make it full screen again. So i'm wondering if there's any way I can open a browser window within the flash app sort of like an iframe or lightbox pop up? I've heard of this Native Window thing but I'm not sure what that is.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to open a new browser window from within my Flash app. To do this, I am using the line:[URL]..The problem is that when I test the code from in Flash CS4 nothing happens! It's like the line of code isn't there. But when I manually open the .html file which Flash CS4 generated that embeds my .swf, then the Flash app opens in my browser and promptly opens a new window to yahoo juat like it should, so it does not seem to be an AS3 syntax issue. I just got a new computer yesterday, with a fresh install of Flash CS4. I do not have this problem on my old computer. The old computer runs the code perfectly. Could there be some weird default security settings at work here in Flash CS4?
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of problem, or any clue what might be happening?
Essentially we just need to embed a flash banner ad that upon click and release of the mouse button the specified URL opens in a new browser window.

Am I correct in assuming this getURL code is not supported by Action Script 3? How would this code or any other be added? And what does "_self" refer to?
I've tried all the tutorials on kirupa, checked out adobe live docs, forums all the works and i've tried 20 different methods to open a browser window with a fixed width and height. i'm using Flash 8 and am wondering if there is a new method for opening a browser window with ixed params. it seems every tutorial i find is for flash 5 or earlier and none of them work. and i've tried opening them both in firefox and ie. the standard getURL _blank works fine of course...i just need to adjust the window size to scale to an image.

Currently, mailto will close out the flash site and navigate to a browser-based email client. What I'd like it to do is open a new window which it would use to open the email client, instead of using the same window (which closes out the flash site to open the email client).
