wondering if you can give me a hand; I am constructing my portfolio on CD ROM; On the ROM I have various formatted files (such as Acrobat, Quicktime and Powerpoint) that I would like to access via my simple Flash MX interface. As I can't pull all of these into my swf, is there any ActionScript for my interface that can let me access these files?

Click on Button A for example, which opens Project A in a separate window. All of my projects are Mac or PC projectors.

I've tested it with about 5 different file types and it only seems to work if the url String begins with "http://". Even local htm/ html files don't open.

Can I import files from other apps into my app? If I for instance on iOS, I email myself a xml-file, I click the attachment in the mail-app. Now I want the "open in" option to show up, send that file to my app, and process that data there. Is this possible in flex/as3?

I added a link in the html page to an external JS file, when I move the JS function to the external JS file the website crushes.
I would prefer to have all my JS functions on an external file so I can use them in the future in other project and it also makes it easier for me to update the site.

I have a site that deals with large video files (sports videos). The site allows users to upload any source file, but most of the videos come from DVDs. I am currently using a modified version of jumploader to encode and upload files to the webserver with an HTTP request. The jumploader is a java client, and looking at my webstats, only about 75% of my users have java installed.
What I want: I have looked for a flash based uploader that transfers a byte stream to a server. Byte streams would be ideal so I can capture partial videos for failed uploads. I have also looked for flash-based ftp clients, but I haven't found anything promising. There are some flash-based uploaders that post via HTTP, and I'm considering this. I do not want to use a simple file post. Some upload methods also put the full file into memory first, and this obviously is not an option for me.
A work partner is using Flash CS3 on a Mac. She sends me her .fla files for me to edit which I cannot open.I'm using Flash CS4 on a PC.Is there a simple way to fix this problem; it's driving us crazy and really slowing down development. I haven't had this problem before working between PC and Mac formats...
View 5 RepliesWhat I want to achieve is to be able to be running a .swf file that I've coded using actionscript, and to click a button in there and have it bring up my computer's finder window (or the my computer/documents/whatever you want to call it on a windows) so you can bring in a file from on the computer. If that's a bit vague, I want to be able to add music to a library (like iTunes) .. Basically. All I want to know is if it's possible to open a file from outside the swf and put it on the stage.
I'd also like to know if it's possible to... save (for lack of a better word) the files that are on the .swf so that the next time you open it they're still there.
I was using Flash MX 2004, but I thought it was time to update so I got Flash CS4. All my old files work when working in Actionscript 2.0 but then when I try and open using AC 3.0 everything dissapears but still remains selectable. The is no old actionscript in the file at all, so I thought maybe it somthing to do with the movieClips.

I am using Chinese /Japanese text in this Now the problem is that when i run it in the flash it loads those pages and when i load it in the browser then that file doesn't load anything.

View 1 RepliesI am brand new to Flash and I am completely unsure on how to diagnose and resolve the problems I am having.I am in an online program through the Art Institute and I am currently taking a course to learn the basics of Flash.I am running Flash from CS4 on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 and I am having problems opening some of the .fla files that people post. One of two things happens, either:
(1) when I try to open the .fla file I get an pop-up alert (below) and if I click OK the file doesn't open (and clicking OK is my only option, as you see);
(2) I go to open the .fla file and it appears to be opening but then the screen is blank and I get two error reports in the Output pane which says:"VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override of isRelatedObjectInaccessible in .RemappedMouseEvent.ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable_ e9a7 52f233536079fc4486d6ac92a1b05a633a5657d5b83ad7fac2246298 b191_flash_ display_ Sprite is not defined."I tried installing all available updates for Flash and that did not solve it. Im always encountering this same bug since I got Flash CS5 everytime I open multiple files on Flash, my instance names lock in this case I have to restart flash and pray the instance names wont lock up again... It's really getting annoying because I could be working on up to 10 files at a time which forces me to individually open each file everytime I start my project.

View 4 RepliesI've had Flash CS4 (a legally purchased single-user licence) since the day it came out and used it practically every day without any major problems. Today I opened it up to carry on with some work, and it crashed. I had a whole host of other stuff that was open and updating at the same time, so I waited until that was done, then I tried again. It crashed. So I rebooted, and tried again. It crashed. Slightly panicked, I uninstalled Flash CS4, rebooted, re-installed it, and tried again. It crashed. Panic giving way to anger, I googled the issue, and this time uninstalled, with 'Remove user preferences' checked, went through my Windows system and manually deleted any associated files in my Application Data folder, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, and tried again. It crashed.
I have now just downloaded the Adobe CS4 Cleanup utility and run it, but after twenty minutes hanging at the 'Removing all session folders' screen and no processor activity I could see, I quit the program. By the way, this script shows "External Interface is available" when I run it in my browser. Its only when I run it in Flash Player 10, that it is not available.
I've got a SWF with buttons that are calling a javascript function using External Interface - specifically the Milkbox photo gallery. For various reasons, the page with the embedded SWF has to work online as well as being run from someones local machine. The online version runs fine on every OS/browser. However, I've run into a snag where, for some reason, the local version isn't firing the javascript on Win XP in any browser.Is there perhaps some snag with using External Interface locally on an XP machine, or is there something else at play here? FYI, no problems at all on Vista/any browser.

I have created a peelback advert that peels down from the top right. All is well apart from it it obstructs the user ability of the site underneath as the peelback advert is effectively over the top. I have been giving some guidlines to stop this but i am struggling to understand them. The instructions specificall say that the file must be set with the transparent parameter.

I have a navigation menu set up using standard jquery to load new body text and play a swf. There are about 10 links, each having there own body text and swf file. The swf's simply play, then stop after about 30 frames. When clicking through each menu item, a new swf plays and body text appears. I've been running into a problem lately with IE not reloading a swf. Instead it stops on the last frame of the swf and appears as an image. I was told to try using the external interface so jquery can force it to reload. I've never used the external interface before though, how to do this?
View 2 RepliesSeveral months ago for a project at work i developed a video player using flash, external interface and swfobject.js. I used external interface to facilitate communication between javascript and actionscript. This works great. Currently I am working on an extension to this that requires me to extrapolate logic from what i already written. I am using the same swf file in both applications, but in the extension i can't get the flash object to recognize my calls. Since i am using the same swf object i know that my problem is in the javascript, i just don't know where. I am using the JQuery Library. Without further adieu here's my code.
