I am using the tutorial on: [URL] and I am wondering if it is possible to put a dynamic text box on that page, and when you initally load the page, it will give the hex value, and when you rollover the "new color" that dynamic text box will change real time.

Need to play an FLV video or swf that has que points that grab someone's name from a database and puts that in a dynamic text field and at the end of video sends out a code back that tells the server that the video has been complete. My code guy knows PHP MySQL and Javascript if that will help.
I'm pulling in an xml/rss feed into a Flash ad. I wont post all the code. I'll just post an example bit where the problem is. What I was hoping to do is once I have my feed pulled in from the source I need to force the text I'm pulling in to be in all caps. View 7 RepliesBasically, my whole website's going to be in Flash, but I want to be able to update one page (sort of a news/blog page) without having to edit the Flash file every time. I'm assuming the easiest way to do this would be to set up either a scroll pane or a text box and pull the text in from a .txt file. That way I could continue to add on to the .txt file, and Flash would always pull in the current version. So, my issues are:
1. I have no idea where to start with the code for something like that. Is it a LoadVar? Do I physically put a scroll pane or a text area in the frame and put the action on that, or do I put the action on the frame and have it call up a text area component?
2. Will the text scroll automatically, or is that something else I would have to add in? I plan on adding to this text file for awhile, so it could end up being a lot of text over time.
3. Would I be able to format the text in the .txt at all? For instance, if I hit enter to put in a paragraph break, would that register once it's pulled into Flash, or would I have to put in an html paragraph break or something? That may be a dumb question, but as I said, I'm not exactly fluent in ActionScript (or any other programming language for that matter).
Currently i am experiencing a problem with pulling Movie Clips from a Library and Tweening it (adding) it to the stage at runtime and then quickly removing it (addChild()) and removeChild(); I have 6 Library items, which i am interested in using.

My Question:
1) The name is not genereted through the addChild metho, is there an temp Add solution or something that would add on the Fly?
2)The object when working as a single object, gets Tweened out to -200, i just want it to Tween out and get Removed form the stage?
3) The Movie Clip remains on the screen while another instance is brought on when using static naming convetion (this is just to say that i have tested it),I only want the object to be available for the Tween, nothing else
I'm going to be creating a kind of fake RSS feed scrolling on the bottom of my webpage, and I want to be able to have it read data from a .txt file, so I don't constantly have to go into the flash file on a daily basis and make new swfs :P
View 3 RepliesI know how to create a scrolling pane that pulls in text. I test my methods by creating a text box with text, the convert to movie and make sure the Export to Actionscript is check and then on the Scrollingpane just make sure the target has the correct movie name. If I do this in a blank document everything works but in my Flash project it does not pull the text from the text box and I have no idea why. Has anyone experience this before. I just cannot find out why it works in a blank document and not in my flash project. I tried attaching my flash document but it does not fit.
View 1 RepliesI'm using an old open-source mp3 player (musicplayer.sourceforge.net) on my site because the visual design does not clash with existing colors, etc.The author provides two versions of the player. (ea also has the fla file in case I want to modify it for a different swf) One allows the user to pick from several songs stored in a simple text playlist, and the appropriate album cover is displayed during playback. The other is a "slim" version that is just for playing one song at a time. In the first player,the artist's name (pulled from the playlist) is displayed and then the song title scrolls across while in play. Some additional basic text is stored in an accompanying actionscript 2 file. I have no trouble with this version. The slim version is supposed to do the same thing. However, it continues to marquee text of the player author's name regardless of what I change. I replaced text strings in both the actionscript file and the playlist but the player doesn't seem to extract them.

View 6 RepliesI have a flash site (scene 1) with scrollable text fields. I want to create a separate (popup) flash page in a completely separate scene (scene 2) that will open in a new window from a link within scene 1.
In scene 1 there are various frames within the timeline that contain scrollable dynamic text (information) that will occasionally be updated.
I want a popup window to open scene 2 and contain the updated information from scene 1. In other words, I don't want to have to update both scenes to display the same information.
There are actually several frames that contain different information in each and I want all the information to appear in scene 2 in a stacked order as dynamic text so that users can scroll through all the pages from scene 1 without having to navigate to other frames.
I have a few text based pages on a site i am trying to build which contain dynamic text (contained within a database, which can be changed from elsewhere). These are loaded into a dynamic text box of a fixed size that fits within my page. This all works great. I have created two scroll movieclips (which act as buttons, one for up, one for down) which when clicked cause the textbox to scroll up or down as relevant. These work fine as well.
The problem i'm having is I only want the scroll buttons to appear if they are required (ie if the text within the text field is larger than its height so you need to scroll to read it all), but i cannot work out how to find the height of the actual content (as opposed to the height of the predefined dynamic text box). I can obviously create the textbox as autosized, then find it's height, then compare it to the desired height and (if it's larger) manually change it's height and display the scroll buttons, however i cannot imagine this is the most effective way to do it at all?I'm sure there is a standard, logical way to do this but i cannot seem to find any reference to it online or in the forums, but maybe because i'm searching for the wrong thing?
I am currently trying to modify a hangman game I found on here (URL...). I'm not very good at actionscript and hopefully this will be a good exercise to learn more - I really want to learn how to make games. I have seen hangman games that include clues for words, but the only games I can find that I can read the source in don't have a clue field, and pull the words from an external .txt file. Is there a way of also pulling phrases to be as clues from these files? I could just create another .txt file and make it a new variable, but of course I would have the problem of it not matching the word. I hope i made sense.

I'm trying to print an MC that is on screen with a dynamic text field in the MC - its printing just fine but the placement of one of the elements is off. Basically I have a dynamic text field centered on the stage, however when I print it, the text field moves to the very right on the printed page, while the rest of the contents of the MC stay centered. To clarify on the printed page I basically have this nice page with centered text, but the dynamic textfield is moved all the way to the right of the page.

I will setup up the first few products then they will do the rest. Would I wanted to go with dynamic text and empty movie clips loading the images? If so how could I have this create a duplicate page that refers to the new text and image?

i'm trying to build a flash site and ran into a problem... i have a gallery page with a bunch of page numbers at the top. when you click on one, a movieclip loads of some images coming in.so the problem i'm having is that i made a little animation for when you roll the mouse over the page number (they scale up when the mouse is over, scale back when the cursor moves away)... what it's doing is when you roll over, it goes to a certain frame in the timeline and plays that animation.that's all working cool, but i need it to not do that once it's clicked on. so basically when you actually click on a page number, the over script should stop until you go to another page... here's the code i've written,

As far as I know theres in no way to cahnge the alpha of a dynamic text box. I put one in a movie clip and when i try to change the alpha of it everything else in it changes its alpha but the not the DT box. Could someone plz verify for me that u can't change alpha and help me find a component that allows alpha control with a dynamic text box. thx in advance.

All was going well... but then I changed my code from value1 = "password" to value1 = password.text; and the php instead of coming back with the user's password, comes back undefined. WHY WHY WHy, does it except it when I say value1 = "password" and not with the value1 = password.text; (and 'password' is the instance name of the input text... (not using flash vars)

I want to have the mini text box load new external text files in the main text box. For instance, I have a button for music, which loads a list of songs in the mini text box. I want to be able to click on the name of one of the songs and have it load the lyrics in the main text box. I'm sure it's simple, I'm just new.

I'm trying to pull a variable from an ASP page that's pulling it's info from a database. The ASP page has a response.write that outputs &ScrollText = text that comes from the database. The ASP page works fine, but when I try to pull in the variable in Flash, it takes in all the html URL escapes, i.e.: %20 for a space %22 for a ", etc. I've tried using Server.URLEncode in my ASP page, but that didn't help any. I'm displaying this text in a dynamic text box with a scroll bar.

These text fields contain text drawn in from a simple xml document. The problem I have is that the text in the text fields is hedged right next to the border of the autosized text box. This makes them look untidy and in the worst case difficult to read. View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.
