In other words, if today is th 24th of December then I'd like the dynamic textbox to say "merry christmas" or something like that...HOWEVER I need to set this actionscript up so that it reads 8 different days and the dynamic textbox holds 8 different values. How do I do this? I'm having a LOT of trouble with this..and I'm on a deadline

View 2 RepliesI have been working with this script for a few days now and have gotten to a near completed point, but I can't seem to script the final step. I have an xml file that is being parsed into my .fla file. There are 3 buttons which are dynamically created based on a tag called <navItem>. The function 'displayContent' should be displaying the appropriate chunk of xml in various text boxes, but instead, it only displays the last chunk (the 3rd chunk) no matter which button I click on. I am populating a textfield with text from XML files. I am wondering what the best way is to handle positioning the TF based on the number of lines of text. So if there is only one line, the textfield's 'y' position might be 100, but if there are 2 lines I want it to move to say 80.

Images embeded into existing video and animated. New video produced for download So far I have looked at Flash Media Server, Flex etc but not sure what the best tool is for the server side production of content. I know I can produce the custom MXML and AS files based on content uploaded and using the Flex SDK I can render these into a SWF. What I don't know is if There are limiatations to this in the context of what I want to achieve For instance can a product like Flash Media Server do something similar.Transcoding is also required hence the interest in FMS.
View 1 RepliesI can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:

Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).
I have 7 icons on the left side (vertically) with two stationary phones on the right side of the movie clip and all of the icons has its own different URLs like differentiator.aspx?point=1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7). If I click one of them, the animated phone appears on the right side, but the problem is how do I display the content of page from each icons on the left side? Its like two onClick events at the same time; one to play the "scene" and one to change the content of the page.

I want to generate a mc for each rep with 6 text fields containg the 6 values for eash rep.So for this xml there would be 3 mc's with 6 text fields in each. This is one of my first times really diving in to xml parsing in Flash.
I'm building a calculator in AS 3.0. On frame 1, the user inputs data into the input text boxes and hit's the "calculate" button (also located on page 1).The calculations are displayed in the dynamic text fields on frame 1but aren't appearing on frames 2 and 3. Anyone know how to get the calcs to show up on frames other than where the calculation button is located?
View 7 RepliesI am attempting to dynamically display a series of questions with answers in my flash movie from an existing ASP page. Initially, the dynamic questions imported from an ASP page appear on the Flash page (question 1, 2, 3, etc.). When the user clicks on a question, the flash movie advances a frame and displays the answer. I can display the questions properly, but I am having a difficult time carrying over the question ID to the next frame so that the appropriate answer will display.
The current database fields look like this:

-Question
-AnswerID
-Answer
This is very simple to do in ASP or PHP but I am having a tough time trying to tie everything together in Flash. Should I create two separate ASP pages, one to query the questions and one to query the answers? How do I carry the QuestionID to the next frame in Flash?
Basically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.
I've been working on this catalog system for awhile now, and have it working almost perfectly. But one problem still remains...
I'm dynamically loading content (jpgs & text) into a scrollpane from an xml file. It should display an image, and then below it some associated text. My problem is that when the content loads in, the first jpg isnt visible. I'm pretty sure its there because all the other jpgs load. What I think is happening is that the scrollpane is displaying the text below the 1st jpg at the very top of the scrollpane, which leaves the jpg above the scrollpane and thus not visible.
When I first started this catalog. I was loading the content into an MC I had manually created and was attaching to the scrollpane via attachMovie. I had the same problem as above in this scenario as well...and to correct that what I did was make a box that went around the entire are that the jpgs and text loaded into. This allowed the jpg to show up.
But now that I'm dynamically creating both the holder MC and the textfield, I'm back to losing the 1st jpg image. It seems to me that the scrollpane needs something above the jpg holder MC for it to be displayed.

The repetition of the recorded words is very much correlated to the social , and psychological monitoring research I need to accomplish. The web based chat is not my own, so i don't have any administrative privileges over the server.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to populate a set of dynamic text fields with text using a for() loop and cant seem to get it to work.I have 9 seperate dynamic text boxes each labled picNum0 - picNum8. I want to read a number of pictures from an external file then have those numbers populate 1 through 9 into the text fields.I get the variables loaded in with the correct values but the text fields wont populate.[code]When I trace(curPic) inside the for(){} it outputs: picNum0 - picNum8, so I know that the variables are allocating ok, but dynamic text fields arent populating with the correct numbers.

What I'm doing is that I want to create textfields using flash and insert them into my HTML portfolio site.The reason I'm doing this is to be able to use special fonts, kern the text properly and customize the anti-aliasing. I tried with CSS but I don't have enough control using that (regarding kerning and anti-aliasing).I have created a Flash file that can load specific .txt files into the textfield of the SWF (so that the text becomes formatted), using FlashVars. I discovered that kerning in Flash doesn't apply to dynamic textfields unless you set it using actionscript. So I've tried to use the following code on my textfield:

I'm populating dynamic text fields within (timeline) animated movieclips. For some reason, this only works with the first movieclip even though the rest are formatted identically. I'm getting no errors.I can load other nodes into this MC so I think the XML and the code targeting the nodes seems fine (tracing the node values works as well).
The problem seems to be with the target movieclips, however I cannot find any differences in their settings compared to the one that is working. AS and XML below:

I would like to have some dynamic content on the pages... I want to use it for a website. The problem is, when you click anywhere on the page, it reacts. I tried putting an MC over it to override it, I tried removing the Mouse listener temporarily... I'm not too advanced with AS, but I thought I'd give it a try... Well I just can't figure it out.
Is there any way that I could make it so that when the mouse is in a certain area and is clicked, the pages do not react like they should? With the dynamic content I'm going to need scrollbars and stuff and that just isn't going to work unless I can do this.
