how do you find an object's index / position within an array in flash actionscript 3? I am trying to set a conditional up in a loop where, if an object's id is equal to the current_item variable, I can return its position within the array.
After chatting with my coworkers, they have suggested I enumerate this into a large array of indexed values with references to which index they are associated with, for instance [code]...
I'm trying to build a function that finds max-value in array of numbers and returns index position of the value (in AS.3.0)I already have this.....but it is not helping me finding the index number.[code]
Long story short: I want to search a multidimensional array in AS3 for (in this example) the location of 6 strings - all of which are stored in another unrelared array. Long story long: Once I get the locations (in the multidimensional array) of each string, i then know where it's located, and can access other atributes of that object - so if i found the string "box3" is located in element [5] of my multidimensional array, i can now target: multiArray[5][3] to return the 4th item stored (keeping in mind we're starting from 0, so 3 is the 4th position).
I can get this to work once, but I'm trying to set up a for loop based on the length of my basic string storage array - this array holds (in this example) 6 instance name strings - each time my for loop loops, i need to run a search in my multdimensional array for the next consecutive instance name. Then, once I've located all of them (and store the results in a new temporary array) I can dig around in each location for the info I need.
ActionScript Code: var str:String = "this is better than what is better."; var pattern:RegExp = /this.*better/gi; var results:Array = str.match(pattern);
I want to search in a string from word1 to word2 and place all the results in an Array. So this should be accomplished using match().However the above code would return " this is better than what is better" while it should return "this is better". So the output takes the last match in the line, but I want it only to output till the first match in the line.
This object is ok, and shows up correctly in debug mode. The problem is I have a country name i.e. private var _country:String = "Angola";, and I want to get the corresponding value 'AO' from the XML object. Do you know how to do this?
I have tried loads of Livedocs examples, but cant get it to work. P.S. I am working on a HtpService & WebService driven app to display global weather conditions overlayed on a Google Maps interface. Going to make it available to the Flex community when finished.
I have a function that finds the smallest five numbers out of an array of values and returns their index numbers. Here's a block of code from that function[code]...
The whole thing is slow, but I imagine that indexOf() is probably the worst offender. Is there any more efficient way to correlate a series of minimum values with their indexes without having to use indexOf()?
The values don't necessarily have to be stored in _elements, but they're pulled from a multidimensional array so I figure that it's the most efficient I can get at the moment.
I have used a method to shuffle a part of a Array, but i noticed that it does not work very well.When i run this method I sometimes get empty array values.So if you would try the example below and test it out some times you would get a right result but sometimes a wrong result.For example when i run this i get in my trace output:
a,b,c,d,g,,e,f (here after the g it goes wrong) a,b,c,f,g,d,e (here it goes right) a,b,c,d,,g,f,e (here it goes wrong)[code]...
I'm working on my website which is a portfolio site, to showcase my work I have a basic XML image gallery which does 1 of 3 things loads a large photo, goes to a frame with a video player, or goes to another frame with a gallery of web design or flash work i've done. when a thumb is clicked i trace the indexOf(event.target) of the thumbnail clicked (all thumbnails are placed into an array).
the problem is that for some reason randomly the index will not be found and return -1, but then other times it will find the correct index and work properly. i don't know what the inconstancy is thats causing this to occur
The content of the array respuesta is: Africa, Europa, Norteamerica. The content of the array resultado is: Incorrect, Correct, IncorrectI created a Array to include both of them:
var contPre:Array = [ this.respuesta, this.resultado ]; and then: for ( var row:int = 0; row & lt; contPre.length; row++ )
How should I go about creating a search function that will be able to search and retrieve a particular nod from the array.Sth to do with .toLowerCase() and getIndexOf? The search function should be able to search and retrieve any text that contain the letter/letters... not the whole word. Like for example if user enter "gre", it should retrieve results containing "great" and so on.
I thought that there was a way to be able to name array indexes. Like instead of myArray[0], it could be myArray["tileFour"]. I thought that instead of using index numbers one could use index words.
I have a game map made of tiles, each tile is stored in an array called _tiles.The very each tile has a "plantable" parameter, which determines whether or not something can be placed on it.Then i loop through the array and check the position of each its elements against the mosue cursor, so I know which tile am I hovering with my mouse.
And it works pretty good. The problem is that even though I know what is the position of the tile I'm having the cursor on, I still lack the knowledge of what index is that tile. I simply can't tell where exactly in the array is placed this tile. I just know its position. The reason why I want to know the index of it, is because it's the only way for me to set a proper flag, namely whether it's plantable or not. Here's the code:
Is there a way I could specify the index of a array using this short code:[code]How would I go about giving a custom index name instead of it being myArray[0]? I could do it the long way like posted below, but I was wondering the there was a way to shorten this:[code]
Is there a way I could specify the index of a array using this short code: Code: var myArray = new Array("teste"); How would I go about giving a custom index name instead of it being myArray[0]? I could do it the long way like posted below, but I was wondering the there was a way to shorten this: Code: var myArray = new Array(); myArray[myCustomIndex] = "testing";
You see, I would like to make a login page that retrieves the username and password from a text file. All login information is stored in an array, which looks like this:& Users =::: Name1 | username1 | passwords1 |::: Name2 | username2 | passwords2 |::: Name3 | username3 | passwords3 |I want to find in my arrayif the user is authorized. If it is authorized, I would like to send the name (Name1, for example) into a text box. How do I do?
I am working on an application in Actionscript 3.0 that is working with twitter, I got as far as getting the tweets I want in an array but now comes the hard part: I only want to show the tweets that mention another twitter user. Now I know that mentioning another user in Twitter always with an @ (like @username). So I want to show all tweets with an @ in it.
I have a small array with some elements and a big array with all the elements. I want to search in the big array the small array to see if they exist. Is there a function to do that ?
Alright, so within my final swf I need to have a function that searches, but not searches the internet (such as integrating a google or bing search). It will be searching though data that I have already collected. My data is in the form of CSV (comma separated values). I already load in the csv and all that jazz, no problem (using url loader). I put the data into an array. I can conduct the search in a few ways and I was wondering what everyone in the forum thought would be the best way. The data also gets attached as parameters to objects that I put on the stage, if that matters.It must return all things in the array that match the string typed in the search, and not just the first match it finds.
So i need to search through a multidimensional array.. here is an example of what the user will see when searching the array
First name: Last name: grade:
now what i wana do is make it so the user can search through the multi/array with the first name to find the last name and grade that goes along with it... here is my failed attempt.
ActionScript Code: var dataArray = new Array(new Array(), new Array(), new Array()); var tempArray = new Array(); var eMode = null;
