I am trying to figure out how to proceed. Obviously this is a christmas project. The user will be presented with a text input to see whether their name is on the Naughty or Nice list at the North Pole. I would like to randomize which list the users name appears on. And perhaps give them an option to redeem themselves, by doing something "nice" if their name shows up on the naughty list.

I'm planning to make a game that gives players the choice to search a word when selecting a character, and if that word is found, they get to play as them. I don't even have a clue what, where and how I am gonna put the list in the game for something to search it. I'll try to give an example:
A user puts "horse" into the input field, presses the "Search" button, and Flash searches the word "horse" in a list of maybe 30 or so words. If it returns no results, a message says, "keyword not found". If it is found, a picture of a horse comes up in the character preview box.
how to populate a list box component located within a seperate mc in my swf with an array... the array comes from a response from a webservice call. I am not currently on the computer with my source code available so lets just use the following....
listdata[i] = the array i want to populate the list box with..... (listdata1, listdata2, listdata3, listdata4, etc. etc.)

This is ok if there are small number of items in a list box. I'm trying to populate a set of dynamic text fields with text using a for() loop and cant seem to get it to work.I have 9 seperate dynamic text boxes each labled picNum0 - picNum8. I want to read a number of pictures from an external file then have those numbers populate 1 through 9 into the text fields.I get the variables loaded in with the correct values but the text fields wont populate.[code]When I trace(curPic) inside the for(){} it outputs: picNum0 - picNum8, so I know that the variables are allocating ok, but dynamic text fields arent populating with the correct numbers.
View 3 RepliesI save my (embedded) fonts in an external file (fonts.swf) that gets loaded at runtime. Pretty standard. I also use a bunch of UI artwork generated in the Flash IDE. Some of this artwork contains static textfields (thus, not proper TextFields that can change. Just frozen glyphs). Here's the problem: if I use the same font in any static textfield and then embed that same font into my collection of runtime fonts, the runtime font will refuse to render. It's the same effect you get if you set a textfield with embeddedFonts=true to use a font that isn't embedded. If I change the static textfields to use a different font, the runtime fonts work just fine.

View 2 Repliesthe last of many problems, is that at the very end of the test, you're shown your score, and you have the option to type your name in a text box and click "save". Doing so will apply you score data (time elapsed, date, correct answers and percentage) along with the name you typed in, and output in a form, that you can save or print off, or whatever. The problem is, the input text box will not let you type in it. If you mouse over it, the mouse stays a pointer, you don't get the text tool. If you click on it, the cursor appears for a split second after you release the mouse button, but you cannot type anything in it.This is the actionscript for the output form:

I'm trying to get creative and come up with a solution to tables and flash. I would like to change the information in the textfile weekly and it be reflected in the website.
I have a text file with about 1000 rows of data and about 100 values (separated by spaces) in each row. What I need to do is to load the data into Flash into a separate array for each row of data, but am not sure how to get started. I will no doubt have to name each array dynamically as I don't want to hand code 1000 names for arrays!

I need to sear ProductDetailsAll for records having CategoryID 1 or 3 based on user selection. How is the CategoryID passed from Flash to the web service?

Despite adding: source="myScript.as" (that basically feeds the main.mxml file)
to my TitleWindow component MXML file (which I instantiate from the main.mxml file) the variables defined in myScript.as appear to be null hence I can't populate my text fields in the title window, even though those variables work fine in the main.mxml.

I have 2 keyframes on my timeline.The first keyframe has an input text field (instance name: inputTxt) and a button (instance name: btnTester).When the user clicks the button it takes them to the second keyframe where their text should be displayed in a dynamic text box (instance name: txtBox).I get a null value in keyframe 2.
