Actionscript 3 :: Flex Dynamically Loading Images Does Not Allow Images' Id

Oct 20, 2009

I need to load dynamically a few images (4-6) so that by clicking on particular image user would invoke particular action. Embedding images solves the problem but at the expense of file size. If I load them dynamically, they lose their ID.

<comps:ExercisesScroller id="scroller" x="300" y="100"
ex1="@Embed(source='assets/Exerc_1.png')"
ex2="@Embed(source='assets/Exerc_2.png')"/>

and so forth this works. But instantiated in CDATA it does not work:

Flash - Load Images Dynamically From Library Not Externally?

Sep 7, 2010

Trying to load images dynamically from library NOT externally since i want these images to be loaded when the site is launched. Basically i have several buttons, each button returns an event that throws a specific image name to grab. Here is the function;

function sendDisplayData(e:MouseEvent){
display_mc.displayName.text = e.currentTarget.parent.menuItemName.text; //name of image eg. "myImageName" in the library;
//create the image object

[code]....

So how can i make this function dynamic by using a String and then grabbing the image related to that string from the library.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Resizing Dynamically Loaded Images In Flash

Dec 28, 2005

I've got a client who's asking about resizing dynamically loaded images in flash. basically i'm building him a button that displays dyn. text and loads a .png based on a variable (easy). I'm going to tell him that actionscript/flash really has no means of resizing a loaded image and that you need some type of server-side script to do all of that.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Preloader + Dynamically Loading Images?

Dec 14, 2010

I'm using TLF text, so there's a RSL involved. I get that there's a way to include the library in my own code, but I'd rather not do that unless there's no other solution.

In Advanced Action Script Settings > Preloader Method, there's a choice between "Preloader SWF" (five black dots, the default thing) and "Custom preloader loop". My first question is then how to use this Custom preloader loop thing? What is it referencing? Do I have to write a special thingy somewhere? What?

And I already made a simple "bar filling up" kind of preloader, which I'm testing by using the aforementioned "Custom preloader loop" setting and simulating download. (My project no longer compiles when not simulating download [VerifyError: Error #1014: Couldn't find flashx.textLayout.container::ContainerController class.] which led to the conclusion that I'm doing something wrong here.) It does fill up, but it starts at about 60%. From my earlier badly worded Google searches, I think my problem is that I am using a bunch of external .as files which are loading before the preloader. Is there any way to tie the .as files later, or something?(That, or my preloader actually takes up 60% of the project's data, which would surprise me but isn't impossible because it's still very bare.

I'm making a game and I'm sorta kinda using tiles to render the map screen. So I have a bunch of sprites on screen, for which I created a Refresh() method that I call whenever necessary. In this method, I use a Loader object to load desired bitmaps (which aren't in the project's Library), then add this Loader as a child. The main reason I did it that way is because I could then reference the images to load with a string, and so include arguments in there.

(I don't know if I'm clear, so let my try to be more descriptive. I basically have an array containing the map data. I'll read that array and pass some properties as arguments to my Refresh() method to draw the screen correctly. I'll then be able to load the image ["sprite" + arg1 + arg2 + ".png"] by using that string to create a new URLRequest (and then use that in the Loader).If I understand the way this works correctly (and I probably don't ), I'm downloading the images all over again each time I call Refresh instead of having them "cached" somewhere, which is inefficient (because they're tiles and I'm reusing them multiple times). Am I correct in that assumption?

I thought the more "efficient" way would be to import my tiles in the project Library and export these for ActionScript. (They're PNGs, so they inherit from BitmapData.) My problem with this method is that to use these images, I now have to instantiate a class, so there's no string involved, and so I can't concatenate variables with a string anymore to fetch the right PNG to display, which is really, really annoying.

So I'd like to have the best of both worlds: cache images while still being able to refer to them with a string. Is that possible? And more generally, what's the "right" way to dynamically render images in the context of a tile-based map?

EDIT:public vars vs. getters and setters I have classes with properties. I've gathered that it's good programming practice to declare these properties as private vars and then define getter and setter functions to access them. It's easier to just declare these variables as public and move on. What are the pros and cons of both methods?

Actionscript :: Dynamically Loaded Images Not Displaying Properly In Flash

Mar 10, 2011

I'm creating a banner advertisement in Flash. It pulls all information from an XML file. Images for each product are also loaded externally. Everything is working fine except for 1 thing.

I have an image separator i'm using as a background for each product container to lend a bit of separation to each product. But when I try to add it using code it's only added to the last item. Doesn't matter if it's 10 items or 2 items...it's only being added to the last one and i'm not sure why. Anyways, i've zipped up the associated files and put it on my webserver. I'm using the Tweener class and have included that in the archive as well.

Here's a link to the archive : Project Files

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Masking Dynamically Loaded Images Within A Movieclip

Dec 10, 2011

I am loading images into a sliding menu which will act as a thumbnail viewer, the structure of which is: "thumbsContainer" (movieclip) nested inside "galleryPane" (movieclip). The images are loaded into movieclips named "all_thumbs", which are added to the thumbsContainer stage.

I would like to mask the content of the thumbsContainer, so that only the images physically within the thumbsContainer border will be viewable.

I have tried adding my coded mask to the thumbsContainer stage, and tying it to the thumbsContainer; and have separately tried the same with the all_thumbs movieclip - but no matter how I organise my code, I can't get this to work. If the mask is tied to the thumbsContainer mc - that element disappears; if the mask is tied to the all_thumbs mc, only the background to the thumbsContainer is visible. Either way, I cannot get thumbnails to display through the mask. No thumbnails at all will display on stage.

Code:

all_thumbs.addChildAt( thumbLoader, 0 );
c = c + 1;
if ( c < totalPics ) {
all_thumbs.alpha = 0;

I am building a portfolio site which dynamically loads large hi-res images when the user clicks on a thumnail. However I'm having problems maintaining the original image's quality when resizing it to fit the current browser. Currently I'm just adjusting the width & height properties of the image to width to the stage proportionally which is working fine getting it to fit, however I cannot figure out how to maintain image quality? Do I need to load it as a bitmap and redraw/smooth or something similar?[code]

Flash :: Assigning Icons To A ComboBox's List Using Dynamically-loaded External Images

Feb 5, 2010

I'm trying to implement this for an instance of ComboBox specifically, which uses a List to display the dropdown menu full of items. Lists can have icons associated with them, as described in the documentation:

var comboBox = addChild(new ComboBox());
comboBox.dataProvider = new DataProvider([{label:'item1',iconClass:IconClass1},{label:'item2',iconClass:IconClass2}]);
comboBox.dropdown.iconField = 'iconClass';

... assuming IconClass1 and IconClass2 are valid classnames of symbols in our library, this code works perfectly.

Here's my question - the contents of this ComboBox will be XML-driven, populated dynamically, and I'd really rather include that icon reference as a filename instead of a classname, so that when the whole thing is implemented, the icon can be changed in the XML without opening Flash and adding a new symbol to the library. Clients aren't generally good at that sort of thing.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to find a way to reference the container for the instance of that icon class - the ComboBox.dropdown is obviously keeping a reference to each list item somewhere, and if I can find it, I can load the icon images dynamically, then addChild them to the icon instance.

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FLASH 8] Transitions - Dynamically Loading Images That Stay On The Screen For X Amount Of Seconds

Mar 17, 2006

I am using an external actionscript file, and I have dynamically loading images that stay on the screen for X amount of seconds (the user can set the value of x), then it loads the next image. However, this user would like for there to be a transition, For Example, have it fade out and have the next image in line fade in after the image has been displayed on the screen for X amount of seconds. This user would also like a loading bar, much like the one on the flash banner here: [URL] between each image transition.

I also have it so when someone hovers over a button, the flash banner stops, once they rollout X is reset to 1 and starts the counter again, and sets the movie to play at frame 1. Here is the actionscript file: [URL]

Dynamically Loaded Images Are Pixelated?

Aug 8, 2011

I've tried to look up solutions to this, but I'm not exactly sure where a quality=best or smoothing=true script should be placed. And I'm equally as puzzled as to why only some of my .jpgs are loading pixelated? This is very frustrating, this is the code I'm using to load my images:

ActionScript 1/2 :: Dynamically Load Images?

Aug 23, 2009

I've been playing around with a demo version of a PHP Flv streaming player from rich media project. I've been able to setup my player to play flv videos dynamically by passing an id from the database to the swf file (works great).

However I cannot for the life of me work out how images are loaded dynamically. The player uses the filename and adds .jpg as the extension to load the image file when the player starts. Problem is my image name will be different to the file and so I need to pass a variable in the same way I am passing a variable for the movie name.

// skinID=1// Instance names and linkage identifiers were set with '_1' extension//myPlayer.skinID=1;myPlayer.skinPlayer=true;
var passed:String = video;myPlayer.movieName = video;// Init isFullScreen and zoom varisFullScreen=false;zoom=1;
// Set scaleMode to noScale and align top leftStage.align = "TL";Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";

Flex :: Images Will Not Dynamically Refresh

Apr 23, 2010

I am writing a Flex application to receive xml from an httpservice. That works because I can populate a datagrid with the information. The xml sends image pathnames. A combobox sends a new HttpService call onChange. This repopulates the datagrid and puts new images in the folder that flex is accessing. I want to dynamically change the image without changing the pathname of the image.
<mx:Canvas id="borderCanvas"><mx:Canvas id="dropCanvas">
<mx:Tile id="adTile"><mx:Image></mx:Image>
</mx:Tile></mx:Canvas></mx:Canvas>

This is my component. I assign my Image sources using this code:
var i:Number = 0;
while ( i <= dg_conads.rowCount){
var img:Image = new Image();
img.source = null;
img.source = imageSource+i+".jpg";
adTile.addChild(img);
i++; }

My biggest problem is that the images are not refreshing. I get the same image even though I've prevented caching from the HTML wrapper and the ASP.Net website. The image automatically loads in the folder and refreshes in the folder but I can't get the image to refresh in the application. I've tried
removeAllChildren();
delete(adTile.getChildAt(0));
And neither worked.
