ActionScript 3.0 :: A TextField Will Obscure A MouseEvent?

I'm using the drawing Api to create a shape on the Stage; I'm then pushing the shape to a sprite object and applying a mouse event to the sprite. I'm generating a textField dynamically (over the sprite), and setting its selectable option to false. Everything displays all well and good, and you can't select the text, but the mouse event will only trigger in the space between the textField and the sprite.
In As2, a non-selectable field would basically be ignored by the mouse, but that seems to have changed? Is that true? If you guys want to see the code, I'll have to make a sample without the 48,000 classes that are involved, but I thought I'd ask in the meantime in case this is some simple As3 issue that I'm unaware of....

I am working on a project that uses PHP, AS3, and AMFPHP. The project allows users to upload and download images among other things. Since I am fairly new to PHP/FLash security I have been trying to gather as much info about making things as secure as possible. I've got some good advise about using .htaccess files, and a few other tricks.
My main question at the moment is how to hide the "path" info from and to the PHP / assets / and to and from the AMFPHP services ... Currently I have all the paths hard-coded in one .as that returns an object with the paths to any of the other classes that need/request it. I found this method to work well since I only need to change this one .AS , and it will branch out to the other classes that need it.

Right, so here's the scenario: I have 4 objects, A, B, C and D. What I want is that C obscures A, but not B. Similarly, I want D to obscure B, but not A. A and B can overlap each other in any order, it doesn't matter.In other words, what I want is an object (C) to be able to cover one object (A) but not another (B), even if it comes into contact with it.Same with D, which can cover B but not A, even if it comes into contact with it. The problem is that I can't think of a layer configuration that allows this: D will always be higher than both A and B, and thus will obscure both.I'm not expecting anyone to come up with some unfathomably clever configuration, but I'm wondering if there's some kind of ActionScript that can do this. In particular, I would like A and B to be dynamic TextFields, and C and D to be MovieClips of any shape (i.e. not a rectangle).

I have several stage event handlers to enable mouseovers over several dynamically generated moviecilps on the stage that then change their alpha to indicate the mouse is over that particular mc... fairly trivial (mcOver handler). Additionally, I also want to know what MC is clicked, so I update a public variable (public var activemc:Number) with the ID of the dynamic movieclip when the mouse is over it (using a hitTest to check, which is why the EventListener is added to stage and not to the MC), which is checked in the mcClicked handler:This is in the constructor:

//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDrawing);

However, the mouseover behaviour (alpha 0 when over, alpha 1 when out) stops working as soon as I click on any movieclip on the stage, and the mcClicked ID checking (below) stops working completely. I don't know if this is to do with focus:

I then tried adding the event handler for the stage mouse_move again and this gets the mouseover working again but only for 1 more click, after which it stops again:

I have a MovieClip (call it base_mc) which is under a bunch of other MovieClips (call them subclips). The MovieClips on top are all mouseEnabled with MOUSE_OVER, CLICK, etc, event handlers. I want to capture the event of MOUSE_OVER (or ROLL_OVER) on the base_mc as well. Any time I am over one of the subclips I am also over the base_mc clip. How can I capture this event?

I'd like to know what is the difference between MouseEvent.CLICK & MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN. Because when i use MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN for a button to set full-screen view its doesn't work, instead of this MouseEvent.CLICK works. So what was the reason.

I'm making a button for the first time, and I wanted to use a full click to drive it. However, when I use addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickHandler); nothing happens when I click on it. When I use (with the rest of the code being identical) addEventListener(MouseEvent. MOUSE_ down, onClickHandler); it works like a charm.

What is the difference between MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP and MouseEvent.CLICK? Why should I use one of these over the other?

I have a MOUSE_DOWN handler that creates a CLICK event listener on a child object. Naturally, as soon as you release the mouse button, if you happen to be over the child object, the CLICK event fires.I was disappointed to discover that event.stopImmediatePropagation doesn't interrupt the CLICK event from registering the MOUSE_DOWN as part of its detection cycle. It makes sense that it doesn't but still... disappointing.A MouseEvent.CLICK consists of detecting a MOUSE_DOWN on the object and then if it's followed by a MOUSE_UP without leaving the object, he event fires. I had hoped that by cancelling the MOUSE_DOWN event, it would clear that out of the CLICK buffer, but no such potatoes, alas.This could all be handled with a flag and a couple more MOUSE_UP and MOUSE_DOWN handlers, but dang, smacks of effort

I am looking to change the background color of a input textField when the user selects that testfield to start populating it. I have done a bunch of searching and I keep coming up with this type of answer...

1) Is onSetFocus/onKillFocus still available? From what I can tell it is not.

I'm using the following to remove a textFeild from the stage I then need to add this textField back to the stage at a later time....i tried using addChild the problem is the text that was in the text field prior to the removal is still in the textfield when i re add it......How do i remove the textfield and replace it with a fresh textfield at a later time?....using msgTa.text =""; is not an option.

I just recently started playing with cs5 and it's new features. I tried to rotate a textfield with the 3D rotation tool, but when you do this, the textfields gets blurry.And it seems like it's not a vector text anymore, because when you zoom in, it still is blurry.Is there a way to prevent that?

i would just like to ask why is the case that when i use embedfonts = true on a textfield, the textfield's text only resizes according to the textfield's height but not the textfield's width. meaning if i make the textfield's height bigger, the text also gets bigger in terms of height, but not width, can't the embedded font maintain aspect ratio according to the textfield height?
I'm only wondering about this because this is not the case when embedfonts= false

Attached is basically a recreation of the problem. What I'm basically trying to do is a tooltip window with 4 frames. Each frame has different textfields but also some the same. Like the "Weapon" frame has textfields called namebox, typebox, levelbox, and damagebox, while the "Armor" frame has namebox, typebox, levelbox, and defensebox.
In the attachment there is a Movieclip called awd on the stage. It has 2 keyframes in it called "Weapon" and "Drop" each with their own textfields but they are both called "box". I have a click event listener that makes awd go to its second frame and outputs the second child in awd, which will be the textfield. The problem is when I click the first time, awd goes to the second frame but it outputs null instead of Object TextField. When I click again it outputs Object TextField. If I trace the number of children it gives me 2. So I don't know how it can be null.

I've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:

</XMLdata>
So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other. All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.

I have a numerical stepper,and a user can click on a textfield, then click the up and down arrows on the stepper to change the font size,i then try and set the focus back to the textfield and put the caret at the end of the textfield, but the stepper keeps focus anyway.Here is the event handler for when the stepper value is changed.Get the textfield's current format, change the size, set the new format, then focus on the textfield and set the caret position, but the caret just stays inside the stepper.

I've had problems with other components too with the exact same focus issue and the only solution i've ever come up with is to set a timeout for like 100 milliseconds to set the focus back then and it works. another way to do this without the "hack"?

What I have is a dynamicly created row of movieClips. In which TextFields are added with text that's received from an Array. What I would like to be able to do is click on the movieClip that's visible and have the code understand I clicked array[3] for example and it will show the 4th array item in another textfield.

I've created a function called dragItem() that I call with the MOUSE_DOWN event. I've got it working....kind of. I can access the function when the mouse is clicked and I can even get the name of the instance when the mouse is down. I'm trying to use the same logic to get the single object to allow a drag. see my code below...
