how can i make a movieclip and a textfield to resize to the content of the text in the textfield? I mean, if I have a textfield with 3 letters font name XXX and then the content of the field change, how can i resize te textfield so the text dont autoadjust to the 3 letter space?
When creating a new TextField dynamically, is there a property that automatically adjusts the width to the content or is it always necessary to have txt_field.width = ...? What I have is a dynamicly created row of movieClips. In which TextFields are added with text that's received from an Array. What I would like to be able to do is click on the movieClip that's visible and have the code understand I clicked array[3] for example and it will show the 4th array item in another textfield.

I have no problem dynamically loading text if I place a textField on the stage but I can't seem to get the following to work using the createTextField. I shortened my code to make it easier to read and still show what I am trying to do. Also I can I place the text within the BlueMenu or only on top of it? Is so how?

I'm still a beginner with AS3. I am simply trying to load my .htm file into my dynamic text field, but it will not show up. When the movie plays, the cursor shows that there is text where it is supposed to be, but I do not see any text. I don't see an option to attach a file, otherwise I would.

I am currently creating an online portfolio using Slideshowpro [URL]. For some of my pictures I am using (external) captions from a XML file, inserted into a dynamic textfield. As some of the captions contain a lot of text I decided to add a UIScrollBar. However, when there is no text (no caption) available, I want the scrollbar to be hidden. Also if there is not enough text to warrant a scrollbar it would be great if it could be hidden!

I am really at a lose end with this - I have a flash file called in xml into a dynamic textfield. It works fine with English but when I try and put Greek into the xml the flash file then doesn't show the font. The font is verdana - which can be translated and I have embedded the font, with greek and made sure my xml is unicode-8 - but it still shows nothing.

I am working on a listbox(flash component), where upon click, will display other arrays in a movie( which is also a listbox made from textfield). The second listbox suppose to contain html links, where it will open up a popup upon clicked. The problem is that whenever I click on the listbox, the content in the sub listbox doesn't change. that is, it doesn't empty the previous load of links, but just add on to the list of links. I am not sure what I can use to prevent this issue. I have tried listener, and "if else" statements.. I've include the codes for the 2nd listbox (the textfield listbox).

I have a dynamic textfield that loads text from a txt file. The content of the txt file will be modified daily by the client.What i need is that if there is too much text in the txt file, the dynamic textfield resizes (and not only with autosize because the text can be really long).[code]it doesnt look very good but it works. The only problem is that if I have a really long text the maxsizeY doesnt work fine.

Problems...
1) Is onSetFocus/onKillFocus still available? From what I can tell it is not.
2) I have my text objects encapsulasted in a class so I do not believe I am able to do it like I have been suggested.
There's only room for three lines of text in the interface, but the content is external and variable, and if it ends up taking up more than three lines, there needs to be some sort of 'view all' button functionality. I can kind of think about what that function needs to look like, but I'm not quite sure what the best way to do it in AS3 would be. Something like (in pseudo code):
In a card game I use a TextField in the middle to display the playing table number, but also to detect if a playing card has been played - using myTextField.hitTestObject(myCard) - which means the TextField's position and dimensions may not change:

However the TextField's content (the String "#2029" in the above screenshot) is not in the center of it.
I can not set _middle.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER because this changes the width of the border (and breaks hitTestObject()).
Is there another way to align the text in the middle?
