ActionScript 3.0 :: AddChild(mc) Not Displaying All My Children

I had this posted as an indexing problem. The end result being that a swf loaded onto the stage was covering a pulldown menu mc.

What I discovered is that the mc itself is not displaying despite using the following, very simple syntax[code]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: AddChild Adding Too Many Children

Jan 8, 2010

I am trying to make a function where if you click on one button, a new movieclip is added to the stage. When you click on that movieclip, it should play the closing and remove itself from the stage (removeChild).The problems I am running into are that when you click the button, it will add a new movieclip child for every click. I want it to only add one and any successive clicks would close it.Also I was successful in making the new movie clip play the closing but I cant figure out how to remove it from the stage. Its alpha fades to 0 as the closing, but its still there and just invisible.[code]

Added Children But Objects Not Displaying In Flash

May 11, 2011

I'm adding a series of objects dynamically to my flash movie from xml but they won't appear when I run the movie. I have nearly identical code adding objects in a different swf that works just fine. I have tested this 8 ways from Sunday including ensuring that they were added to the container which is a child of the main MovieClip (tested the display list), that they were added to stage (had a listener for ADDED_TO_STAGE) and that their position was correct (displayed x,y values and compared them to mouseX & mouseY values). They are in the correct place in the display list. Still there are no objects. The class is linked correctly, I have movie clips in the library.[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Displaying Dynamic Textfields With AddChild - Line Breaks?

Jun 5, 2009

At the moment, everything is output to stage in one big clump. But I can't figure how to make each text field display on separate lines. Messing with the y value doesn't seem to do the trick nor do line breaks in the XML.

Code:
var dtxt:TextField;
for (var i:uint = 0; i < occID.length(); i++) {
dtxt = new TextField();

[Code]....

The purpose of this code is to create a dynamic textfield or a movieclip with values from an XML file to be added to stage as options in a drop down menu. Putting them in a text field or movie clip would allow me apply mouse events, etc. I'm a novice coder and so I'm just trying to feel out the best way I can handle it at the moment!

ActionScript 3.0 :: [CS4] Children Inside Children - 1119: Access Of Possibly Undefined Property NumChildren

Inside each of the 12 Sprites I have either one or two TextFields and one TextInput. My question is, since they are children inside a child of pageContent, how can I access them? Here is how I am trying to do it:

In my mind, this should totally work. But surprise, surprise, it doesn't. Data Integration :: Pulling In Children Of Children In XML

Sep 23, 2006

Newbie to XML here and I have what I *hope* is an easy problem, but I just don't know the answer. And as I have to try and show this by Monday, I'm sort of stuck. I am trying to pull in information about houses via an xml file. Each house has 1 address, 1 owner, 1 description, and about 6 photos. I have no problem accessing the address, owner, etc, and I can always access the first photo, but whenever I cycle through the photos, I seem to cycle through the first photo for every house, not every photo for each house.

Basically, I need the children <images> to go up by one, without the the parent going up by 1. I am hoping I am describing this well. My code looks like this:

Flex - Access Children Of Children Recursively?

I have a Canvas which has many components inside it and those again, have many components inside them.

getChildren() returns only the top level children. What is the best way to retrieve all the children (children of children of children and so on).

Well, I sorta know how to do this by iterating through the children, but the code is really messy. I'd prefer to use a nice recursive function. Has anyone written this before? Or is there a Util class to do this?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load External SWFs, AddChild(Loader) Versus AddChild(Loader.content), Etc?

Jul 29, 2009

I have a main "shell" swf which, by clicking several buttons, will load/unload various external swfs into a Placeholder_mc which resides on the main timeline in Shell.swf In the documentation and tutorials I've seen a couple different methods, and I'm not sure I quite understand the difference, or at least the reason you would use one over the other...In the 1st method, you can just add the Loader object using the addChild() method:

Code:

var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf");
myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
Placeholder_mc.addChild(myLoader);

This will apparently add myLoader to the display list once it has completely loaded.The 2nd method, you supposedly can add the Loader.content; however, it appears you can only do this once the content has completed loading, so you need to incorporate an event handler with the contentLoaderInfo object:

Code:

var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf");
myLoader.load(myURLRequest);

[code]....

What are the pros/cons of adding the entire Loader object, as opposed to the Loader.content and vice versa?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Set My Own Variables In An Addchild?

May 6, 2010

I am looking at an xml file, and creating a big list of visible buttons for each "flag" via addchild().

One of the subsets of each "flag" button in the xml is "Content"

I've been reading a lot on this but I'm just getting more and more confused. Can someone break down for me:

How to pass the xml Content to each addchilded button, so it can then pass that Content to a function when it's clicked.

The Content is a string, like "Flag40.swf" which is the file I want my function to load when I click the button. I have everything working except for getting each button to tell my function which .swf to load.
