ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Click Listener To Stage

Oct 23, 2010

I have added a listener to the stage to close a loader object when the stage is clicked. The problem is the click seems to effect the loader object to (basically when you click the loader it calls the click function attached to the stage). Is that to be expected? I suppose it makes sense, but is there a way of adding a listener to the stage that excludes certain objects?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Event Listeners For Movieclip Inside Movieclip?

Nov 5, 2010

I have a movieClip button in my library that I dynamically add multiple instances of to the stage using code (so each instance has a unique name). The button has two frames, so it has a basic rollover effect (just changes color. To make the rollover work, I've had to dynamically add an event listener to each new instance of the movieclip, which triggers the rollover function.

I was wondering, instead of adding an event listener each time, can I somehow have an event listener within the movieclip to take care of the rollover?  Or will it not make any difference to the number of event listeners, as it will still add a listener with each new instance of the clip?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding / Removing Stage Event Listeners

Feb 6, 2009

I'm adding and removing stage event listeners I am relatively new to AS 3 and have been building a liquid layout site unfortunately I do not have a strong grasp of classes and have been doing all of my scripting on the main timeline with encapsulated script within MC's.

basically I am calling on the same functions over and over and those are mostly resize functions which I have added StageEventListeners on the appropriate frames to listen for resize events on that stage now as of now I have literally dozens of these scattered about the site. when testing my site things are running fairly smoothly however I keep getting error messages in my output window that go a little something like this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Event Listeners To Stage Buttons?

May 11, 2010

I have 22 buttons (each named buttoni where i is a number between 0-21...e.g. button0, button1, button2) that I've created and artfully arranged on the stage in my .fla file. The document class for the .fla file is People.as, and in People I'd like to give each button a rollover and click event listener, but I can't figure out how to refer to them using a loop.

Here's my code, which obviously doesn't work:

ActionScript Code:
private function initButtons() : void {
for (var i:int = 0; i<numSquares; i++) {
var thisButton : String = "button" + i;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Simulate A Mouse Click Event On Stage?

Apr 29, 2010

I want to program something that does this but I have no idea how to get started or whether it is possible.

1. Using the loader class I will load several images to the stage and set their x / y coordinates accordingly so that they don't overlap.

2. A random x, y coordinate is generated within the document class.

3. If there are any loaders that exist at that location it will be deleted.

If the x, y coordinate was to be generated by a click to the stage, I could do it like this.

Code:
// detect for clicks at the stage level
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, dosomething);
public function dosomething(e:Event) : void

[Code]....

But I want to be able to send a simulated click instead at a certain x y coordinate, and then use the .target to operate on the object that it refers to. Is this possible?

Class :: FLA File - Adding Child To Stage

Apr 12, 2012

I am trying to make a "Achtung! die kurve" - like game in Actionscript 3.0. So far I've done the movement of one of the 'worms', and it works alright. I wanna divide it into different class files, but I can't seem to get it to work. I have a .fla file and 4 .as files. So far I only have code in two of these. When I put all my code directly into the fla file, it works perfectly fine, but when I put it into my player class, it won't 'add the child' to the stage. Here is my player .as file: [URL].

The reason why I commented the addChild, is because I wanna do this in my mainFile.as. This is from the main file: [URL]. I'm not quite sure how to call it in the main file, so I'm guessing that this would be the issue. All the files are named and placed correctly in the same folder, and flash says that each of my .as files are targeting the .fla file, so this doesn't seem to be the issue. How I can change the speed of my sprite.

There we go. What i want to do is, I want to create an instance of the Player class, which then creates an instance of the Actor class, which in the _draw() function should add an image to the stage, but I can't figure out how to do that. I want this image to be an instance in the Player's Actor instance, so i later can move it around, the same goes for the user name text. how do i add an image and a user name text field to the stage at player.__x and player.__y?

ActionScript 3.0 :: KeyboardEvent : Event Doesn't Function Unless Click On Stage

Jan 2, 2010

I'm trying to wrapup a slideshow for a client and the client asked for keyboardEvents in addition to buttonEvents. So I went ahead and added a stage.addEventListener and it works but only if you click on the stage first. In Flash CS4 itself when you test a movie, the problem doesn't happen but when you test it in a browser, the problem exists. Go to [URL] and see what I mean. Try the keyboard left and right arrows first. Then click on the stage and try again. How can I make it get focus on the stage on startup?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding MC From Library To Stage From External Class

Oct 14, 2009

I'm trying to create an application with an extensive user interface. I've come pretty far and decided I wanted to really take advantage of the object oriented features that AS3 has to offer.

I've started off by created a few classes: User, Background and Main. Main is the document class of course. In the document class I have a function "resetStage" that clears the display list of all children. This is because I have many layers of images making up the UI and they all show up at startup unless I remove them. Besides I want to see where the stuff is positioned in the Authoring tool so I don't want to just create movieclips and then delete them.

My issue is with my Background class. Basically what I want to do is create a new DisplayObjectConatiner called bgContainer or something and then put all the background stuff in it. (The main background image and a status bar image). Then add the bgContainer and its children to the stage. This should all happen when the object is constructed.

Main .as
---------------------
package
{
public class Main extends MovieClip
{

I'm having some issues trying to add a movieclip to the stage through actionscript. Moving from AS2 to AS3 and it's a little daunting to get this concept.

Here's the code i'm using to add the movieclip:

Code: Select allvar flowerfader_mc:Flower = flowerfader_mc();
addChild(flowerfader_mc);

Here's a grab of my movieclip properties:

I keep getting this error: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method flowerfader_mc.
