Apparently, AS3 keeps track of each object that registers a listener for a given event in an internal array known as a "listener list" (Moock's Essential Actionscript 3.0, page 216). Is it possible to view this list somehow to check for stray listeners that may be slowing down your code, or to just check how many listeners are running at a particular time?
View 6 RepliesI am using a List component inside an itemRenderer. The main user interaction involves dragging an item from the List in one renderer and dropping it in another. My problem: When the data object is updated I want the Lists' height to be modified according to the number of objects in the dataprovider(dp), which is passed to the List from the data object. Now I have tried to invalidate the display of the List, refresh its dp and have tried putting this line assets.length > 0 ? assetList.percentHeight = 100 : assetList.height = 10; in other event handlers, such as dragdrop handlers, collection event handlers for the dp etc. I have also tried refreshing the dp for the List component that is using this renderer. The view does eventually get updated but only if I resize the list, or use the scroller or when I begin dragging a new List item but never after the drop.

Each of them can be accessed e.g. viamyCombo.getItemAt(0) .To me it seems I only get an object with adata and label property. But I think there must be more to it, becausewhen you hold your mouse over a sub-element, it'll be highlighted. Thismeans that there is some event listener on that very single item. I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

I'm coding a image viewer application for tablets using Adobe Flex 4.5. Basically, I have a list with a custom item renderer that renders the images in the list. I have set up the image size to be the width/height of the tablet device in portrait (600x1024). This way, only one image can be seen at one time. The problem is that when the device orients to landscape, this design obviously screws up. My question is how can I get it to change the width/height of my images automatically when the orientation changes such that only one image is shown at a time?This is my list:

I'm about to have to write a web page/app that will serve the agenda for circa 100 people on a page. One line per person, one column per day with 3 clickable zones in each cell. In HTML, the page is way complex for the browser to load quick and there is no possibility to click on a border between 2 cells to for example split an event that spreads among several cells. So I search an not too overkilling technology to render this kind of view. I begun with a PHP generated HTML page but the number of elements in the page make the mouse move jerky.
Moving to JAVA would give me better performances regarding the reuse of the generator of the view but it will still be an HTML page. So, here is my question: do you think that going forward with JAVA and its graphical capability is the simple solution or is Flash a better option for this part of a Web App? I'm afraid of the code I'll have to write in JAVA to handle the GUI presentation as well as the events generated by the 1000's cells plus borders of the page. In Flash, the graphical part seems simpler even if the actions handling is still huge.
I'm currently using RobotLegs with the Presentation Model pattern to develop a Flex 4 project. I understand that all business logic related to a View resides in the Presentation Model associated with that view, however, I am confused when it comes to View specific logic.For example, I have an indicator that needs to be positioned relatively to list items depending on which list item is selected. Is it acceptable in the Presentation pattern to put the logic that will position the indicator in the View and simply have that logic run in reaction to a selectedIndex property changing in the presentation model?The reason I am considering this is that since the Presentation Model does not have a reference to the view it is difficult to come up with an ideal solution for manipulating view components.

I have one .mxml file (the Application) with a ViewStack (with 4 views) and a ControlBard, obviously I can change the views with it, but what I want to do is: in view #1 I have an image which I want to convert to a "hyperlink", so when I click it I go to View #2, is this doable? Also I would like to pass somehow some data (like a String) to that View #2 (lets say the it's a user avatar I click so I want to go to the second view which will show me his profile, that's why I need his name/id).

I can access {dataobject.property} from MXML easily, but I want to set a variable in the new view to the passed dataobjects property.

Basically you cannot move in the file to edit anything viewpoint wise, everything outside of the movie area is invisible and not there? As if cropped.

I am trying to trace the results of my listener when the browser is resized...no avail. Are you able to see what I am doing wrong?
I am having a weird problem with scope/reference. I am using a loop to preload a number of thumbs in one go, I am creating a different listener for each one on the fly and then passing event handlers for each one of them. This should not be difficult using a loop, but somehow I cannot access the the parent object on my listener and therefore I can't do much with my thumbs after they are loaded.Here is the relevant segment of my code. myThumb_mc is a temporary variable that does not exist when the loop finishes, you can copy and paste this code to test it though. It should work to that extent. (you'll need an image1.jpg to be in the same directory)

I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

I want to add a SimpleButton to a list item in a list component. I am getting the CellRenderer for the list item I want and using the addChild method to add the simple button. The button appears in the right spot on the list item but it doesn't function like a button. It's like the contents of the buttons first frame is added to the CellRenderer and nothing else.
