I'm making a spark component and I've defined my own skinpart which doesn't show up in Flash Builder's design view. When I run the app it works fine. I'm basically using Panel and PanelSkin as a guide. For debug purposes... I just took the panelskin and renamed the controlbar to headerI'm posting code below... but this forum kinda killed all my code formatting

It's gross. I am coming at this from the perspective of a java developer, so I'm having a hard time getting the hang of the compilation tools provided in the Flex Builder 3 application, but here's what I already have: I have created an ant file that loads the ant task library correctly, and can therefore execute <mxmlc/> and <compc/> tasks.
I have located the source code that I need to build, and know what sort of .swc I want to end up with. What I want is an ant script that will do the equivalent of these steps: We build all sources (actionscript and MXML) and assets in the project into an swc file. The AS2 DateChooser has just the functionality I need to build the events calendar that I have to build .. however .. while I know what to do in theory, I'm stumbling on (a) whether it will work and (b) syntax.
I want to display an instance of the DateChooser (myDate) and access the selectedDate property when the user selects a date. Then I need to pass it to the main events page preferably on the same page with something like this:
SELECT EventTitle. EventDescription, EventLink FROM Events
WHERE EventDate = MMColParam
MMColParam 1 myDate.selectedDate
The page itself is ASP. I am thinking I would probably define a variable and perhaps use LoadVars to load the selected date from Flash .. not something I have done before.
Perhsps something like
dim eventDate
eventDate = myDate.selectedDate
I'm sure that's not the syntax .. but I think that is the theory. I should be able to access the selectedDate property of the Date Chooser instance and feed the date into the query to select the events on that date and list them.

have been working on an air app for quite some time and in one of my mx:lists i have a custom renderer written in pure AS (no mxml). it extends the listitemrenderer mx componenet. in it i have overrode the createChildren() function to add some children of my own.
now, fort right-to-left text i want in this itemrenderer, i would like to add a spark:TextArea component in this createChildren() function
is there a way to do so?

I have a spark RichText that I want to change his color according with the value on text property.
Negative values get red, positives blue...
When I declare the component, I call a method to set up the css style, but when the value changes, the color is not updated.

View 2 RepliesI'm building a mobile AIR app using Flash Builder 4.5. The initial view in my views package is TestHomeView.mxml. I want to refer to it in one of my .as classes elsewhere in the app, and I'm not sure how to do that.
Theoretically I should be able to add an "id" attribute to TestHomeView.mxml, but FB gives me an error: "id is not allowed on the root tag of a component". The root tag is s:view.
The reason I need to do this is that within another class I make various calculations and then need to pass an array of values to a component in my view class. So in SomeOtherActionScriptClass.as I first assemble the array, myArray, and then in that class I want to do this:
myViewComponent.viewArray = myArray;
If I'm going to do that, I also need to import the view class into the .as class, which strikes me as weird. So is there a simple way to do what I want, or do I have to dispatch a custom event which contains the array, and listen for it in the view class?

But it is coming back null. It isn't null when I put a breakpoint in the Model class, but when I try to access it from the view class, it's null. The model itself isn't null, but that variable is.

I've got a custom component (quite complex so I can't post any code here, although that shouldn't matter), that I can add to a view. When the component is deleted from the view or the view is switched I call my own dispose method which removes remaining eventListeners and kills some references so that the component can eventually be nulled and collected by the GC.
All that works perfectly fine until I add a Spark TextInput to the MXML part of the component (it took me hours to find out what is preventing the component to be collected!), so I recon that the TextInput somehow automatically adds some eventListeners.
My question is what are these listeners, or is there anything else I haven't thought of?
There are lots of examples of how to create skinnable components in AS3 using the new Spark component architecture, however I've yet to find any such examples using MXML.What I'm mainly referring to is defining the skin parts and skin states. It seems as though the SkinPart metadata is supposed to be associated with properties and as such can't be used in MXML, is this correct?

View 1 RepliesI have an mxml file called HomeView.mxml in a mobile app built using Flash Builder 4.6. In that HomeView.mxml I have an HSlider, which is dispatching events when the thumb is moved. What I'm trying to do is to listen for that valueCommit event in an .as file elsewhere in the project.
Whenever the thumb moves, an event is dispatched in HomeView.mxml:
hSlider.dispatchEvent(new FlexEvent("valueCommit", true));
I can handle that event in HomeView.mxm, but not in an .as class called view.as
In view.as I import the FlexEvent and I then have, in addedToStageHandler:
stage.addEventListener(FlexEvent.VALUE_COMMIT, commitHandler);
Then there's a simple Handler:
private function commitHandler(e:FlexEvent):void
{
trace("committed!");
}
But this code never runs. I do have a handler in the HomeView.mxml file which handles the event, but for other reasons I need to handle it in view.as as well.
In my Flash Builder (Flex) 4.6 app, I just noticed for some reason all my "s:Window" components will not allow me to click and select anything in design mode in flash builder!
My other non-window type components are fine - I can open a TitleWindow or Group for example and click on the various fields and labels no problem.
In my Window components, I can select an item in the 'outline' window, but not using the mouse and actually clicking on the component in the visual design window. When I click in there, it looks like it's selecting the actual 'window' box. Almost like it needs to be 'sent to back' or something.
I use this code to create and show a MessageWindow:

There is no nested components displayed when I run my app.
The debugger shows they are created and visible.
To my "amusement" the components are shown when I replace s:TitleWindow with mx:TitleWindow.
I really want to use spark TitleWindow.
I am working on a drag and drop feature for the sparkScroller. This is sort of how my layout looks:

So when you hold your finger over a row in the items Scroller for more than a 30 seconds, the touchView becomes visible so does the dummyRow. The dummyRow gets populated to look like the row which you held your finger over.
So the touchView has the event handlers for moving your fingers and places the dummyRow where your finger is. The problem I am having is even though the touchView is reacting to my move events, the scroller still keeps reacting to my move events as well even though it's a sub layer. Because I started on the scroller it still keeps track!
How can I remove focus / tracking from the scroller?

I have a component "child" which has a cancel button. Now this component is placed in a state called "newChildComp" I also have another component called "parent". In the parent component, i have a button that dispatches an event. Here is the event code:

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?
