Mar 29, 2012i want to create a chat app using flex 4.5 mobile project for android device. For the chat screen, i wanted it to look glossy and stylish. Hence i thought i would use the list component and disable the selection in it. I m able to add the chat messages into the list. But i doubt if large chat data might hinder the performance. Im using a collection and i ve binded it with the list. Whenever i receive a chat i update the collection and it gets displayed in the list. Can someone tell me if his could pose a performance problem as list component is not intended for this purpose.

Nov 11, 2010I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.
UPDATE: *There will be not any object over another.
*I will not use hitTest on bitmaps because all bitmaps are wrapped in another component,as they,for now are itemrenderers.
Anyway I already begin to do this using a class that extends the SkinnableDataContainer and a custom layout. As the layout is not like a grid, is sparse, random items at diferent points(x, y).How to get the localX and localY, relative to item renderer and not to the Spark List, from a DragEvent in Flex 4?

Jun 7, 2010To fit in with my page design, yet to take advantage of the "List" component, I'd like to spread my list-labels horizontally, across the page (1 row, multiple columns). Is this possible? If not, is there a comparable component that would do the same thing; showing a row of text labels, rather than a whole set of individual buttons and all the scripting that would entail?

Aug 18, 2010I have developed an application using various FMS2 Communication Components. One of those is the Chat component. The application has various display modes (minimized, normal, maximized). These display modes require the Chat component instance to be resized and repositioned on the screen. I took the approach of having a separate frame represent each of the display modes.
The problem I am having is that the Chat component won't resize or relocate from the size/position on the first frame. The visual layout isn't respected, and calling this.moveTo(x,y) has no effect either. The only way I can get the component to have the desired behavior is to comment out the last line of the Chat component actionscript[code]...

Nov 9, 2010I am working on an older Flash project created in CS3 ActionScript 2.0 How can I make the pointer cursor change to the hand when hover over a list item?_root.slidePanel.myList'myList' is the list. I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.

I believe it's because when it reads the data from my topics list, it reads topic1.xml instead of "topic1.xml" ( reads without the quotes). If I unquote line v.list.load("subtopic.xml"), it works, but I need it to be loaded from the XML..

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Make A Chat Bot
Jan 14, 2010First off, I don't generally use things such as TextFields and Strings with my projects, so this is a bit of a first for me, so let me know if I've done something wrong or tried to do something that isn't possible.
What I'm trying to do is, for a project of mine, create a "chat bot". For it I have an input box and a submit button. When the button is pressed, it runs a function that creates a text field that says "User:" and then a text field which has the users text. What I then am trying to have is something which makes what was said into a string, split by the spaces, and then compares it to arrays to try and find keywords, so as to figure out what the bot should say. I haven't had time to check to see why, but for some reason though it isn't working. I don't know if it just isn't possible what I'm trying, or if I've done it the wrong way, or something else. Dec 7, 2010I've uploaded a Chatango chat-box on a site of mine, and it worked fine, until I added <'param name="wmode" value=" transparent"/> to make the Chat-box transparent, because it fits nicer to my site. In that case, the browser would take as a default that my Keyboard is set to English, and so I cannot use some characters, while some others are switched, because I'm otherwise using a Slovenian keyboard setting. How do I make the chat-box transparent without the change in my Keyboard language?
