ActionScript 3.0 :: Check Cache For Existing Files?
Jan 13, 2011
I have created a video pre-loader, but the problem with it is that once you download and view a file, if you want to see it again, you have to download it again. I was hoping that there was a method for checking whether the file exists in cache, before it is downloaded again. If it does exist in cache, I would like Flash to re-play the cached file, instead of downloading it again.
I have an Flex app that loads xml files with URLLoader/URLRequest methods, and works perfectly. The problem is that the .xml files are stored in "Temporary Internet Files" folder of the browser, and we dont want that the user can open or read those .xml files. Do you know any way to prevent that xml files are stored in the user browser cache folder? or any alternative way to load the data of the xml files, or read it directly from the server?
If I am on a flash heavy website, and I clear my browser cache, the site continues to function. Chances are the entire swf is not loaded into flash's active memory at the time I clear the browser cache (especially for sites that use large rsl libraries such as papervision3d). I can verify this with flash-builder's profiling tools. So, where are the swf libraries kept on disk (or in memory somewhere else?) which allow the site to continue to function?
I used Gaia framework to build a self-scrolling slideshow. There are only 4 pages in all, but I have realized to my dismay that each of these pages are requested over and over from the server. If you leave the page open and the animation goes by itself, that can clobber our server.
What can I do to prevent this? I wonder if there is a way of writing a URLRequest so the pragma header can tell the browser to use the swf from its cache rather than requesting it again?
Note that I am not using SWFaddress so the requests are going to the same URI.
Now what my problem is, first time using this script successfully its running, and showing preloader text. But another time using this script (press Ctrl + Enter) that time cache files are running, so the preloader text doesnt showing not properly. So how can I remove the cache files using flash.....
I've created a portfolio with animated image buttons and arrows navigation (all nested movie clips). All navigation is handled using goAndStop() at frame labels. The site has a lot of image content, so to keep the initial swf download reasonably brief, I've used many separate (renamed) instances of loader component.I assume the loader component is just graphical substitute for typing in the loadMovie() command for people like myself who are inexperienced with scripting.
With normal server traffic and T1 level bandwidth the lag time after click is 1-2 secs. Acceptable, but sometimes it gets up to 5+ seconds, which compromises the user experience (and might cost me a client). Is there a command string I can insert into a frame in the actions layer at the start of the timeline (after progress bar) to preload all external files into the player's cache after runtime begins?
I have an external SWF which i load into my main SWF with URLloader.... that external SWF includes several FLV-movies. I´m not sure how they have been imported to that SWF, probably with FLV component.... but I´m not sure and I don´t have any idea of possible instance names either.....
My question is that can I still create a preloader that would load all used FLV-files into a cache, my goal is that user could start watching videos directly after pushing play button, without need to wait any buffering...
I know all the names and URLs of those FLV-files if that helps..I´m looking for actionscript 3 solution for my main SWF but if someone knows the way to do it with html-wrapper, that would do as well (I´m using SWFobject for html-wrapper)
I'm going to develop an online examination system. There are many audio files in the exam and it's time dependent. I'm looking for a way to predownload(cache) audio files so students won't waiting for file loading after examination starts. I want to use a single page to download files and this step is not include in the exam time.
I am trying to making a scroller, which is with 9 surgeons(all are doing there animations). Now they all are loading from outside to the scroller movieclip.
ANd its take time while loading..
Meanwhile I also want the other surgeons which having voice converstaion load in browser cahce..So when user clcik on the surgeon link the swf loaded in browser run fast or load fast.
I want to use this Flash MP3 player URL...on my website to play my music compositions. It is a fantastic player, but it is caching the mp3 files to location "C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files" on the user's machine. Is it possible NOT to cache the mp3 files to the user's local machine.Pls let me know if there is any other flash xml mp3 player which has the same functionalities.
This question is more about updating swf and xml files on the browser. I have a gallery site that has muliple swf files loaded on the master swf on button click. These swf files loads an xml file. My problem is that whenever I update the xml or swf file, the browser still has the flash cache stored so I have to manually refresh the file to see the changes. As in, I can't just refresh the index.html. I have to refresh the /xml/filename.xml or /flash/filename.swf Which works but then when other people view the site again, they won't know that they have to refresh the files because they don't know the file name or path. Know what I mean? I researched the net and found solutions like using index.php instead of html or using a random variable string like index.php?mod="34342234" but that only seems to update the master swf.
I am using Flash CS3. Now i am using this code.....
var intervalID:Number; this.createEmptyMovieClip("myMovie",this.getNextHi ghestDepth()); this.createEmptyMovieClip("progressMovie",this.get NextHighestDepth());
[Code].....

This is santhosh, I have qury to all is it possible to avoid caching (save) swf files to temporary folder in client system? is there any solution for the same?
I received an inheritance old flex project. I've never worked with Flex. I installed the latest Flash Builder and I need to know the exact version of used Flex SDK. Is there any way to know used SDK version from project files?
Say I got a live event called game in "C:FMSHOMEapplicationslivepkgrevents\_definst_game" and push a MBR stream for awhile and see the ".stream" files being created, everything works good.
However whenever I stop the stream, delete the contents and try to republish another stream to this event name never recreates the '.stream' files or stream directories.
1. Delete the files "C:FMSHOMEapplicationslivepkgrevents\_definst_gameMsadsaasa.str eam","C:FMSHOMEapplicationslivepkgrevents\_definst_gameMsadsaasa .stream".
2. Delete all the stream directories - "C:FMSHOMEapplicationslivepkgrstreams\_definst_game1", "C:FMSHOMEapplicationslivepkgrstreams\_definst_game2".
Is this normal behavior or is there a default waiting peroid before reusing an event name? Should I only publish to a liveevent name once?
I got a XFL file, its library files and AS files in a directory.I would like to use Flash Builder 4(FB) for editing AS files, running the compiled SWF and profiling. When I created a New->ActionScript project in FB, I could edit the AS files but didn't know how to link the XFL file and run them. When I created a New->Flash Professional Project, I was prompted for a XFL file, and although the chosen XFL file and the AS files are in a same directory, the AS files are not automatically included in the project. I couldn't find a way to add exiting files in the project either.
I was trying to set up a loop which checks to see if all files are available from an array before loading them in. I have got it working to a point where it traces out file is loaded or not but I cant seem to trace out which actual file name is missing eg. myfile1.swf is missing.
I'm building an swf that's suppose to work locally (offline). That swf is like a menu for some other swf that the user will download and will be prompted to put them in the same folder of the main swf. What I want to do is the main swf to be able to recognise which swf the user have downloaded in order to show them 'available' on main menu.Is there a way to check the folder destination for swf files or something?
I created a program that sends images to a server, use the browse function of a FileReference object to check the files when you click a button "send pictures. But I would like to open the program he ask for the files but do not know how.
i need a simple python lib that check the uploaded files to my webserver are flash media (FLV), by reading the flv header (metadata) and not the mimetype extension.
See [URL] Now there is a button called Answera, which when clicked should have a symbol (movie clip) called Check appear at the cordinated specified. Check exists in the libary (but does not have an instance name) and no where else on the stage. when I run this code I get: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Check. -> var rightCheck = new Check(); How is it undefinded if it exists in the libary?
The following is my codes. This is still work in progress; so, you will see some functions with empty contents. Plus, this is my first Flex application; please bear with me. This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?
Whats the best possible way to pull the swf in html everytime from the server not from the system cache?I am using flash files in my hytml which grabs the data from XML, we frequently update our XMLs so we want our users to get the fresh swf from the server so that they get the latest feed.
This is my first post here in StackOverFlow, and I bring you a problem that is hauting my development team.
We are in a project, using stand alone FlashPlayer as a news displayer. The news feed is a dynamic XML returned from a ASP.Net request and runs on Windows XP.
The problem is:- The display is running in a bus screen and sometimes the internet connection fails, but we still need to keep displaying images from the news already downloaded. When we manually put a string on a URLRequest it works. The image is downloaded from the server, cached by the IE8, and re-loaded from cache if the internet is gone. But, when we dynamic retrieve the image url from de XML and puts inside de the URLRequest method, the re-load from cache do not work.[code]...
We have a web app. built in flash that allows customers to upload images and text, customize the container in which these will be shown (a swf file) and then embed the code into thier website. There is also a sharing options that allows their users to display this container, together with the content, on their websites. (For e.g you can see the container as the Youtube player and the content as the videos the user chooses to show). The swf container uses an XML file to know what to display.
Now, I am not a flash developer, but a person who takes care of the project. We are currently working on the app and the swf and we still find bugs. Every time we fix sth, I am told to erase my cache to see the changes. My concern is that the client/users might not see the newer version that we make available, but the old one. We can't tell them to erase the cache and we can't afford to renounce using the cache since the images are big.I was told that, sometimes, the browser does not see that the current version is a new one and loads it from the cache (actually, it never detected that there is a newer version and I always had to erase the cache). How can we tell the browser "now, load the swf from cache" or "now, don't load the swf from cache".
