View 4 RepliesWhat i need to do is, In Flash (FlashMX, CS3 or CS4) I need to place 2 combo boxes. by default the 1st one will be enabled and the 2nd will be disabled. First combo box will have country names and the 2nd will have state names. when a user selects the country name from the 1st combo box, the 2nd shuld then get enabled. and when a user selects the state from the 2nd combo box, there will be button next to it for clicking. on clicking the button, the values in each combo box shuld be selected and the user will be taken to a specific URL which will have the contents on current selected state in the current selected country.
View 2 Repliesi'm trying to create a roi calculator using two combo boxes. Box 1 how many treatments 5,10,20 Box 2 cost per treatment 90, 100, 120 then button to calculate treatment x cost and a dynamic text field to display result. I am using Flash CS4, am I wasting my time with combo boxes I have searched flsh docs all day.
View 3 RepliesI'm looking for an example of having the selection that a user makes for one combo box determine the options the user sees in a 2nd combo box.For example, if combo box 1 is State and combo box 2 is County, then if the user selects Wisconsin for State, combo box 2 will display only the counties that are in Wisconsin.Assume that the values for State and County are coming in from an xml data file.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering how to create combo boxes dynamically using action script? I know you can use the component object but tyhat's not what I want to do. Is there another way? What libraries would I have to import to my project's main as file?
View 4 RepliesRight now, I have a successful combo box that loads an external jpg to flash from a folder where I store all my images. However the information that is given about the pictures are all in the flash code. I have an xml document, and I was wondering if there's any way I can load information from the xml file rather than supplying it in the flash code,
this is currently the flash code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
combo_cb.addItem("0001 The Assasain", 1);
[code].....
I am trying to populate a component combo box using an urlloaded xml, the xml has been "escaped" and the spaces replaced with +.
How do I populate the combo box as when I unescape the xml and replace the +s it is now in string format.
When I have the combo box in need to be able to select an option, which reflects in the next urlrequest...e.g.
TextLoader.load(new URLRequest(" http://onedev/one/Query2.asp?Cat=THEvalueFROMmyCOMBOBOX "));
[Code].....
I'm currently using the change event handler to detect any changes made to the combobox selection, however, I would like it to ignore when the arrow keys are pressed as I am using them elsewhere.
View 0 RepliesI'm trying to insert some data into my DB from two Combo Boxes in Flash. I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I have no idea how to give the combo box a 'var' value like we do for a regular textfield. I have other pages where I have regular text fields that work fine as I can specify the 'var' value in the properties but not for combo boxes. I'm new to actionscript so please bear with me.
Action Script for my button:
Code:
on (press) {
loadVariablesNum
("http://localhost/Test/acadForm.asp",0, "post");

I have a main movie that contains some combo boxes. Some of them may be disabled.By pressing a button I load another movie using loadMovie. The loaded movie also contains combo boxes.When the button is pressed, the clip that shows the combo boxes is removed from the stage and the loaded movie is displayed. By pressing another button, the loaded movie is unloaded and the clip with the combo boxes is displayed again.Well, once the other movie has been loaded, when I go back to the clip with combo boxes, the disabled combo boxes have a small gray button covering the black down arrow.I have determined that so long as the loaded movie contains combo box in the library, the problem occurrs, even if there is no actual instance of it.The combo boxes that are not disabled are not affected. The combo boxes are disabled by setting "cb_name.enabled=false".If the combo box is enabled, it displays correctly, but if disabled again, it goes wrong again.My project is targeting Flash 8, so it uses AS2.I'm using Flash CS4.
View 5 RepliesEnvironment: Flex/As3/Cairgorm/composite component.I have two comboboxes and two datagrids such that the selection of combobox 1, inserts data into combobox two and the fist datagrid.The selection of combobox 2 inserts data into datagrid 2.I have setup the change event so that the user selection on each of the combo boxes do the right thing. The problem is that on the initial load of the comboboxes, the change event does not fire and subsequent synchronization data loading does not happen.Is there an event for getting the itemselected (1st item) after the combobox is initialized?
View 1 RepliesI need 5 embedded fonts to be added in to a combo box and on selection to apply the font type to several dynamic text boxes.
View 2 Replies It might be something simple I'm doing wrong.I have an array populated by XML in a function by doing the following inside the function:
first_special.addItem({label: xmlMenuFile.item.headers[i],data:
xmlMenuFile.item.descriptions[i],data2: xmlMenuFile.item.hints[i]});
The problem I'm having is trying to figure out a way so that the "data2" will fill the text field "hint_txt" on ROLL_OVER of that items name in the list.I've tried to placing an event listener into the function that populates the combo box .this populates the combo box label and data with the Loaded XML File. This works
function changeHandler(ev:Event):void
{
menuText_mc.heading1_txt.text = ev.currentTarget.selectedItem.label;[code]......
I have two combo boxes. The first combo box's data is added through an XMLConnector object, the second combo box, I would like to populate through an on (change) event in the first combo box. The items in the second combo box would relate to the selection made in the first combo box.
I have attempted the following within the Actions for the first combo box:
on(change) {
switch(this.value) {
case "value1":
comboBox2.addItem({Label:"Label",Data:"Data"});
break;
} // end switch
} // end event
which is not working.
should an event be dispatched by comboBox1 and a listener be attached to comboBox2? I can't find any examples of this on the internet.. but i might be using the wrong search terms.
I'm making a program that draws a grid of boxes and the color of the box must be different to those adjacent to the box. My code compares the current box's color to those to the left and top. If any of them matches, it picks another random number (as the color). For the tiles on the first row/column, I make my grid's array indexes with negative numbers -1 so that it will not match.
What I have:
private function fillArray():void {
grid = new Array();
grid[-1] = new Array(-1,-1,-1,-1,-1); //paddles the grid[-1][0 to 4] with -1
for (var i = 0; i < HEIGHT; i++) {

I'm very new to Flash, but I have been learning loads and getting some good results so far. Browsing these forums has been a massive help. However today I have hit a problem in what should be almost the simplest line of code I know how to write (variable = x), and could do with some advice. I have a simple program containing a button which will change a variable when pressed. There is also a text-box that will output that variable. However when I press the button, the variable will change, but then immediately revert to it's previous value.

I made a simple class that's keeping a history of strings, updating it with a push() method (like an array) and with a possibility to navigate with next() and previous().Therefore my class has an array and a integer indication the current position in the array. (See full code below)Now something very strange is going on. When coming into the push() method the position variable has some value, which I can change, but everytime I try to read that variable, it gives me a 0. I've never had this kind of problem before and I simply cant find out what's wrong.The push() method
ActionScript Code:
public function push(entry:String):void [code]......
I have a character on the stage in my fla that when hitting a particle created in an a particle.as removes the particle. I have the code for removing the particle and also a score counter that adds one everytime a particle is removed (located in my particle.as). My problem is the score keeps resetting or I get sporadic results (not sure which) for example here I traced the results[code]...
View 1 RepliesHow do you reset the scrollbar in Flash? (I'm using the component, not a cusom scrollbar.)If you go here, scroll ALL the way to the bottom and then click on "Donations" - you'll see the scrollbar stays in place.How do I get it to refresh each time new text is loaded? I've tried refreshPane() and a few other things, but nothing works.
View 7 RepliesHow do you reset combo-boxes?I have this form with combo-boxes and input textfields, and I want a button that can reset the form.The input textboxes are easy:TextBox1.text = "";
View 5 RepliesI've created a application where the viewer could change colours, add text, add logos, rotare them, etc... How do I create a reset button which resets everything to back normal in a specific FRAME? What functions do I have to use?
E.g.
Frame 5 is used to Add colours and text, etc...
Frame 10 is used to Add logos,scale them, rotate them, etc...
I need a reset button in Frame 5 to make only the things which were changed back to normal.
I am trying to move a movieclip down using Actionscript. Then when a user fires a back event [which is successfully firing] the movieclip is then required to go up again. The code is:
trace("fholder _y org: " + folioholdermc._y);
// THIS COMES OUT TO BE -601
var yDown1:Tween = new Tween(folioholdermc, "_y", Bounce.easeOut, -601, -449, 3, true);
trace("step 1 called");
trace("fholder _y down1: " + folioholdermc._y);

I'm making a simple platform game in Flash CS5 and Actionscript 3.0. When the player loses all their lives, I want it to redirect the player to a "Game over" screen where they can select a "Try again" button to restart the game.
Set everything (player, background, etc) to visible = false
Set "Game over" movie clip to visible = true (it is invisible during gameplay)
Have the button in the "Game over" movie clip hide the movie clip then re-show all the gameplay elements.Reset position of player to start, set score to 0, lives to 3, etc..It's probably not a very good way of doing this but if it works, then I'm happy. I just want the "Game over" screen to show briefly and if the player clicks the "try again" button, they can play from the start.
Now, the problem with my implementation of the above is that when I set all the gameplay elements to visible = true after having them set to false, the game has stopped.. keyboard input doesn't reactivate and the game elements are shown but aren't active. Is there something about the visible attribute I don't know? Does it mess with the "state" of an object? Here's some snippets of code from the Actionscript file...
if(lives >= 0) {
//print number of lives
}[code]..........
I've got 6 draggable movie clips that snap to a target - which works fine. If they don't hit the target area they snap back to their starting point- which also works fine.
My problem is that they can all be dragged to the target one after another, but I only want one movieclip to be at the target at any one time.
So,when I start dragging a new clip toward the target I want the movieclip thats already on the target to reset itself to it's starting position, thus being replaced by the incoming clip.
I want this to happen for all the draggable clips.
function dragSetup(clip, targ) {
clip.onPress = function() {
startDrag(this);
this.beingDragged=true;

I'm making a flash game. when i open the dresser drawer, then leave, then come back the drawer is closed.
how can i make it so when i come back the drawer is still open?
im creating this game. I have a main class, which I use to call the menu class and the actual game(board) class.
I got the game working, but now when I try to reset the instance of the board, it doesnt actually execute the constructor again. So I get a fresh board, but the variables aren't reset.
ActionScript Code:
public function Resetboard(event:Passboolean){
board = null;
board = new Board();
application.addChild(board);
}
I've created this simple birthday game where the concept is to blowout 30 candles in 15 seconds.The candles are movieclips so that when they are clicked on, they blowout. However,when the option to "try again" begins, the candles are still out.
View 9 RepliesJust to start off, this isn't exactly an inquiry to a problem. It is moreso of a posting of a bug (or assumed bug) in the Flash player and how to get around it. Though if anyone else has a better method then share. Ok, well I very rarely ever work with the Sound() object in Flash, and I found myself working with it today. I was having a problem and I could not pinpoint it for the life of me.... my code appeared correct in every aspect.
After tracing many sections of my code to find out where it was going wrong I realized... that for some reason when you use Sound.stop(), the Sound.position doesn't get reset... it instead just increments from where it left off. This is quite annoying. And being that Sound.position is a read only property you can't reset it yourself. The only solution I have found for this is to delete or overwrite your Sound() object with a new Sound() object. Anyone know if this is indeed a bug, or if there was some reason Macromedia did it like this?
I know there are similar questions here that have been answered, but after trying to make sense of it, I still can't get this to work.Based on an array, I attach a number of MovieClips from the Library.On release they go to a certain frame, representing the "pressed" state of the button.The problem is, that I can't figure out how to reset the last pressed button back to it's original state...Here is the Actionscript code I have so far:
ActionScript Code:
stop();
daCap.play();
scrollUp._visible = false;[code]......
I have a setup where a girl is holding a card on there are words on each card and as time goes by they fall to the ground. The problem I am running into is that the cards never go back into the loop of cards, once they are out I am just left with a blank card. How could I have it reset this?
