ActionScript 3.0 :: Copy A String Until The End Of The Line?

Here is what I have:

MY_POS = configString.substr(configString.lastIndexOf("USER_POS")+9,3);
Now, instead of only copying for 3 characters, I want to copy until the end of the line.
I have tried configString.indexOf("
") and "
" but this does not seem to work...
I have opened the file that I am reading in ScITe and viewed the end of lines. It has CR and LF characters at the end of the line, how do I detect this in AS3?

I have this information that is pulled in from a PHP database and displayed in a textfield within flash which works fine BUT when I go to copy and paste that text into another textfield (a note facility) it then means I can't make a line break. I've tried all sorts with the text field and can't see any reason why it wouldn't allow it. Is there something about different text formats that mucks it up?

I have swf that loads xml from a folder. I want to copy that XML string and hard code it into flash as an entire string. Then dim my xml object equal to that string. Is this possible? Reasoning is because I don't want people duplicating the swf and chaning the xml to create a whole new object. I don't want to have to manualy enter each question and answer and value into the arrays. That's to time consuming.
AS2 code to load the XML:

xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;

my XML looks somthing like this:

everything works fine, but the "" does not create a new line when loaded into flash. I'm not sure how to fix this problem, but if I try hard-coding the in my actionscript file it works fine.
PS I dont want to have to loop through the string and replace somthing with the "" in flash.

None of them create a new line in flex they are both rendered to the screen. How can I create a new line with a php string?

A web channel streaming service streams to a certain IP range, it only checks the IP in example.com/cmd.php?id=xxx (channel number) and outputs an rtmpe stream URL, nothing else.How do I trick it to get my local URL instead of the one on their server? I have considered squid proxy, but is there some way to do it with a firefox plugin or greasemonkey script?
Edit:I will try to specify:It's a streaming service from an ISP and cable provider. They stream for free to people on their IP's. On their webtv page, which is called webtv.example.com, there is a flash player. If you are not on an IP from their ISP, you can't stream anything but the test channel.When you try to change channel via. javescript:videoplayer_changechannel(xxx) it makes this HTTP request:

If you are on one of their IP's you will get an RTMP URL, like this:

This is what the flash player requests, and if it get's this response it load the channel requested. There is no HTML on the php page, just the URL. Note that the rtmp URL is static.If you are not on one of their IP's it will return a random sentence (something stupid, the programmers having fun).I wan't to trick the flash player into getting the right value, even though it's not on one of the ISP's IP's.

i am trying to splice a string between line breaks.
I have text called in using load vars and a text file. The text file called in has a few lines:
line one text
line two text
line three text
I would like to be able to splice that string so that i can create a string just using the second line of text.

I have copied some code from a tutorial only I seem to be getting problems with strings whenever I use newlines. Even putting:[code]Does this mean that in CS4 that newlines in strings are not allowed? I've also tried concatenating the string lines together using += but that didn't work and was tedious. Also, adding to the end or start of lines doesn't seem to work.

I have a scroller window in my Flash file which uses a Dynamic string variable fed by a text.html file containing my variable &about_readmore_txt2 After running some tests with the text.html file, I noticed that after a certain number of line breaks (either entered by a "RETURN" or a <br />) the final text rendered when the Flash is played becomes erratic. It only displays a portion of the text in the middle of the scrolling window.The tests have been run using both options : Rendered as html and not. My tests also shows that this behavior is line breaks related (I shrank the content of the variable down to a point where everything comes back to normal and then, if I add another line break, it starts behaving erraticly again

I am trying to implement simple chat application using flex. In it all my chat messages are stored as array collection items, where each item is a string (correspondent to one chat message). I am using datagrid to display all messages. One message goes to one cell of datagrid. Here how it looks: [URL] I want to add a feature for the tool to handle big lines of text. of course i could hardcode that - but if I then change something about the as file, the linenumbers won't be correct anymore, or maybe i rename the as file and so on. It'd be great to be able to create that string somehow using compiler directives. Is this Possible in an AIR application created with ActionScript 3.0?

I'm trying to work out how to create a simple demo that works as follows: A ball falls from the top of the stage.Player is able to draw a line anywhere on the stage. The ball will bounce/roll along the line such that the player can guide it at will. I don't think the coordinate rotation will be a problem for me but I can't figure out how to transform a line drawn by the player into a hit detectable sprite -- or realkly any way that I can get those line coordinates into my coordinate rotation routine. To keep it simple, I'm just working on the first part of the problem, getting the line to where I can hit test or know its position.Here is my code so far:

It always traces 0,0 instead of my current line coordinates - and even those I don't think would be sufficient.

in Flash CS4 I have static text like: Line1 and line2 It's in 9 point Arial Regular as a device font. If I set the line spacing below 3.9 the second line dissappears from the compiled SWF file. It still shows in the FLA file. The same thing happens at 6pt but NOT at 5pt or less.

I'm in the process of teaching myself the components of the CS4 Design Premium package using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. I'm currently going through the Flash CIAB and i've started using the pen tool. The task involves creating a wave like design across the stage. Whilst this in itself is simple, the final instruction is to click on the first anchor point to close the shape. In the illustration, the closed shape seems to automatically extend around the stage, however when I click on the first anchor point, the line automatically connects between the two points in a straight line.
Am I doing something wrong? The next step is to fill this area, but with the straight line effect that I am getting, this becomes impossible. I should point out that the instruction states that the pen tool line should extend off the stage. I have done this, but even then on clicking on the first anchor point the shape is closed incorrectly.

I am trying to dispatch an event but not sure when I should do it to get the right results. The first event "submitClicked" is in the right spot and works great. However, the second event "dataReady" seems like it might be a problem. I need it to be dispatched after this.compiledFormData is set.Does AS3 wait for each line of code in a function to be executed before moving on to the next line?

I am using Flex 4 and AS3 and I am trying to make it so that the user can draw a freehand line with the cursor - I have this part done.However, I also need the line to be a dashed line instead of one solid line like it is now. below is my code I am using. I have found some examples on how to do this, but they are all for straight lines, not for a freehand line.

When a Dynamic Multiple line text field is used in Flash CS3, it has a very annoying feature that auto inserts a line break at the end of inserted text. It also auto inserts a line break if no text is entered too.
I'm having a problem with this because the text is being saved from flash to a text file on the desktop. With every multi-line text field there's a nasty looking line break.
Any way of "turning off" this auto-line-break-at-the-end feature?

I need to replace multiple contiguous new line/line feed characters in flex with a single new line character.
Example:
The string
"My name is blah blah
My name is blah
"
Should be converted to
"My name is blah blah
My name is blah
"
Hope the example makes it easier to understand.
I am using a component to render it.
I guess using regex would be the easiest way to do this, but still it would be great if people can point me out to references/examples to get this done with ease.
I am using flex 4.5.

I am developing a white board application which allows the user to draw line with arrow head (some like Microsoft Word line with arrow feature). I am using graphics property along with lineTo() method to draw a line. Now i have to draw a angular arrow on the last point of line. I am drawing the arrow by connecting the points around last points. As 360 line can pass through this point and each line can have a different angle of arrow.
