Mar 8, 2009I was wondering, because people do suggest this, but i've never explicitly had it verified:does the flash cs4 compiler actually generate a SWF file, that is more optimized and faster, than the flash cs3 compiler?and what about other compilers? custom as3 compilers, are there faster ones?I don't mean the time it takes to compile the .fla, but the speed of the SWF file.

Jan 9, 2010The examples I'll use don't do anything - they're classes without ANY members - no variables, methods, anything.
Let's say I extends Sprite and call it MySprite.
I save it in test.core
[code]...
Now I create another custom class called MyWindow that extends MySprite.
I save it in test.windows
[code]...
Then I create another class that extends MyWindows (the example I'll use is a document class - but that doesn't matter - I've tested using an instance too).
[code]...
Notice that I'm not even trying to instantiate the helper classes - just having them there throws the error.
If there is only a single helper class, everything runs fine.
Also note that - as far as I can tell - this only happens when extending one class from another package, then extending that class with more than one helper object.I'm pretty sure there's no namespace bumps or typographical errors, as this is a very pared-down version of the original application.
EDIT: seems the problem exists even without the crossing packages - even extending MySprite in the document class with multiple internal classes generates this error.

Feb 3, 2012I am creating a library in AS3. Inside the library I make use of a bunch of classes/packages that need not be exposed to the end user of my lib. I want to only expose one of these classes.
I guess my questions are:
1) How are libraries commonly distributed in AS3?
2) Is there a .jar equivalent in AS3 that developers can include, but will only have access/knowledge of the classes I've declared as public?

Jun 2, 2011I working on a game project in Flash AS3. I need to pass data from one class (Game) to other class objects (Ships) on EnterFrame and performance is starting to be a issue. I was wondering is there a difference in performance between calling to the Ship a direct function or dispatching an event which the Ship can listen.
another question is where should I put the enterframe function. Is it better to use only one enterframe function and call the methods dispatch events from there, or it will be wiser to put the enterframe in the different objects (Ships)? note: some Ships are inactive most of the time.

Mar 20, 2012I am working on this cd-rom and have just reached testing stage for part 1 (of 5). There are lots of interactive activities, video and animations. For the activities, I dont know if I am just too tired but there seems to be items which are visible on my .swf on my computer that sometimes are visible and sometimes are not visible on the cd-rom, also in testing yesterday there sere some activities that seemed to not be working correctly (Althought they perform fine on the desktop version, on a reset of the cd-rom they then seemed to work. Is there anything that I need to take into account for the code being read off a CD to make it more bullet proof? I am stressing out a bit at the Unknown factor- I cannot continue to produce this resource if I cannot guarantee how it will perform in real life?
