Flash - Difference Between Video Object And FLVPlayback Component?
Feb 7, 2010What is the differences in use of these two objects? Which one should be used for a "Youtube-like" video player with a custom skin and playlist?

Feb 19, 2010I have developed a video player using Flash 8 Professional and the FLVPlayback component. Recently I have been testing a few 720p .mov files converted to FLV by FFMPEG running on an encoding server. I am noticing that these files do not play back in my video player. It appears that they do not have any audio attached to them but when I play them in Adobe Media Player the audio is there.
Is this due to the FLVPlayback component in Flash 8 not supporting HD videos? When I test locally the video picture plays with no sound but when I run in a browser the video freezes and does not play. The progress bar appears to move as if the video is playing however.

Apr 26, 2010I am wanting to play a number of movie clips and flash produced video clips. On the main timeline I have a frame for each clip I want to play. In that frame is a flash movie that contains the video that I have embedded onto the timeline for the movie. The filesize for this project is massive and I am struggling to work on the file. I want to be able to play the video files with the playback component in each of the frames where the video was.

Sep 7, 2010Is it possible when publishing a Flash CS4 file to have the Video swf and the Skin swf be in one swf file? I have a Flash CS4 (AS2) file that has a FLVPlayback Component. When I publish or test movie 2 swfs are output. I need only 1 swf as I am then going to insert this 1 swf into a Captivate 4 project. When I insert the video swf by itself into Captivate 4, I do not have a play bar/skin. If it is not possible to publish as one swf, how I can insert the 2 swfs into a Captivate file and get them to work?

Jul 27, 2011i'm trying to embed h264 mp4 video into website using flash cs3 professional.
when i select the source file it's looking for .flv files and not the mp4 file so the mp4's are greyed out.i read a great tutorial using a pc which shows the workaround for being able to see the mp4 files.url...I'm however using a mac and this method of putting an * in the file name box doesn't work on mac.

Nov 9, 2007I have made a short movie which I intend to loop on the web using Flash CS3. I found setting up the FLVplayback component really easy and currently have the .swf playing my external .flv perfectly. Now I need to figure out how to loop the movie - seamlessly if possible. I found this video tutorial, but it appears I can't add actionscript to the FLVplayback component in CS3, and the parameters bit doesn't seem to have a option for it. I heard elsewhere that the best way to seamlessly loop a movie in Flash is to embed the movie. Is this true? If so, how do I go about doing this?

Feb 8, 2010I've got a video I'd like people to be able to navigate away from in my project, but resume where it left off if they come back to it. I would think I could do this by just saving its current position when they exit that frame as a variable and then using .seek() to go back to that spot if/when they return.
The only problem is that I can't find any script to capture the current position. I tried .time, but it gives me an error.

Aug 2, 2006My Challenge is this...To feed up to 5 video references (filepaths) into the SWF which contains the FLVPlayBack component, and have these play in sequence automatically.
Once the first video ends, the next begins...Currently our FLV player takes 1 filepath passed by FlashVars and play it.
First things first... I just want to get the function of having one .flv file play after the first has finsihed... do I need some kind of listener?

Apr 27, 2010I have attached a video on a frame of my website in Flash. When I preview the movie the film plays as it should.But when I export the Fla. as a Swf. file it then doesn't have the movie there anymore?It does show this error:

I really don't know what that refers too.

ActionScript 3.0 :: FLVplayback: Make An Image/object Appear At A Certain Point In The Video?
Nov 26, 2009I'm trying to make an interactive quiz show type thing. The video shows someone reading the questions, then the answers appear as four clickable images after the question has been read. Then a user clicks on an answer it updates the score and moves to the next question.
Video has been imported and it plays perfectly. Movie controls (Play, pause etc) work fine as well. But since the video doesn't appear in the flash timeline (but in the external FLVplayback component) how can I get the images for the answers to appear on the screen at the right time? I have to use the FLV playback for a number of reasons so I have to find a solution to this problem within that context.
I put in navigation and event cue points in the flash video encoder first, the idea being to have the video pause at that point and make the buttons appear then, but I'm getting constant errors with everything I try.
(I believe you use event listeners to wait for the cue point and then use addChild to put in the video, vid.pause(); to pause it but I'm just getting tons of errors every time I try anything like that so clearly I don't know my syntax well enough)

Jan 11, 2010I have created a FLV video player using the AS3 flash.media.Video object (not the FLV playback component) and I am trying to listen for meta events and Cue Points embedded in the FLV video but I am not receiving any when I trace the movie. The cue points are not being created dynamically, they are in the FLV video.

Flash :: FLVPlayback Component Won't Seamlessly Loop
May 19, 2010Everything I've tried so far with a FLVPlayback component to seemlessly loop a progressively-downloaded 15 second video has failed. There's always a split-second pause when it's time to loop. For the scenario, embedding video in a flash project is not an option, and the split-second pause is unacceptable. I've tried setting autorewind to true and handling autorewind event fired by FLVplayback. I've tried watching the playhead of the flvplayer for when It gets upwards of 99.5 percent done and seeking to 0. My latest solution involves having two VideoPlayer instances with the same source behind the FLVPlayback component and toggling between them when it's time to loop, and there is still a seem between the end and beginning. I've tested the video in quicktime to make sure it's not an artifact of the video.

This player works perfectly everywhere else (even on an iframe Facebook application, where it's not inserted using the fb:swf tag, but with object, of course). Dec 31, 2009I'm using the same FLVPlayback component to play many page transition videos throughout a large flash site I'm building. On each transition, I'm setting the component's source using myFLVPlayback.source and listening for the fl.video.VideoEvent.READY event before proceeding with each page transition. This works fine as long as the transition between every pair of pages uses a different video.
Unfortunately, I'm running into a problem when the same page-to-page transition video needs to get invoked for two consecutive transitions. When playing the same video twice in a row, setting the source property of the component to the value it already has doesn't seem to do anything, meaning that my listeners for fl.video.VideoEvent.READY never fire. I could do something hackish like setting the source to a tiny, never-used-elsewhere FLV before setting it to the FLV that I'm actually using for the transition as a means of "resetting" the component, but I'd like to know what best practices are in a situation like this (insofar as best practices with something like the FLVPlaybackComponent can be discussed with a straight face).
I've perused the livedocs for the component but came up empty-handed, and manually using NetStream, NetConnection, and Video objects at this late stage isn't really an option.

Jul 16, 2009In order to play a FMS stream (live or on demand), either an FLVPlayback component or the Video class is needed.And they require ActionScript 3 and Flash 8 or above.
As far as i know , Youtube, Dailymotion and Google Video stream their on demand videos from a FMS, and their players are compatible with Flash 7.
How can they achieve this? If Youtube, Google and Dailymotion do that, i deduce it's possible..
I tried to create a Flash 7 application that plays a video coming from FMS, using a MediaDisplay component, but it doesn't work well. Sometimes it shows the video, sometimes not.So i don't think youtube player uses MediaDisplay..

Feb 28, 2011I've setup an FLVPlayback 2.5 component with no skin. Then I've added all the UI components and assigned them to the FLVPlayback instance. I'm using a PlayPauseButton, a SeekBar, a MuteButton, a VolumeBar and a FullScreenButton. All of the components had their graphics customized. Extra care was taken not to rename or delete any movieclips.
If I try the custom components by publishing the movie, everything works fine.The problem arises when I dynamically load this SWF into another one. The parent SWF loads the playback controls and instantiates everything and starts the video playerback.
What doesn't work is the SeekBar's and VolumeBar's Handle. It just doesn't appear. If I put a trace() in those MovieClips, they never appear on the console, as if they are never created.

The difference being that video display doesn't have the video controls.I know that stage video is new in AIR3 and uses hardware acceleration to play videos.My question is, does videodisplay and videoplayer take advantage of stage video out of the box?
