Flash :: Difference 'Music / Video Is Loading' Vs 'Music / Video Is Buffering'?
Dec 1, 2011
What is technical difference between buffering and loading ? Say, i have a video, which is showing loader bar in progress. Then what's happening exactly ? Buffering or Loading ?

I am trying to create an interactive music video in After Effects and Flash. The concept is that while the music video is taking place the user can decorate the hair of the woman with any of the objects they select. There will be predetermined animations and destination spots but the user can choose whatever objects they select to be delivered to the predetermined spot. I need to figure out how to let the user to select an object that will become part of the animation. I created a PDF Roughly explaining what I am trying to do. If anyone can help me I'd be very grateful as I am more versed in After Effects, I don't know ActionScript well enough to execute what I am trying to do.
Below is a rough example of what I am trying to do. There will be a music video of an animated woman singing. As she is singing the user will be able to click any of the objects , below the numbers 1-10. Below it is illustrated that the user wants to press the blue number 2. If the user presses the 2 the 2 will animate in the mouth of a bird to a predetermined pre-animated spot. I assume I need to send a movieclip to a blank holder on the timeline and use a gotoAndPlay() action ???

I want a site to have background music, but when I attach the music to the file it makes it quite large ...3 meg and the site is slow to load. Is there any way of having the music separate from the flash file and still have start stop music buttons?

I am a student and I use CS4 on a Mac on one of the schools computers. One of the animation projects I am working I need to animate a music video. To do this I calculated out the BPM of the song and set the frame rate at 23.3 FPS so that I would have 20 Frames between beats. Then to have a visual representation of the timing I set a layer that has a red dot blink for 2 frames every 20 frames starting on the first beat.
With it set up like this and I run the animation in Flash it keeps time correctly and works. However, when I test the video the time is off. I tried changing the frame rate to 60fps as an arbitrary number to see if adjusting the frame rate had any affect of the test file but when I tested the video at 60fps it did not run any faster than before. I exported the video to a SWF and MOV file but it was still off.

how to change this on my 'flash template' and how to successfully mute the background music as my VIDEO starts to play.
I have uploaded my FLA file so that you can see what the problem is:
[URL]
The background music is set as per TEMPLATE that I got. I would like to add a quicktime movie to the website, under the page titled "TRAILER" - and have tried to do so myself by adding the QUICKTIME to the project through another SWF that I got elsewhere (a different 'template' so to speak).
The original quicktime file that I wish to add is available here:
[URL]
I'd like to be able to stop the background music when the viewer visits the TRAILER page of the site, as that is when the trailer starts to play. The music can stop abruptly, that is fine.
I'd like for the music to continue to play (either from the start, or where it was stopped) when any other pages are visited after watching of the trailer.

Here I've a sound track included in timeline from first frame (not in actionscript).
And after intro, I've a video button where I added a video with sound which starts to play by clicking
Now the problem is both background music & video sound mixing & creates a noise kinda combination.
I need a solution like fading out the background music if i click the video button & fading in when clicking some other button or navigating to other pages?[code]...

I have a small problem I want to mute the music when a person clicks on the video page so they dont have to manually click the speaker to shut the sound off to hear the video. As well when they leave the page I want the music to continue playing. The music does not have to start over again, I just want it to mute while on the video page.
I tried using this: SoundMixer.soundTransform = new SoundTransform(0);
But it even mutes the video sound.
And I tried this: SoundMixer.stopAll();
It does kill off the background music, but I dont know how to turn on the music again when you leave the video page.
I prefer to use: SoundMixer.soundTransform = new SoundTransform(0); as it is easier to work with and you can adjust the volume as you like.
The music script and the video script
This is my action script for the music:
// Assign The URL to the mp3 to play
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("101-jakatta-

I have a flash file with a background music sound object, and I have a video player at a particular section on the timeline. When the playback head goes to the section with the video player, I would like the background music to fade, but of course, I need the volume to be up for the video. The code I have works find to fade the audio, but the problem is that the video's sound also turns off.
This is the code at the beginning of the timeline:
_global.volumeVar = 40; //Stores the current volume.
bgSound = new Sound(this); //This block works finebgSound.attachSound("music");bgSound.start(0,99);
bgSound.setVolume(0);
[Code] .....
Further down the time line, in the video player section, there this code, which works to fade the sound, but seems to turn off the video, too:
nInterval = setInterval(fadeOutSound, _global.volumeVar);

I made this music video, and now I'm trying to give is some UI controls. I have a play and replay button at the start and the end. But I want to have a pause/play button available to users all the time. I know how to do that for one object at a time, but I have around 80 layers. How do I make it so it will pause the whole video (including the music) without a billion lines of code?

As I understand it video over a connection of say 40Kb/s wont actually have time to load and make a buffer, and it'll be "glitchy", so it wont make much difference whatever buffering is put in place. I'm getting complaints about glitchy video. I don't have access to the servers serving the media so I put a load timer in a swf along the lines of averageLoadSpeed = (bytesLoaded / loadTimer.currentCount) / 1024;
Out of 5 tests run, 2 were below 50Kb/s. And I've been told the server also is not geared towards media and put priorities on other business tasks. The head of IT for this company keeps going at me about buffering, and how that'll fix the problem. I tried to explain that the speed is way too low (32Mb = 32768Kb / 24Kb/s = 1,365 seconds * 60 = 22min) enlighten me on buffering aside from wikipedia's explanation about IO streams.

I'm working on an animation where I have my "dog" fighting the evil vacuum cleaner. I got most of it to work the way I want it to.
1) I have movie clips entitled pepper_mc (where my dog is supposed to be walking), swirl (where a swirly-type symbol is supposed to spin over the dead vacuum's head), and vacuum_mc (where the evil vacuum is supposed to have a swinging arm (called vacuumarm_mc) that I created using the bone tool). When I add them to the stage and test them, the animations within the movie clips don't happen.
2) I have background music that I'd like to stop playing at the end of the animation, but I'm not sure how to do that. (using the stop(); actionscript doesn't help).Where am I going wrong? I'm using Flash Pro CS5.
Here's the file --> Pepper and the Vacuum of DOOM!

How do I use an if-statement that checks whether or not the music.swf, that needs to be loaded is found and when it is found, go to a frame?

my question today deals with Flash AS3 video buffering. (Streaming or Progressive) I want to be able to detect when the video is being buffered, so I can display some sort of animation letting the user know to wait just a little longer.
Currently my video will start up, hold on frame 1 for 3-4 secs then play. Kinda giving the impression that the video is paused or broken :(
Update
NetStatusEvent from livedocs. It seems to me that the key status to be working in is "NetStream.Buffer.Empty" so I added some code in there to see if this would trigger my animation or a trace statement. No luck yet, however when the Buffer is full it will trigger my code :/ Maybe my video is always somewhere between Buffer.Empty and Buffer.Full that's why it won't trigger any code when I test case for Buffer.Empty?
public function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void
{
// handles net status events

I understand that the spark framework has a video player and a video display. The difference being that video display doesn't have the video controls.I know that stage video is new in AIR3 and uses hardware acceleration to play videos.My question is, does videodisplay and videoplayer take advantage of stage video out of the box? Do I need to implement it another way?

I'm building a video player, and I'd like the play to show a "Loading, please wait"-type animation whenever the video is buffering and not playing. (This is either when the user enters the page and the video has to buffer a bit before it can start playing, or when the video suddenly stops midway because the internet connection can't load video fast enough.) Is there a way to detect when this happens and show the animation accordingly?

Using Macromedia Flash Professional 8.
I have a website banner made in Flash. I have added a music file to it and Play and Stop buttons. I also have a Replay button to replay the banner animation once it stops.
I have put the music on a separate frame so that it will not play automatically when the banner loads. I have made the Play button direct to the frame the music is located at so that when clicked, it will go to that frame and play the music file.
The problem I am currently having is that if I click the Play button more than once, it will play the music file again on top of the current play-through.
So if I click Play, the music will play. Then if I click it again, the music will play again, but on top of the first instance of the music, so two instances of it will now be playing and it sounds horrible.
I would like to make it so that if you click Play when the music is playing, it will not play the music again until the music has stopped.
