i have a project that describe map of world.i need to allow the user to drag the world and all the time he'll see just part of it on the current view (view port).what I'm doing is that i make startDrag() on the view port component and after that I'm reset the view port position to the middle center of the stage since the drag changing it's position.

I'm guessing more like a on/off, yes/no, true/false style of operation.I have found some examples in other languages, but nothing in AS3 or AS2. Could anyone send any sample code or a link to a tutorial that gives me some lead way on this? Which approach is better, going with a Flash projector piece, or building it in AIR? The final piece will be on a PC based system.

When I play, it starts and stops dragging nicely. But it will not advance the frame. If I try something else like getUrl, that works fine too. gotoandPlay does nothing as well, though. What am I missing? This is Flash MX2004, as2.
I creating a flash app that loads a RSS of a plublic map with a custom route path and draws lines from the coordinates on a Away3D Sphere.It works preety well when I'm testing locally, but when I publish online, the app can't load the RSS. I think Google Maps disable access from other domains.Does anyone knows another way to access this map RSS directly from google? Now to fix this, I'm hosting the RSS.
View 2 RepliesI recently posted a .swf inside a new window with javascript. everything works fine on a PC, the movie will load on a mac. You should be able to click and drag to "spin" the object within the movie (it cycles a series of photos to give a 360 view), but when on a mac the cursor changes but images are not cycling. i'm sure it could be a number of different things but I'm unsure where to start.
View 5 RepliesI'm about to have to write a web page/app that will serve the agenda for circa 100 people on a page. One line per person, one column per day with 3 clickable zones in each cell. In HTML, the page is way complex for the browser to load quick and there is no possibility to click on a border between 2 cells to for example split an event that spreads among several cells. So I search an not too overkilling technology to render this kind of view. I begun with a PHP generated HTML page but the number of elements in the page make the mouse move jerky.
Moving to JAVA would give me better performances regarding the reuse of the generator of the view but it will still be an HTML page. So, here is my question: do you think that going forward with JAVA and its graphical capability is the simple solution or is Flash a better option for this part of a Web App? I'm afraid of the code I'll have to write in JAVA to handle the GUI presentation as well as the events generated by the 1000's cells plus borders of the page. In Flash, the graphical part seems simpler even if the actions handling is still huge.
I'm currently using RobotLegs with the Presentation Model pattern to develop a Flex 4 project. I understand that all business logic related to a View resides in the Presentation Model associated with that view, however, I am confused when it comes to View specific logic.For example, I have an indicator that needs to be positioned relatively to list items depending on which list item is selected. Is it acceptable in the Presentation pattern to put the logic that will position the indicator in the View and simply have that logic run in reaction to a selectedIndex property changing in the presentation model?The reason I am considering this is that since the Presentation Model does not have a reference to the view it is difficult to come up with an ideal solution for manipulating view components.

I have one .mxml file (the Application) with a ViewStack (with 4 views) and a ControlBard, obviously I can change the views with it, but what I want to do is: in view #1 I have an image which I want to convert to a "hyperlink", so when I click it I go to View #2, is this doable? Also I would like to pass somehow some data (like a String) to that View #2 (lets say the it's a user avatar I click so I want to go to the second view which will show me his profile, that's why I need his name/id).

Basically you cannot move in the file to edit anything viewpoint wise, everything outside of the movie area is invisible and not there? As if cropped.

View 1 RepliesI don't need to deploy an HTTP server and all the connections are made on port 80, the default HTTP port, which is generally not blocked by firewall.Unfortunatly at the end of my work I realized that the flash socket component has some limitation on using port 80.[URL]As nobody is interested by this report, I now think that this limitation is done on purpose by Adobe. I don't know exactly why, may be to force to use their data service product.
I can understand that. But what I am hangry about is that nowhere in the documentation of the socket component there is an information about this limitation. I guess lot of people lost time trying to reach an unreachable goal ! And most of the time you find the problem at the end of the work because local connection is working ok on port 80.
On this page it says "The XMLSocket.connect method can connect only to TCP port numbers greater than or equal to 1024"This makes it hard to get a chatserver to work through a firewall.BUT I recently discovered on this page that you can set up "policies" for your flash movie that allow it to run on port 80.
View 1 RepliesI am new to the Flash Media Server and have a question on its use of ports. Now if a server has IIS and FMS and one wished only to stream flash (VOD). Could I edit the fms.ini file and remove port 80 from adaptor.hostport?
In my thinking I would stream over port 1935 and would lose the ability to progressive download over port 80.Now I do not ever want to use progressive downloading so no issue so far. In addition I can now run my IIS server on port 80 for my administartor console into FMS. All my clients are internal and thus I do not need a stream on port 80.
Is my thinking sound or am I misssing something?
Is there any such effort been made?

I have a socket server running as ROOT on an ubuntu machine on port 843 that sends:[URL]..On my home computer running the TestMovie operation, everything works. BUT, when browsing to the SWF, unless I check and answer policy requests on port 8010 nothing works.
SO, how does the master policy work? I expect that every call from xmlSocket.connect("mydomain.com", 8010) will query port 843 for a master policy. But, it appears that they don't, instead always sending a request to port 8010.
Also, on another note, for testing reasons is there an easy way to send ASII to a port in the same way as one would type into a terminal?
