ActionScript 3.0 :: Duplicate MovieClip Method - Making New Circle

Oct 27, 2009

I know AS3 doesn't have a duplicateMovieClip method anymore so how is this done? I tried the following with little success. Circle is a movieClip on the stage with instance name of circle. myEmptyClip is a movieClip in the library with the linkage set to myEmptyClip.

Code:
circle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, makeNewCircle);
circle.buttonMode = true;
function makeNewCircle(event:MouseEvent):void {
var newCircle:myEmptyClip = new myEmptyClip();
newCircle.x = 300;
newCircle.y = 100;
addChild(newCircle);
}

ActionScript 2.0 :: Duplicate Circle MC Random Number Of Times

May 2, 2004

I was taking this tutorial, >>LINK<< I want to change it from,
Code:
on (click) {

Duplicate Movie clip to,
Code:
onClipEvent (Load) {

That way once it load's it will duplicate the circle MC a random number of times. This circle MC is inside of another MC so it wouldnt be _root i want it to goto, it would be t_mc that I want it to look for it in.

So in the t_mc MC I put this code,
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
i = i + 1;
duplicateMovieClip (t_mc.circle, "circle" + i, i);
}

And on the circle, I put this code,
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
scale = (random(100) + 50)
this._x = random(250);
this._y = random(150);
[Code] .....

ActionScript 2.0 :: When Click The Letter Movieclip It Does Create The Duplicate As It Should And It Starts To Drag The Duplicate Mc

Mar 20, 2010

My problem is that when I click the letter movieclip it does create the duplicate as it should and it starts to drag the duplicate mc. However, when I release the clip it doesn't stop dragging? I realized that if I put onMouseUP event instead of onRelease it actually does stop dragging when I release the mouse. I would, however not like to use the onMouseUP event if possible.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making A Circle Larger, And Then Smaller

Jun 14, 2002

I want a circle to get large. No problem:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (_xscyle<200) {
_xscale+=10;
}
}

but now: when the circle has reached the desired size I want him to shrink back to e.g. 150

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (_xscyle>150) {
_xscale-=10;
}
}

I have problems because at a certain time both if-conditions would be fullfilled and nothing happens.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Making A Circle Countdown Timer Class?

Jul 29, 2009

I am making a circle countdown timer class. It works fine, however, the startAngle variable isn't really working the way I wanted it to. It seems to start at 45 degrees even though I have it set to 0. I want it to start at the top and work it way around like a clock. So it would start at 12 and end at 12. Here is my class

Code:
// Create an instance of the class in an empty FLA
import com.ronnieswietek.utils.CircleTimer;
var counter:CircleTimer = new CircleTimer(15,0xff0000,0x000000);

ActionScript 2.0 :: Motion Method - Take A Circle And Place It In The Center Of A Square Scene

Aug 15, 2003

-Take a circle and place it in the center of a square scene.

-Make a rectangle and snap its left edge to the circle's center.

-Make another rectangle and snap its left edge to the right edge of the first rectangle.

How would you make it so movement doesn't happen at the registration point but on the whole arm. Say i ran a rotation script on the upper arm with +=1 and the lower arm with +=2. How would you place the parts, what format would they be converted to and what would the script format be. Multiple methods would be welcome of course!

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making Rectangle Via LineTo Method?

Oct 16, 2004

I found out how to make for example a rectangle via the LineTo method. But how can I change the size of this rectangle and SEE it changing (ie a tween), not jumping from one format to the other? I guess it has to do with using "elapsing time" in the actionscript? I find it hard to get info on this subject. Though it seems important because otherwise it is impossible to create animations.

The beginClass function is fine, and only runs once, but eFrame is what checks if the player has hit the goal, so it is constantly running. The problem is, once the player hits the goal, eFrame continues to run, while in a menu describing the next scene to the player. My eFrame function is below.

I'm making a copy of a Sprite via the BitmapData Draw method. It kind of works other than the top portion of the bitmap gets cut off (replaced with transparent pixels). It looks like it's about the same height as the Sprite's y value.

looks like this:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Good Method For Making Movie Clip Follow A Curve?

May 1, 2006

I'm working on a game where you have a car that will drive along a side-scrolling terrain, and it needs to folllow the hills up and down and rotate accordingly. Because the front wheel and back wheel will need to be at different heights as the car moves, I'm wondering what the best way to make it rotate correctly is?

The height detection works, and the car will follow the hills but that's just using one point on the car movie clip to test with - it needs to use the front and back of the car.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calculate The Direction And Speed A Circle Has After Colliding With A Static (non-moving) Circle?

Mar 8, 2005

I'm developing a game atm, and I need some help on the mathematics/coding of colliding circles (and their change in x/y speed). What i need to know is how to calculate the direction and speed a circle has after colliding with a static (non-moving) circle. I know how to detect a collision between the two, but I'm not sure about the maths I need to give the circle the right speed and direction after the collision

If i do know how far away the two circle-points (in the middle of each) are to each other (in both x and y coords) would it be easy for me to find the new speed and direction of the large circle in the example above? I know that I somehow should use the angles to pretend the circle hits a flat "wall" (as it only hits one point), and then calculate the new speed/direction. My only problem is that I'm not sure how to decide the angle of this flat "wall" and how x and y speeds should change when colliding with a wall that is angled. Does anyone here have any insight, links or tips on how I can du this?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Circle Circle Frame Independant Collision Reaction?

Apr 10, 2010

Trying to do circle circle collisions via math which I'm really having trouble with. One circle (player) just moves from keyboard. The ball reacts to the player. All the code shown is in my players class and I passed in a reference to the ball.

On my enterframe I have:

Code:
var xmov1 = xSpeed;
var ymov1 = ySpeed;
var xmov2 = ballRef.xSpeed;
var ymov2 = ballRef.ySpeed;

[code]....

Perhaps I'll go with a box2d equivalent instead of trying out my own physics shenanigans.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Move Movieclip Around A Circle Using Point And Click?

May 5, 2011

It's the beginning of a Monkey Island / Grisworld The Goblin kind of ultra short and simple game. Actually this is the only think I have to figure out.

Actually it already works if you click the x where it's positioned on the screenshot, but it doesn't work other places. And yes I've tried everything, and I'm just nok smart enough to figure this out.

More precisely it's the alternative path, after the arrow collides with the circle, that's causing me problems - since it's going to find it's way to the point clicked on stage.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Duplicate A MovieClip?

Mar 25, 2009

I was looking at a video tutorial, and in order to reference a MovieClip, the instructor used:

var mc:MovieClip = MovieClip(e.currentTarget);

What is the difference between using that, and just using:

var mc:MovieClip = e.currentTarget;

Also, is there any way to easily duplicate a MovieClip? (or any class for that matter) There was a function somewhere back there, but that created a dynamic class. I want an exact replica of the class and all it's properties without manually changing over each and every value.
