I've been trying to change text in a textfield on a scrollpane dynamically without embedding fonts. However, the text doesn't show up at all. I tried using device fonts but still nothing.
View 1 RepliesI am having trouble embedding a font in my Flash file. I have the font in my library. I have the text field selected to that font with the * next to it. In my actions I have: vid_title_txt.embedFonts = true;
If I set it to false instead, it shows a different font. But if it is set to true, nothing shows.

is there any way to smoothen or make a dynamic textfield look better without embedding fonts? I've tried writing the textfield into a bitmap but haven't been successful with that yet, is there any other better approach?

I am making a Flash movie where a user can change the font of a text field(AS3), and due to the embedded fonts functionality even fonts that ar not on the users computer can be selected.The problem is that I can embed only one font per text field. This should be no issue because they are embedded in the example text and are included in the library. But this does not work!It does not matter whether I use the font name or the name of the font in the library with trailing '*', it simply shows _serifThis problem drives me cray because it disables the main feature of the application.
View 3 RepliesI have been trying to embed a font into a project I am working and its just not happening. I am having 2 problems first I am trying to embed a font that I do not have installed on my machine (Helvetica Neue Bold), I do have a copy of the otf file though. As far as I know what I have tried should work however when I run the swf I only get Times New Roman. From the enumerated fonts I can see the font has embedded but it just wont show. Secondly if I replace the Helvetia font with one I do have on my machine (Arial for example) the text displays with the correct font but if I then set embedFonts = true the text disappears.

View 1 RepliesI create some text, make it dynamic, load an XML file into it, and it works just fine.However, when I copy and paste the code into the web site that I'm using it for, it ONLY works if the font is set to Gill Sans Std(the font that the site uses). Otherwise, no text appears but the area where it SHOULD appear becomes selectable.I know this isn't a very good description of my problem, but I'm working with someone else's code and it's some of the worst I've ever seen.Can anyone think of why this might be happening? Also, when I try to add HTML tags, they don't work and the text effected by the tags disappears. View 2 RepliesI have a dynamic text field which is loading images from an external html. This text is named scrollPaneImage and is a child of a movieClip called scrollPaneContent. I then load scrollPaneContent into a scroll pane named scrollPane
When the user interacts with my swf different images are loaded into scrollPaneImage. Since some of the images take a few seconds to load, I'd like there to be a progress loader displayed in the scrollpane.
I have tried adding the progress event listner to the dynamic text, the movie clip and the scrollpane and cannot get it to respond or track the loading.

I've recently had to format my computer and now having a problem with the flash actionscript window: the actionscript text looks like bold, or in a different font. The problem is that when I search for something like "flash" and "fonts", no matter which other words I use, always comes a lot of things about fonts for flash files, or for flash embedding fonts, but never for the program itself. Wich font is missing in my system that flash CS3 needs?

create superscipt number, or to hack it in dynamic text fields? I'm using XML along w/ a number of CSS styles and I can't find a way to achieve this. One option would be a nice small pixel font thats designed to looked like superscript numerals.

I am trying to create a text box with actionscript, using an embedded font, and populating it with HTML text. It seems I can either use an embedded font, or HTML formatted text, but not both. To illustrate the problem, I have created a little test.
1. Create a font symbol in the library. Export it for actionscript as "_mainFont".
2. Create a dynamic text box on the stage using _mainFont and type some random text in it, including the use of bold and italics. Set the font size and colour to whatever you like. Name the instance "templateText".
3. On the first frame, type in these actions:

The textbox should display correctly, using the correct font, colour and all the HTML formatting. Unfortunately, I need to create text on the fly. So modify the actionscript to create a new text field instead of using the template text:

What happens? I get the right font. The < font color > tag works OK, I get the breaks and the underline, but I get no bold and no italics. Finally, let's make some use of the templateText box by using its formatting. Replace the line:

Now the text is formatted with the right font, the same colour and size of the templateText box, but I've lost the HTML font colour and underline in addition to the bold and italics.If I take out the Embed Fonts, I get back bold and italics, but loose font colour and underline, as well as the wrong font.
embed 20 fonts into a movie. Upon the user typing a word in an input text field AND checking a box or radio button indicating a font style, could Flash generate the input text to an output field with the font choice in the next frame?

It's no where on my hd and I don't know the first thing about making fonts so that is out of the question.I've been searching for a couple of hours now and it seems the tried and true solution is to embed multiple versions of the font off the stage.Ridiculous. Right? In either case, I am pleading to all you Flash Jedi out there to please tell me there is another way? I refuse to turn to the dark side.
View 3 RepliesI've been working on this all day. All I need is the font to be able to be both bold and regular in one string. However, while the string is being written on screen once it hits the bold tag (I have the string writing into a htmlText textarea) everything becomes bold. I can't seem how to figure out how to get it both bold and regular. Ive tired embedding via AS and from the stage using dynamic text. Nothing has worked.

I have a static textfield using Myriad Pro bold font that, when set to STATIC TEXT works absolutely fine, in the correct font. If I set it to DYNAMIC TEXT and test the SWF, the text shows up as a system font; not Myriad Pro If I set it to EMBED CHARACTERS the text doesn't show up at all on ANY system, whether the font is installed or not.
I have tried adding the font to the Library and using that "Family" for Properties>Character in my dynamic text box, but get the same results as when I don't set that to EMBED CHARACTGERS. I've tried selecting the font for the textfield as both the standard OS Font, as well as the one with the Asterisk next to it, but get the same results both ways. The library font is set to "export for actionscript" and "on frame 1". I don't think it's an issue with the font not being available, as I'm able to see it when setting textfield to STATIC type, and I use the font in other CS4 products (Photoshop, etc.).
I have a couple questions about dynamic text fields. Is it possible to embed multiple fonts? Are color and font size dynamic? Is there a way to make scalable text? Is there a way to make a the contents of a dynamic text field a link to whatever URL might be typed into it?

on stage, there is a dynamic text field with no text. i've embedded both regular and bold versions of Myraid Pro. the text field on stage is set to regular (have to choose something). "Render Text As HTML" is selected.
the following code in my document class doesn't work:
myText.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER;
myText.htmlText = "Not Bold <b>Bold</b>";
the html tags only work if the text field on stage is set to "use device fonts" in the anti-alias setting.
I have an xml-based mp3 player which loads the track titles into dynamic text fields from an external .xml file and I can't get the text to bold. I have "use device fonts" checked. If I select the text field in Flash and change the color or size those attributes will change in the published version, but... when I click the B button, it won't render the text bold in the published version.Do I have to add additional font formatting in the actual ActionScript? View 5 RepliesI have a dynamic text field with the text "IMAGES". The font is Arial, it has BOLD and ITALIC checked, and has basic Latin fonts embedded. Now, I use Actionscript to change the text:
textField.text = "IMAGES";
Suddenly the text disappears! Now, it seems to me that since BOLD and ITALIC are checked on the text field, changing the .text value should simply change the text itself, which should then be rendered in bold and italic, and since I have bold+italic Latin glyphs embedded, it should display properly. But what's clearly happening is that when I set the text using Actionscript, it is attempting to display the NORMAL font instead, and since it's not embedded, it won't display. I know this because if I create another proxy text field off the screen and embed the NORMAL Arial glyphs, the original text field's text will display just fine - as normal-weight text.
But why is this? Do I have to use a TextFormat object to set the text to Bold and Italic EVERY time I want to dynamicaly change the text? This seems silly. I simply want my text field to be bold and italic every time the text changes, and NO normal text!
